Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 105: For Her Looks
Vincent Warner said, "...Isn’t today Shane’s birthday? I bought him a gift, and I’d like to trouble you to give it to him for me."
Audrey Sutton hesitated, worried that Shane would scold her if he found out, but she couldn’t find the words to refuse Vincent’s request.
Besides, she always felt that Vincent wasn’t particularly frightening, and he seemed genuinely concerned about Shane. Perhaps there was simply some misunderstanding between them that hadn’t been resolved.
"...Alright, wait a moment, I’ll be right down."
After hanging up, Audrey glanced nervously at Shane, seeing him turned sideways in her direction, seemingly not paying attention. She slipped outside and started heading downstairs.
...
Clarissa Morgan walked up to Shane with a gift box. Several classmates who knew Clarissa had pursued Shane were standing around, all casting ambiguous, playful glances at the two, as if everyone shared an unspoken understanding of certain things.
"Shane, this is a watch I picked for you. It matches your white suit perfectly today," Clarissa said as she opened the gift box in front of everyone, taking out the watch embedded in the sponge. She looked at Shane with a smile and said, "Let me put it on for you."
Shane stood by and looked at Clarissa, then at the watch in her hand, and then at the distance. By rights, that girl should be rushing over to help him block the arrows, so why can’t he see her now?
He turned his head, looking around, when a male classmate beside him urged, "Shane, what are you looking around for? Clarissa’s hand must be tired. Let her put it on you quickly!"
Another voice quietly commented, "That watch isn’t cheap. It’s worth hundreds of thousands, enough to buy a small apartment on the outskirts."
"Clarissa is really generous."
"Sigh, I don’t know what Shane was thinking back then. If a girl as nice as Clarissa pursued me, I’d have definitely married her by now."
Not seeing a trace of Audrey, Shane then said to Clarissa, "Thanks, but I’m used to wearing my own watch and have no plans to change."
Clarissa wasn’t embarrassed at all. As she put the watch back into the box, she said, "It’s alright. You can switch them around. Yours is black, and this one is white, so you can match them with your outfits."
Shane just nodded politely.
Clarissa smiled and said, "I think this might be the first time I’ve seen you in a white suit, and this watch face is also white. It seems we have some tacit understanding." 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Shane smiled faintly without responding, obviously unwilling to engage too much with Clarissa.
He wore white this time because the stylist casually mentioned that light colors look younger than dark ones.
"You guys chat; my girl has disappeared again. I’m going to look for her," Shane said with a smile to the friends around him and then excused himself.
Clarissa walked alongside him, saying, "Come with me, I know where Audrey is."
Shane glanced at her as she pointed to a balcony next to the corridor on the second floor, "This way."
The balcony faced the bar’s entrance. Without Clarissa needing to say more, Shane saw that misty blue figure downstairs.
Upon recognizing the person across from him, Shane furrowed his brows and turned to head downstairs.
Clarissa reached out to stop him, saying, "Don’t pretend anymore, Shane."
After a pause, Clarissa continued, "I already know, you married her just because your grandfather said you had to wed to inherit The Warner’s assets. You don’t really love her, do you?"
Shane chuckled lightly, "Stop thinking you’re smart."
"She was just someone you randomly picked for the wedding, and the only beneficial thing was her Sutton background, which is neither here nor there for you, right?"
Shane turned to look at her, smiling, "When it comes to background, you really can’t compare to her."
"But do you care about that? Shane, there’s no need to sacrifice your happiness for this."
Shane smiled lightly, "She and I are well-matched, how do you know I’m not happy?"
"She’s still immature, what do you see in her?"
"I find her beautiful," Shane said earnestly as if that was the real reason, "Remember, you’re now Mrs. Sterling. Mind your status."
At this mention, Clarissa’s expression darkened, and with a somber tone, she said, "He’s liked me for many years, but I never agreed to him because I always thought I might be with you."
"Only after I heard you got married did I accept his proposal, because I felt like it didn’t matter who the groom was as long as it wasn’t you."
Shane chuckled, "That’s why I don’t like you."
Clarissa paused and asked, "What do you mean?"
Shane said, "She’s very straightforward and wouldn’t, as a married woman, go after other men."
Hearing this, Clarissa smiled and pointed downstairs, "Then who is she meeting? Did you take this marriage seriously? Do you think she’s the same as you? You’re just fooled by her naive appearance."
Shane turned and walked away, saying, "That man’s last name is also Warner."
Clarissa stood still in the night wind for two seconds before realizing what he meant.
It turns out they are relatives; no wonder he doesn’t suspect Audrey of secretly seeing another man behind his back.
Audrey stealthily returned upstairs and immediately ran into Shane at the stairway entrance on the second floor.
"Where did you go?" Shane asked her from the top of the stairs.
Audrey swallowed nervously, hiding the gift box behind her back, coughed lightly, and feigned nonchalance as she said, "I went downstairs to find something to eat."
He coldly pursued, "Where is it?"
She answered matter-of-factly, "I ate it."
Shane frowned but didn’t expose her lie.
He knew she lied not because of anything inappropriate between her and Vincent but because she feared being scolded by him if he found out.
Now he didn’t want to reprimand her and make her unhappy, deciding to address it slowly later.
Seeing his hand extended towards her, Audrey smiled and placed her hand onto his, following him back to the private room.
Upon entering, Audrey noticed Clarissa holding a glass of champagne, laughing and chatting with a group of men. Meeting her gaze for a moment, Audrey remembered Clarissa saying she would deliver the gift to Shane personally.
Thinking of this, she immediately glanced at Shane’s wrist, relieved to see he was still wearing his own watch.
Shane pointed to the buffet area and said to Audrey, "There’s food upstairs, don’t run around unnecessarily."
Audrey nodded obediently, "I’ll go get a drink."
Shane nodded, adding, "No cold drinks."
Audrey immediately nodded, and as she turned towards the dining area, she quickly changed directions, hurrying to place the gift box Vincent gave her into the pile of gifts.
Vincent had said to give the gift to Shane after the birthday event ended, to avoid his presence causing Shane any displeasure.
And Audrey also didn’t want Shane to know she had met Vincent now, as she’d surely get scolded if he found out.
