Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 128: I Didn’t Offend You
Simon raised an eyebrow, surprised by her imagination.
Audrey Sutton sneered and continued, "I’m telling you, you’ve found the wrong person! No one but me will ever spend my husband’s money! Whether it’s those vixens outside or someone like you with ill intentions, there’s no way!"
Finished speaking, Audrey hurriedly left, feeling incredibly annoyed.
Back when things were uncertain with Shane Warner, she was able to like him unwaveringly for so many years. Now that she’s finally become his wife, would she really ruin it herself?
She’s not foolish.
Others might see Simon as a priceless treasure, but to her, even ten Simons wouldn’t equal one Shane Warner.
Besides, who knows what kind of trouble Simon is, and she’d never fall into a trap he sets.
Once she exited the library, Audrey felt like she had finally escaped from a wolf’s den.
As lunchtime approached, she thought Shane Warner was acting quite strange this morning.
Audrey took the initiative to message him: Do you want to have lunch together? Our school cafeteria has some new dishes, and they’re pretty good.
After sending the message, she received his reply, a simple "Okay," after quite some time.
Brief but cold, although he agreed nonetheless.
Audrey thought Shane Warner took so long to reply because he was busy and only saw it later.
In fact, Shane Warner saw her message as soon as she sent it, and he hadn’t exaggerated when he said he was waiting for her message all morning.
Having been with her for a while, he’d come to realize that while she seemed carefree, she was quite perceptive.
When he’s upset, she senses it, and as long as his mood hasn’t improved, she would always find ways to engage him with different topics.
Ever since he saw that man put a scarf on her last night, the image kept replaying in his mind, and he’s been deliberately distancing himself from her since then.
When he saw her message inviting him to lunch, he even considered finding an excuse to decline. However, after staring at their photos for a long time, the desire to see her prevented him from saying no.
At noon, he deliberately delayed for a bit before unhurriedly arriving at her school.
Just minutes before, she texted to say the food was ready, just waiting for him to come and eat.
As he walked into the third floor of the cafeteria, Audrey was standing at the entrance, smiling and waving at him.
The moment he saw her smile, the gloom in Shane Warner’s heart dissipated for a few seconds, only to return when he remembered that such a smile might someday not belong to him anymore, darkening his mood again.
"Was there a traffic jam on the way? The dishes have been served for quite a while." Audrey thought she’d found a good topic to discuss, but Shane Warner remained silent.
Her smile became somewhat stiff, unsure of what was wrong with him.
As they reached the table, she attentively pulled out a chair for him, which he usually did for her.
"You should try this braised beef; it’s really delicious." She placed a piece into his bowl and observed his expression.
He finally spoke, his tone neither warm nor cold: "Eat your own."
When he spoke, Audrey felt relieved and ate a piece of potato, saying, "I wanted to ask the chef to make it with radishes, but he said he only prepared potatoes today."
"Mm." 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
He ended the conversation there.
Audrey absentmindedly ate a few bites of rice, unable to hold back, asking him, "What’s up with you?"
Shane Warner finally looked her in the eye, "What’s up with what? Hurry and eat."
"You’ve been acting strange since last night. If I did something wrong, tell me, I’ll change. If it’s work stress, why are you taking it out on me? I didn’t provoke you."
The first part was pleasant to hear, but the latter set Shane Warner to icy mode.
He lowered his head to eat without responding.
Audrey pouted, feeling that this stubborn man was difficult to please, and didn’t want to serve him.
In a fit of pique, she piled several pieces of beef into her bowl, without eating them, leaving him only potatoes.
Suddenly, the quiet cafeteria erupted, and Audrey knew without looking that Simon was the cause of such commotion.
Did his company really go bankrupt? Is he coming to the cafeteria to scrounge meals? Or trying to portray himself as grounded?
After analyzing, Audrey feigned indifference and casually glanced over, realizing Simon was wearing the scarf from yesterday. Her heart skipped a beat.
Then she nervously glanced at Shane Warner, quickly comforting herself internally.
The lighting was quite dim last night, and she clutched the scarf in her hand all the way, plus he hardly looked at her the entire journey.
He should have only noticed the scarf’s color, not its style.
Gray scarves are everywhere, he shouldn’t connect the dots.
Simon entered the cafeteria, interacting with female fans, and his gaze momentarily shifted to Audrey’s direction, startling Audrey into quickly averting her gaze and stuffing a chunk of beef into her mouth.
Shane Warner initially had his back to Simon, but as Simon approached, entering Shane Warner’s line of sight, he lazily looked up to see what the commotion was about.
Whether by coincidence or if Simon’s gaze was originally fixed on him, Shane Warner met Simon’s eyes as he looked up, although Simon quickly turned to smile and say something to the nearby female fans.
Shane Warner initially assumed Simon was some campus idol adored by students and was about to look away when he suddenly noticed the familiar gray scarf around Simon’s neck.
Could it be... this was the guy who put the scarf on Audrey Sutton last night?
With this thought, Shane Warner lowered his head to glance at Audrey.
She seemed indifferent to the commotion over there, but her constant food-picking gesture, although a good facade, revealed her nervousness.
This only convinced Shane Warner even more that it was indeed him.
The undercurrent between the two left Shane Warner with no appetite. How long have they known each other? How far have they progressed? Does Audrey Sutton... like him?
Audrey noticed Shane Warner set down his chopsticks, the food in his bowl barely touched.
Words of concern reached her lips, but recalling his indifferent attitude, Audrey changed her mind and muttered, "Fine, don’t eat."
Audrey assumed it was because she took the beef away, and he was being pretentious.
Seeing him wipe his mouth with a napkin, seemingly really not intending to continue eating.
In annoyance, Audrey picked up the plate and dumped all the potatoes into her bowl.
Add to that another plate of spicy chicken, greens, and yam soup, hardly touched.
Seemingly playing with his phone, Shane Warner discreetly opened the front camera, aiming at Simon seated diagonally behind him, pressed the shutter, and sent the photo to Faye Xavier, with the accompanying message: Help me investigate this person.
