Chapter 141: Chapter 141: Embarrassing Him

Miles Sterling returned once more, already past one in the morning.

Reeking of alcohol, he walked straight to Vanessa Sterling’s bedroom door and pushed it open.

He didn’t bother to check if she was asleep, simply reached out and turned on the room’s light switch.

The room was instantly illuminated, waking her up. She moved slightly and squinted at him.

Once she realized it was him, her gaze subtly averted.

Miles glanced around the room, now tidied up by her, no longer the cluttered mess when he had left.

Her birthday had already passed.

He stood at the door for a long time, but "Happy Birthday" remained swallowed in his throat.

He switched off the light and left her room.

As winter set in deeply, the snow fell more wantonly.

Audrey Sutton, like always, finished her last afternoon class and took an umbrella to Shane Warner’s company.

As she reached the company entrance, a white Mercedes was parked outside.

She didn’t think much of it, standing in the porch to close her umbrella, shaking off the snowflakes, and slipped into the building.

The heating inside made Audrey Sutton feel significantly warmer.

Since it was work hours, the lobby was quiet apart from the receptionist and an aunt cleaning.

Audrey Sutton had been here many times; the people in the company knew her, so she moved freely in and out.

Upon reaching the elevator doors, she saw that the elevator was currently on Shane Warner’s office floor.

She pressed the button to go up, but the elevator remained motionless for quite a while.

She thought perhaps a client was preparing to leave, lingering with a few words at the elevator door.

After half a minute, the elevator finally came down; Audrey Sutton lowered her head to remove her handbag and scarf, and reached into the bag to touch the pastries, still warm.

"Ding Dong—" The elevator arrived on the first floor, slowly opening.

Audrey Sutton was momentarily stunned to see the woman standing in the elevator, and Clarissa Morgan appeared slightly surprised as well, then adjusted the mink shawl that slipped from her shoulder, smiled and said, "What a coincidence, isn’t it?"

Audrey Sutton followed with a smile, "Sister Morgan, not busy with rehearsals, still have time to wander around here?"

Clarissa Morgan observed the items in Audrey Sutton’s hand, silently but clearly disdainful in expression.

Compared to Clarissa Morgan in a curve-hugging gown, Audrey Sutton wearing a thick down jacket and still holding an umbrella, scarf, gloves, and a pastry bag did indeed feel inferior in terms of elegance.

Clarissa Morgan loftily smiled and exited the elevator, whispering only for Audrey Sutton’s ears as she passed by, "With this look, don’t come to the company and embarrass Shane."

Audrey Sutton’s spine stiffened, turning her head to sourly watch Clarissa Morgan sashaying away in high heels, feeling displeased yet knowing inwardly that she indeed didn’t match up to Clarissa Morgan’s elegance today.

Entering the elevator, Audrey Sutton scrutinized her outfit in the mirrored walls.

Previously, she never felt anything was wrong with her attire, a thick cotton coat, jeans—common attire in school.

But standing before Clarissa Morgan, looking at her stylish velvet dress complemented by a mink shawl, refined makeup, a bun, red nails, and little high heels,

Emitting four words from inside and out: Elegant and Wealthy.

Such a chic mature woman paired closely with Shane Warner indeed seemed fitting.

Looks like she could no longer dress so casually; cold or not wouldn’t be fatal, lest she encounters Clarissa Morgan again, dressed like a regal queen while she resembles a bundled-up bear.

"Ding Dong—"

The elevator doors opened again, Audrey Sutton glanced in the mirror, suddenly doubting her courage to meet Shane Warner.

He’d just seen the beautiful Clarissa Morgan; would he secretly compare when seeing her so casually dressed, and then score her negatively?

"What are you doing here?"

Startled, Audrey Sutton lifted her head to see Shane Warner standing outside the elevator, watching her.

He wore a dark gray double-breasted suit, even after a whole day’s work appearing meticulously put together. Glancing at her reflection in the elevator walls, Audrey Sutton wondered if he already thought she was embarrassing him by visiting the company.

"Standing there doing nothing?"

Audrey Sutton pursed her lips and stepped out of the elevator, glancing at him without speaking.

Shane Warner slightly frowned, naturally noticing her odd mood, turned and said to Lucian Quinn, "You go to the conference room first, I’ll be over shortly."

Lucian Quinn nodded, accepted the file passed over by Shane Warner, and headed towards the conference room.

Once Lucian Quinn walked away, Shane Warner faced Audrey Sutton and asked, "What’s wrong? Bullied at school?"

Audrey Sutton shook her head, hesitantly handing over the bag with pastries, saying, "...Brought this for you, still warm."

As she handed over the bag, the gloves wrapped with the scarf in her arms dropped one to the ground.

Shane Warner originally intended to accept the pastry bag, but instead bent down to the floor, picked up her glove, though the ground was immaculately clean, he still symbolically dusted off the glove and tucked it into her cotton coat pocket, telling her, "I’m going to a meeting, you wait for me in the office."

Audrey Sutton initially intended to visit his office for fun, but being spoken to by Clarissa Morgan drained her mood, and she only wanted to leave quickly.

Using the excuse, she said, "...I’ve made plans to hang out, the person is waiting downstairs."

Shane Warner furrowed his brows again, muttering disappointedly, "Not here specifically to see me then."

Only then did he accept the pastry from her, "Go ahead, stay safe."

Audrey Sutton nodded, turned around, pressed the elevator button, and just as she was about to enter the elevator, Shane Warner called her back, "Come here."

Confused, she looked back, seeing him walk over, reaching out to pull the zipper on her coat from chest level right up to the collar, then tidied her hat with satisfaction, "Go."

Audrey Sutton stood in the elevator, watching him head to the conference room with the pastry.

When Shane Warner arrived in the conference room, the meeting had been delayed a few minutes due to his absence.

Everyone else held pens and paper, while Shane Warner carried a box of alluring pastries, a first for him to eat during a meeting.

It was a sweet treat he typically didn’t enjoy.

Yet no one found it strange; most knew anytime the Third Young Master acted unusually, it usually involved his beloved wife.

Lately, Audrey Sutton had been making treats for him on and off, complaining he often teases her and suggesting he eat more sweets to sweeten his words. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

He accepted them only because she personally made them, and gradually, as he consumed them, his aversion to sweet treats lessened.
