Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 163: You Really Aren’t Good Enough for Yin
Shane reached out and pulled the hood of Audrey Sutton’s down coat over her head, then followed Quentin Sterling toward the parking lot.
Audrey huddled inside her thick down coat, watching the backs of the two men.
Shane wore a long black trench coat, not as thick as hers, but at least not as thin as Quentin, which made him look cold.
Anyway, Audrey felt that if Shane dressed like Quentin, she would worry about him.
On the other hand, Clarissa Morgan accepted everything with peace of mind.
When Audrey turned to look at Clarissa, she noticed that Clarissa’s gaze was also on the backs of those two men; she just didn’t know which man Clarissa was looking at.
"Do you know why I like Shane?" Clarissa slowly withdrew her gaze and looked at Audrey.
Audrey just looked at her without responding.
Clarissa again cast her gaze in that direction, her red lips slightly raising a hint of a smile, her voice low and crisp as she said, "On stage, the first thing that appears in the audience’s line of sight isn’t the performer, but the lights."
"Shane’s presence is like a beam of light, dazzling wherever he goes. At first, you’re attracted by his radiance, then you feel he is like the vast universe, always possessing an unfathomable mystery that pulls me deeply in and I can’t escape."
Although many times Audrey disagrees with some of Clarissa’s views, she found this description quite fitting.
But when it came from Clarissa’s mouth, it sounded harsh no matter what.
Clarissa withdrew her gaze and looked at Audrey again, with a clear provocation in both her eyes and tone: "He’s like the stage lights, being with him makes me shine brighter."
Hearing Clarissa’s words, Audrey sneered and said, "Well, that’s unfortunate, your stage won’t have lights in the future."
Then laughed as she corrected herself: "Oh! I made a mistake, it never did, because my Shane has never belonged to you."
Clarissa’s smile didn’t fade: "Having the surname Sutton is your luck and what you’re proud of now, but no one can predict the future. At least, just judging by you alone, you indeed don’t match Shane. Cherish the present, what if Shane comes to his senses one day?"
Before Audrey could reply, she heard the voice of Simon Sue and his assistant behind her. Clarissa immediately turned to greet Simon: "Simon, thank you for today."
Simon took off his mask and smiled as he walked over to them, first glancing at Audrey, then speaking to Clarissa: "No need for formalities, Sister. I look forward to working together again in the future."
Clarissa nodded: "Your car hasn’t arrived yet either, has it? Can I trouble you to keep my sister Audrey company for a while? I’m going to the restroom inside."
Simon nodded and said "Sure," then Clarissa turned and walked towards the hall.
Audrey frowned as she watched Clarissa walk away, then glanced at Simon standing beside her, feeling uneasy inside.
She lowered her hat a bit, looked around, guessing they might have paparazzi set up for candid shots.
For now, she and Simon stood there alone. If someone snapped a photo, with sensationalism, it would become another captivating "secret meeting with a young heartthrob" article.
Thinking like this, Audrey silently stepped two paces aside, putting some distance between them, pretending not to know Simon.
His assistant stood to the side, making a call, seemingly discussing some advertisement endorsement.
Simon saw Audrey avoiding him, but didn’t approach her, gently asking: "Aren’t you curious about who the girl I mentioned is?"
Audrey paused but pretended not to hear.
From Simon’s angle, Audrey’s head was entirely covered by her down coat, her face was completely invisible.
"My hometown is also Driftwood Isle." Without waiting for her answer, Simon added.
Upon hearing this, Audrey turned to look at Simon. Her first reaction wasn’t meeting a fellow islander, but to frown and ask him: "How do you know I’m from Driftwood Isle?"
Simon chuckled: "You haven’t recalled yet?"
Audrey frowned deeply, scrutinizing Simon with a puzzled look. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
Simon had made it clear they had known each other before.
But no matter how she looked, she couldn’t remember having such a person in her memory.
He opened his mouth as if to say something, but his gaze shifted to the roadside as Audrey heard a car approaching, and he switched his words: "We’ll talk about it at school tomorrow."
Audrey saw Shane’s car pulling up, worried Shane might misunderstand, she didn’t reply to Simon, directly walked to the roadside. As Shane’s car stopped, she opened the door and got in.
After fastening her seatbelt, Audrey quietly glanced out the window, Simon was still standing there, his gaze fixed on her.
She thought carefully in her heart but still couldn’t recall any interaction between herself and Simon.
"Haven’t had enough to talk about? Why not get out and chat a bit more?"
Hearing Shane’s cold voice, Audrey quickly retracted her gaze and thoughts, feeling guilty, she glanced at Shane.
Before starting the car, Shane gazed deeply out the window toward Simon, appearing thoughtfully.
Although he knew Audrey liked him, he still worried she might be taken away by Simon.
Afraid that if they spent too much time together, and Audrey found Simon younger, more fitting, and having more common topics, he possibly wouldn’t stand a chance.
So he needed to find a way to stop this potential issue at the source.
Just as he was contemplating what to do, Audrey suddenly said doubtfully: "I feel like I really knew him before."
Shane’s heart tightened, but his tone was deliberately nonchalant: "What is it? An old flame?"
"No." Audrey turned and honestly told Shane, hoping he’d help analyze, "Just now Simon told me his hometown is also Driftwood Isle."
Shane’s first reaction was almost identical to Audrey’s earlier thought: "How does he know your hometown is Driftwood Isle?"
"How would I know? It’s strange to me too, but I really can’t remember meeting him before."
Saying this, Audrey mumbled to herself: "Do you think it’s possible he lied? Investigating my information first, then pretending to be a fellow islander to approach me... But what’s his purpose in doing so?"
"Does he often seek you out privately?"
Audrey shook her head: "Not often."
"So he has sought you out?"
Audrey felt she’d unknowingly fallen into a trap again, glancing at him before saying: "But I haven’t paid him any mind."
"Hmm, just keep ignoring him."
Seems it’s about time to have a good talk with Simon, to prevent him from constantly thinking about his wife behind his back.
Seeing Shane didn’t seem upset, Audrey finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She reached out to play her favorite music, watching the snow scene flow past in front of the car, and hum along with the tune playing.
