Chapter 282: Chapter 282: Habits Become Tacit Understanding

After having breakfast at the hotel in the morning, Shane called the driver to pick them up and take them home.

It happened to be Sunday, so he didn’t have much going on at work, and she didn’t have any classes.

The weather was nice too, so she grabbed some gardening tools and headed to the little garden outside to take care of the flowers and plants she had planted.

General and Pea followed her to the garden and played chasing butterflies on the grass.

After Shane finished his workout and took a quick shower, he came downstairs and saw Audrey Sutton bending over, trimming the branches of the flowers.

She was wearing her light purple, palace-style nightgown, and her hair was casually tied at the back with a rubber band, a strand of loose hair fell by her ear, obscuring her face.

The sleeves of the nightgown were originally long and ballooned, but for convenience, she had rolled them up high on her arms.

The morning sunlight was golden and exceptionally soft, lighting up her body, her skin was so radiant it seemed to glow, yet faintly visible was the bruise he accidentally left on her arm last night.

"Need help?" Shane approached her from behind and asked.

Audrey Sutton didn’t even hear his footsteps, and only realized he was there after he spoke, she looked up at him and pointed at the watering can nearby, saying, "Help me water the flowers then."

Shane glanced at the watering can and then at the full garden of flowers and plants. The watering can was only about seven or eight liters, while the garden was neither big nor small, but at least fifty or sixty square meters. How long would it take to water everything can by can?

"Do all these need watering?"

"Of course, what else? It’s not like I’d water some and skip others. They’re all mine; how could I be so biased?"

"Have you always watered them like this?"

"What else could I do?"

She answered him as she picked up the scissors and continued to carefully trim the flower branches.

Shane didn’t pick up the watering can but instead said, "You keep trimming, I’m going out to buy something."

Watching him turn and walk away, Audrey Sutton called after him, "You’re so lazy! Making excuses to avoid watering flowers!"

But she hadn’t really expected him to help, as he had almost never tended the garden from the time she planted the flowers until now.

Of course, she hadn’t managed it all by herself either; when the flowers were newly planted and still delicate, she had invited experienced family gardeners to help take care of them.

Now, the flowers had mostly settled in the soil, making it easier to manage them.

About ten minutes passed without Shane returning, leaving her to wonder where he ran off to.

When Audrey Sutton went inside to get a drink of water, she looked around the house and confirmed he had gone out.

She was still muttering to herself, was it really such trouble to water the flowers? Was there really a need to find an excuse to go out?

Audrey Sutton returned to the garden to trim the remaining flower branches. General and Pea, tired from playing, lounged lazily on the grass, wagging their tails in the sun.

Suddenly, General jumped up and ran in a certain direction.

Audrey Sutton then heard the sound of a car from the parking area, and indeed, General ran straight toward the parking area.

Guessing that Shane was back, Audrey Sutton put down the scissors and followed to take a look.

When she reached the parking area, she saw Shane standing by the car’s trunk, bending over to take something out.

"What did you go out to buy?" she asked as Shane removed some different materials for water pipes and some metal tools from the trunk.

Seeing her approach, he handed the pipe materials to her, "Take these to the garden."

Not knowing what he planned to do, and not entirely happy with his giving her orders, she nonetheless accepted the pipe materials from his hands.

He shut the trunk and walked into the house. Audrey Sutton stood there puzzled for a couple of seconds before returning to the garden.

When she got back to the garden, Shane came out holding a toolbox and waved at her, "Bring them over."

Audrey Sutton walked over, wanting to ask him what he was up to, but saw he was already using pliers to twist the faucet of the seldom-used outdoor sink, using a measuring tape to mark against the wall and compare with the pipe, looking rather professional.

Only then did Audrey Sutton realize he was probably going to renovate the faucet so they could use hoses to water the flowers directly, instead of carrying cans back and forth.

Upon realizing that, Audrey Sutton’s little bit of resentment toward him dissipated. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

She was also surprised he had such skills, and his operations were quite proficient, indicating he had previous experience in this area.

Audrey Sutton stood by, clueless about this kind of work, unable to assist, but couldn’t help watching his ongoing charm.

In about ten minutes, the faucet was successfully renovated. He went inside, turned on the water valve, grabbed a long hose, and walked over to the trimmed bushes, saying, "Isn’t this much more convenient?"

Audrey Sutton smiled but grumbled, "Why didn’t you think of this sooner? Making me carry water can by can."

"I didn’t expect you to be so silly, not coming up with this idea yourself."

Audrey Sutton "hmphed," reached out to grab the hose from his hand, "I’ll water, and you’ll cook lunch today."

"Didn’t Grandpa say you liked swinging on swings as a child?"

"Huh?" She was caught off guard, furrowing her brow, "Don’t change the subject, go hurry and cook!"

Then she mumbled, "Why would Grandpa tell you about that?"

Shane chuckled, "Grandpa also said you wet the bed in kindergarten until you were four."

"Not me!" She denied vehemently, but her blush gave away the truth.

Shane didn’t tease her further, and he picked the weeds stuck to her hem and asked, "What do you want to eat?"

Audrey Sutton: "As long as there’s meat."

"Being so chubby, yet eating meat every day." He muttered, complaining about her, as he walked into the house.

Audrey Sutton looked down at her figure, where was she fat?

She admitted she weighed double digits when she married him, but now she was barely over a hundred, wasn’t she?

Despite his words, when Audrey Sutton finished tending the garden and went inside, the table was already set with braised pork belly she loved.

To be precise, she loved how he cooked the pork belly, which tasted delicious without being greasy, but since it was fatty meat, the gym-going him rarely chose to make this dish.

The presence of pork belly in the fridge was something that only started after she married him.

She felt she had indeed brought many changes to his lifestyle; if they truly didn’t have the fate to make it to the end together, he should remember her often.

Of course, what Audrey Sutton wanted most was for them to continue their journey together, turning each other’s habits into a sort of tacit mutual understanding.
