Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 168: Weak? Me?
Talking about this, Audrey Sutton suddenly thought of the girl Simon Sue mentioned on stage last night.
Combining that with what he said to her later in private, it was clear that the girl he was talking about was her...
So that means... he likes her?
As soon as she thought of this possibility, Audrey hurriedly denied it in her heart, thinking that Simon must be trying to tease her. After all, he had previously blatantly said he wanted to be her lover.
"Woof woof—"
General dashed to the door. Audrey knew it must be Shane Warner coming back.
Immediately she saw the door open from the outside, and General enthusiastically wagged his tail, expressing all his day’s longing for Shane.
Shane bent over and petted General’s head. While changing shoes at the entrance, he glanced at Audrey who was busy at the kitchen counter wearing an apron.
"You’re back? Quite early today."
Shane coughed a couple of times, walked over after changing his shoes, looked at the dishes she had prepared, and because he was sick, his voice sounded hoarse, different from usual: "What are you planning to make?"
"I’ve stewed some chicken soup, and this is a dish I invented myself, I won’t tell you yet. You’ll know when you eat it later." Audrey briefly introduced the dishes she prepared, then asked him: "Your voice sounds weak, did you see a doctor today?"
"I’m weak?" He didn’t look as spirited as usual, but he still had the thought to joke about her wording.
Audrey corrected her statement: "Very weak! Did you go to the hospital?"
"Bought cold medicine from the pharmacy."
"Then go sit down and rest for a bit. The dishes will be ready soon."
Shane nodded and headed to the sofa in the living room.
He could occasionally be heard coughing. It seemed that his condition wasn’t as good as usual.
Audrey put the dishes in the pot to simmer, then took his water cup and poured him a cup of hot water, asking concernedly, "Shall we go to the hospital after dinner?"
"It’s just a cold, no need to make a fuss. I know my body."
Audrey pouted, just placing the cup of water next to him.
She thought, if it were her coughing, he’d definitely insist on taking her to the hospital.
This was quite like her dad; he would delay seeing a doctor when he was sick, thinking it was too troublesome to go to the hospital. But if her mom felt even a little unwell, he would immediately drop everything to accompany her to see a doctor.
"Is your foot better?"
"Much better, though walking still sometimes hurts a little, but not as bad as before."
"Later soak your foot again, and apply medicine for a few more days."
Audrey nodded and returned to the kitchen to continue preparing dinner.
Although she didn’t prepare any holiday gifts for him, she still wanted to create a festive atmosphere for him.
Shane sat on the sofa for a while and then went upstairs to take a shower. He showered quickly, usually five or six minutes, and wouldn’t take more than ten minutes.
Audrey arranged the cooked dishes on plates, adjusted their positions on the table a few times, set up the bowls and chopsticks, and then picked two roses from the balcony to place on the dining table as decorations.
It’s important to have a sense of ceremony.
When Shane came downstairs, wearing a thick robe, his usual sharpness seemed softened by illness, making him look much gentler.
"Do you want to eat first or have some soup first?"
Shane looked at the table, the dishes looked delicious and appetizing, he pulled out a chair and sat down, saying softly, "Serve me a bowl of soup."
Audrey smiled, took a bowl and served him a bowl of chicken soup.
It wasn’t greasy at all, very fragrant.
Audrey initially wanted to open a bottle of red wine to create a romantic atmosphere, but seeing that he had a cold, she didn’t mention drinking wine. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
"By the way, I have something to tell you." Audrey also served herself a bowl of soup.
Shane glanced at her, nodded slightly, waiting for her to speak.
Audrey took a sip of the soup with a spoon and said, "I now know who Simon Sue is."
At the mention of that name, Shane paused with his chopsticks: "Do tell."
His health wasn’t great today, and he hadn’t had time to look for that guy.
"We knew each other when we were kids. Their family used to live in the same courtyard as ours. But he was very chubby as a child and looks completely different now, so I didn’t recognize him at all."
Hearing this, Shane sipped his soup thoughtfully, thinking that even if this was the case, it didn’t rule out the possibility of Simon trying to charm Audrey away from him.
"I really didn’t expect him to change so much, and even less that I’d see him again." Audrey’s words were merely a sigh at how the world surprisingly brings people back together.
But to Shane’s ears, it sounded different: "So you found a childhood sweetheart now?"
"Not exactly, we just played together as kids, I just know of him."
Shane found a reason to earnestly remind Audrey: "Try not to interact with him. Given his profession, people are probably always trying to dig up news from him. If one day you end up in his news, I’d have to clean up the mess."
"I know, I won’t cause you any trouble."
"Good to know." He said, handing her the empty soup bowl, like a young master, saying, "Serve me some rice."
Audrey didn’t like being ordered around by him, but considering he was sick, she didn’t hold it against him.
Actually, the real reason Shane said those things was not because he feared her causing trouble, but because he was afraid that too much contact with Simon Sue might threaten his standing in the family.
Teacher’s apartment.
The voice-activated lights dimmed.
"Clap—" A clapping sound echoed, and the lights came back on.
At the corner of the emergency exit, a person sat against the wall, looking completely hopeless.
The lights flickered on and off countless times.
Phoebe King was losing her patience, looking at her watch again for what seemed like the hundredth time. She had been waiting since half-past seven in the evening, and now it was almost ten.
She had asked Audrey, who said Stephen Sutton’s class ended at nine and the teaching building wasn’t far from the teacher’s apartment. At this point, even crawling would have got him there.
Could it be that he wasn’t returning here tonight?
Audrey had mentioned there was a ninety percent chance Stephen would be back. Was she unlucky enough to encounter that ten percent?
Sitting there, cold and hungry, Phoebe pulled out her phone to send Audrey a message, asking her to help inquire about Stephen’s whereabouts.
After a few minutes, Audrey called back, saying, "My brother said he’s out having dinner, but he’ll be back at the school side tonight."
Phoebe immediately asked, "Dinner? With whom?"
She hoped she wasn’t waiting in vain while he was out dining and dating some other girl because that would indeed be a tragic scene.
