Chapter 297: Chapter 297: Your Bonus Is Gone

Faye Xavier was laughing so hard she nearly doubled over when Shane Warner turned around and coldly said, "Your bonus is gone."

Faye’s laughter froze, and the tears at the corners of her eyes hadn’t even dried. She immediately adopted a woeful expression and pleaded with Shane Warner, "Master Shane, you can’t punish the innocent. Those words came from your wife; they have nothing to do with me. I’ve got a list of over a hundred wayward girls depending on me, so the bonus can’t be cut, Master Shane."

"Even with your whole bonus, you still got a great deal compared to all the tears from my wife."

"Master Shane, can I pay with tears instead? Is it okay if I cry right now?"

"Get lost."

"Master Shane, Luc was involved in this too. Can we each get half of our bonus docked?"

Shane Warner paused for a moment. Faye thought there might be hope, but was caught off guard when Shane said, "Dock both your bonuses, and let him know."

Faye: "..."

Following Shane Warner’s instructions, Morgan Quinn directly took Audrey Sutton to the hospital.

Perhaps it was due to excessive fright, but Audrey fainted in the car. Morgan thought she was just sleeping and only realized she must have been unconscious when she didn’t wake up as he got out.

Afraid Shane might blame him if something really happened to Audrey, Morgan hurriedly got medical personnel to help put her on a stretcher and rush her into the hospital.

When Shane Warner and Faye Xavier arrived, it was already half an hour later.

Audrey had woken up but wasn’t in great spirits; she was hooked up to an IV, her face somewhat pale.

When she saw Shane Warner enter the hospital room, her previously dull eyes immediately lit up. She tried to move to sit up in bed but found her limbs weak.

"...Is everything taken care of?" Her worried demeanor made it clear she had been anxious about Shane all along.

Shane temporarily put aside the issue of her wanting a share of his inheritance.

He walked to the bedside, sat down, and helped her sit up against him, not answering her question but softly asking, "Feeling better?"

"A bit thirsty."

Shane glanced around the bedside but didn’t see any water cups, so he instructed Faye, "Go get a cup of hot water."

"Right away, Master Shane!" Faye put on her best behavior, hoping to salvage her bonus.

Audrey looked down at Shane’s abdomen, then up at him and asked, "Did you get your wound treated?"

Shane had changed clothes with no visible injuries, mainly because he wasn’t actually hurt.

"I’m fine."

Audrey obviously didn’t believe him; no matter how good he was in a fight, it’s impossible he wouldn’t have gotten even slightly hurt. With so much blood on his clothes at the time, she suspected he was hiding it from her to keep her from worrying.

Despite the IV needle in her hand, she reached to pull up Shane’s shirt, tucked tight under his belt.

Shane chuckled lightly but didn’t stop her; he simply held her arm still to keep her hand from moving around too much.

Audrey wasn’t very adept with one hand, so Shane used his free hand to help untuck his shirt.

She immediately pushed his shirt up, inspecting his abdomen, finding it intact without wounds.

Still not relieved, she continued to pull his shirt higher, raising it nearly to his collar, making their actions a bit indecent.

Shane laughed lightly and teased, "Honey, can we save the undressing for when we get home?"

Just then, Faye returned with a cup of water, pausing at the doorway, unsure if she should step in.

Seeing Shane nod at him to come in, Faye walked into the room with a cheerful grin.

Audrey, hearing the footsteps, turned to see Faye entering and glanced down at how she’d just exposed Shane’s upper body, feeling slightly embarrassed.

"The water’s here; it’s a bit hot, so I’ll leave it to cool for a bit."

Shane nodded and pointed toward the door with his chin, signaling for Faye to leave.

Audrey didn’t dare to look at whether Faye had a weird expression, slowly lowering her hand, and asked Shane, "What about the back?"

Shane stood up, took off his suit jacket, and turned his back to her, allowing her to inspect.

Audrey sitting by the bed lifted his shirt to check his back, finally breathing a sigh of relief when everything was fine.

However, with all that blood at the time, regardless of whose, it meant someone got hurt.

"So... how did you handle things?" She worried he might act rashly in anger and cause real trouble.

Shane slowly tidied his rumpled clothes, his voice and actions unhurried: "Gave them a light lesson."

"Did it cause any issues?"

"I told you I have discretion. Don’t you trust your husband? I wouldn’t want to get into trouble, go to jail, and have such a beautiful wife run off with someone else."

Audrey shot him a glare and asked, "Who were they, anyway? Why did they kidnap me?"

Throughout the ordeal, they hadn’t harmed her nor demanded ransom from Shane, so what were the kidnappers after?

Shane didn’t want to reveal the truth to Audrey just yet, worried she’d turn her current feelings of shared adversity into resentment if she discovered he and Faye were behind the ruse.

So he brushed it off, saying, "I had Faye look into it. You don’t need to worry about this."

"I think we should call the police and have them caught. Otherwise, I’ll be scared to go out in the future. They grabbed me right off the main street, you know!" she recounted the details, still shaken and frightened, truly spooked by the incident. If it left her with psychological trauma, he’d have to have a word with Faye.

Faye had played tricks on April Fool’s Day before, but it was just silly things like gluing doorknobs or sending him flirty messages from a woman’s phone; or even putting his number on a reward poster for sperm donation... 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

No one expected Faye to be so heartless this time, targeting Audrey Sutton.

Seeing Shane’s reluctance to report it to the police, Audrey tentatively asked, "Is there some background involved? Is it difficult to handle?"

Shane laughed softly, "Seems you still don’t know your husband well. Who could have more clout than your husband?"

Audrey rolled her eyes, feeling that while it was a serious matter needing urgent resolution, he appeared utterly nonchalant.

She suspected this incident might have connections to Clarissa Morgan. Considering Shane’s lack of concern, she wondered if he’d already found out and chose not to pursue it further out of regard for Clarissa.

Shane lifted a hand, twirling a strand of her hair, and asked, "Hungry? What do you feel like eating? I’ll have Faye go get it."

Audrey turned her head away from his hand, answering sullenly, "Not hungry."

"The kidnappers gave you something to eat? You haven’t had lunch, and I’m starving."

Audrey didn’t respond. She stretched out her arm to reach for the cup of water Faye had left on the bedside earlier and took a sip.
