Chapter 259: Chapter 259: I’m Your Girlfriend

Looking at Shane’s empty wine glass, Faye Xavier picked up the bottle and poured him more wine while asking, "Did you have a fight with your wife again?"

"What fight?"

Faye Xavier looked puzzled, "If you didn’t fight, why did you hang up on her?"

Shane: "I hung up?"

Faye Xavier rolled her eyes, "Okay, okay, I hung up, I hung up. Poor girl must be really unlucky to have married you."

Shane glared at Faye Xavier, and Faye Xavier sheepishly walked away with her wine glass in hand, "I’m off to flirt, not playing with you, you despicable man."

Inside the villa.

Audrey Sutton looked at the disconnected call, her heart growing heavy.

She felt she hadn’t done anything wrong. Why did it seem like she had offended everyone suddenly?

Why is he always like this? Can’t he just talk to me directly if there’s something up? Does he have to be all hot and cold, making me guess?

She spent the whole night lost in her intrusive thoughts.

Chewing on her pen, she lay on the table, staring at the screen of her phone, which remained dark.

She tapped the screen to check the time, it was eleven o’clock.

Why hasn’t he come back yet?

Audrey Sutton dialed his number again.

"Beep... beep..."

The only sound on the phone was the mechanical "beep," continuing until the call was automatically disconnected...

Audrey Sutton felt a twinge in her nose, her eyes moistening.

"Vroom vroom—"

A distant engine sound came from outside, and Audrey Sutton immediately put down her pen, quickly looking for her slippers next to the chair, and rushed downstairs.

After descending the stairs, Shane was already inside, under the lit entryway, changing his shoes with his head down.

"...You’re back, huh." After a while, Audrey Sutton finally managed to squeeze out a sentence.

The hurried steps downstairs now felt a bit impossible to continue.

Shane finished changing his shoes, tossed the car keys on the cabinet, glanced at her, and asked coolly, "Still awake?"

Audrey Sutton lowered her brows, "You weren’t back."

"When I’m at home, you lock yourself in your room and play on your own, don’t you?"

"That’s different." Audrey Sutton felt like he was somehow blaming her. "I feel like you’re hiding something from me."

Shane didn’t reply, changed his shoes, and walked into the house, picked up his cup from the coffee table, and poured himself a drink.

Audrey Sutton leaned closer, questioning him, "Did I upset you or did someone else?"

After Shane casually sat on the couch, he lazily responded, "What do you think?"

Audrey Sutton sat beside him, "How would I know? I’m not a worm in your gut, how would I know what you’re thinking?"

"If you don’t know, then forget it."

"That means you still don’t understand me enough."

Audrey Sutton charmingly tugged at his arm, speaking with a bit of a pleading tone, "That’s why you should tell me so I can understand you more."

Shane’s emotional response towards her was actually because he felt she had been neglecting him lately.

But this was not a reason he could express in front of Audrey Sutton.

So faced with Audrey Sutton’s pressing questions, he didn’t know how to respond, choosing not to answer instead.

Shane put down his cup, stood up, and headed upstairs, saying, "I’m going to take a shower. You should go to bed early."

Audrey Sutton frowned, following him upstairs, "How much did you drink? Should I make you some strong tea?"

"No need."

Audrey Sutton jogged a couple of steps to be beside him on the stair, looked at him, and softly asked, "Who were you drinking with?"

"Why ask so much?"

"I’m your girlfriend, you know."

Shane snorted coldly, "I thought you forgot I’m your boyfriend."

"How could I forget?" Audrey Sutton remembered the last time he got inexplicably angry, thinking as if she had secretly met with another man, so she asked, "Did you misunderstand something again?"

Shane, seeing her almost digging her own grave, remained silent, waiting for her to jump in.

Audrey Sutton, seeing his silence, took it as an admission.

She thought carefully, and in the past few days, she hadn’t been out alone with any men, always either with Phoebe King or her dorm mates.

Could it be...

"When I was out this morning, you weren’t following me, were you? The two guys we were having lunch with are part of the screenwriter team, just discussing something about my comic, just a meal."

Shane had no knowledge of that, "Two guys?"

"...Yeah, I don’t even know them. I just heard from my sister-in-law that they’re from the screenwriter team, and you’re upset with me over this?"

Shane: "Was I upset?"

Audrey Sutton: "But you’re just acting so strange."

She followed him to the bedroom door, where he walked in. Blocking the entrance, he seemed to not want Audrey Sutton to follow him in. He just said to her standing outside, "I’m going to take a shower, go to bed."

Audrey Sutton: "Then..."

"Bang—" 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

Audrey Sutton: "..."

Before she could finish her sentence, Shane closed the bedroom door, leaving her standing outside.

Audrey Sutton sighed, looking at the door he closed, feeling at a loss.

Wondering what on earth was wrong with him, did he really get tired of this and want to seek something new?

Audrey Sutton returned to her room, feeling downcast, laying on her bed, looking at the chandelier on the ceiling, zoning out for a moment.

She was wide awake.

Picking up her phone, she aimlessly browsed, but just thinking about Shane still sulking, she couldn’t focus on anything.

She even searched on her mobile browser about topics on the shelf life of relationships, coming across many pessimistic views.

They said that even if two people married because of love, things would eventually become dull after marriage, and they might even grow annoyed with each other over time.

During such times, if any temptation comes along, unexpected things might happen.

Things like the seven-year itch, betrayal, until ultimately leading to divorce...

The more Audrey Sutton read, the more uneasy she felt.

Somehow, she suddenly remembered what Phoebe said that day.

Audrey Sutton glanced at her wardrobe.

Is marriage something that needs freshness to be maintained?

Audrey Sutton wasn’t sure whether this idea was true, but she was willing to try anything at the moment.

Even if it was something she thought she would never try before.

She got up and took out a key to open the locked drawer in her wardrobe.

Seeing the various styles of little outfits inside made her feel a bit embarrassed just looking at them.

Audrey Sutton reached out and picked up a student uniform-style crop top, holding it up against herself.

Thinking he always complained about her being too young, dressing in a student outfit to look younger might not please him.

So Audrey Sutton put down the clothes she was holding, rifling through the wardrobe, finally settling on a cat ear maid outfit...
