Chapter 285: Chapter 285: I’m Done Digging!

Maybe it was Audrey Sutton’s smile that was contagious, Shane Warner’s lips curled up slightly as he asked her softly, "Do you like it?"

Audrey Sutton nodded heavily, "I love it!"

He spent an entire afternoon, personally making a swing for her. It was something she hadn’t anticipated and didn’t even dare to hope for.

As the swing moved up and down, her laughter changed each time, and the way she laughed was especially captivating.

Seeing her pure smile, Shane Warner felt that the afternoon’s hard work was all worth it.

After the swing stopped, she stayed seated, refusing to get off, turned and looked up at Shane Warner standing behind her, smiling as she stared at him.

Shane Warner felt a bit awkward being stared at, so he pretended to be calm and asked her, "What’s up?"

"I noticed you’ve changed," she said.

"Oh?"

"You’ve become more romantic than before."

Audrey Sutton turned halfway on the swing, facing him, released her grip on the chains, and instead held onto Shane Warner’s hand. She wrapped her legs around his calves playfully with a hint of flirtatiousness, smiling as she asked him, "You’ve fallen for me."

He just looked down and smiled at her, letting her hold his hand and nudging his pants with her toes, pampering indulgently but not giving her the answer she wanted.

Audrey Sutton continued, "For someone so afraid of trouble, spending an afternoon making a swing to cheer me up, it has to be because you like me!"

Shane Warner laughed and said, "Can’t it be because I had nothing else to do?"

"No." She stubbornly refuted his words, hooking her finger onto his T-shirt collar and pulling him down.

Shane Warner cooperatively leaned down.

She looked at him with a smile, like a spoiled little princess, kicked his calf with her little feet, and said, "Hurry up, say you like me."

"Is it really that important to say it?"

"It’s very important! I want to hear you say it!"

Shane Warner grabbed her little foot that was mischievously moving up his calf, and deliberately said sternly, "Audrey Sutton, you’re getting naughtier."

Obviously unhappy with him always brushing her off, she furrowed her brows stubbornly, "Hurry up and say it!"

Shane Warner tickled her foot, "Does forcing me to say it mean anything?"

Afraid of tickles, she retracted her foot, "Alright, then tell me, if you don’t like me, why make me a swing? Are you really just bored?"

Shane Warner’s smile deepened, "Seeing the little miner working so hard, I have to toss out some encouragement stones, don’t I?"

Audrey Sutton kicked him away, let go of his collar, pushed him aside, stood up from the swing, looked at him through it and said, "Fine! Sleep with your pride then! Useless jewels! I’m done digging!"

After saying that, she left her slippers behind and stomped inside the house barefoot.

The General, who had been grazing nearby, seemed unaware of the situation, looked at Shane Warner, then at Audrey Sutton, and decided to follow her into the house.

Shane Warner stared at the empty swing in the sunset, feeling that not only did this girl become bolder, her temper grew quickly too.

Audrey Sutton ran inside the house.

Though not really mad, she was indeed a bit annoyed. Saying "I like you" shouldn’t be that hard, right?

She locked herself in the room, waiting for Shane Warner to coax her.

She just watched the clock tick by, minute by minute, without any sign of him.

Really patient!

Audrey Sutton stood by the door, ear pressed against it, intently listening for sounds outside.

Unfortunately, the door’s soundproofing was too good, she couldn’t hear anything.

As the sky outside darkened, she felt hungry but didn’t know if Shane Warner was downstairs, and was too proud to go downstairs for food.

He really isn’t going to coax her?

Does he think she’s just fooling with him? Or maybe based on past experiences, he figures she doesn’t need comforting, and she’d soon self-recover, so he didn’t plan to come at all?

The more she thought about it, the more stifled she felt. Audrey Sutton believed she spoiled him too much before, which made him think she’s easy to bully!

If he doesn’t come upstairs, she won’t eat!

She’ll... she’ll just die for him to see!

Lock herself in the room, starve to death! Hang herself! Cut her wrists! Jump off a building!

She paced the room uneasily until she finally heard footsteps outside.

Originally wanting to listen by the door, she remembered she purposely left the door unlocked, afraid Shane Warner would catch her pathetically eavesdropping, so she turned and lay on the bed, wrapping herself in a blanket.

Kept thinking about her grievances, desperately squeezing out a few tears.

Finally, she heard the door open.

For once she felt it was nice he didn’t have a habit of knocking.

Audrey Sutton buried herself under the blanket, hearing footsteps approaching the bed.

"Isn’t it hot covering yourself without air conditioning?" His voice echoed as he lifted the blanket.

Audrey Sutton had managed her expression, crying convincingly.

Seeing the tears on her face, Shane Warner realized things were more serious than he thought.

He sat by the bed, took a tissue box from the side, pulled out two tissues, and while wiping her face said, "Swing made your head mushy? Crying over this?"

Audrey Sutton now realized, the deaths she imagined wouldn’t occur, she’d more likely just be directly angered to death by him.

She found her tears quite obedient, having been wiped away, yet more flowed out.

Shane Warner brushed aside her bangs, wiped sweat off her forehead, his tone not particularly tender, sounding as if coaxing but more like scolding a sulking child, "Stop crying, get up and eat." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Audrey Sutton felt she’d fully committed to her act, couldn’t just let it go with his small concession, she sniffled, swatted away his hand wiping her sweat, turned facing away from him, and pulled the blanket higher.

Shane Warner initially thought she was just acting, but didn’t expect her to really do so.

Earlier she was as happy as an angel, now turned into a little demon that left him quite at a loss.

Shane Warner picked up the air conditioner remote and turned on the room’s air, not pulling her blanket, just patiently sat by the bed coaxing her, "Get up first, what do you want to hear? I’ll say it now."

"Don’t want to!" Her muffled voice came from under the blanket.

Shane Warner felt exasperated, annoying her was easy for him, but he wasn’t skilled at coaxing girls.

Suddenly he recalled once overhearing Faye Xavier on the phone comforting a girl, so Shane Warner mimicked and said to Audrey Sutton, "Little darling, I was wrong, get up and eat first, okay?"
