Mr. Sterling, Mrs. Sterling is Multifaceted!-Chapter 246: Why Don’t You Cry?
"Stop overthinking it, let’s go home first."
The rain was still getting heavier, and Ethan Sterling tried to reach for Seraphina Redgrave’s hand.
But Seraphina, sitting in the heavy rain for so long, was numb all over. When suddenly pulled like this, it felt like her whole body was about to fall apart, and she frowned in pain.
Ethan pulled her to stand up, but she couldn’t hold on, swayed twice, and almost fell, "Ethan, don’t pull me, it hurts."
Her voice was soft, and those few words sounded like a playful complaint.
Ethan thought it was because she’d been sitting too long, and her body hadn’t warmed up, making her uncomfortable.
But slowly, he realized something was wrong.
He saw a hint of red at the corner of Seraphina’s lips, quickly washed away by the raindrops falling to the ground.
The blood dripped drop by drop, but when it hit the ground, it couldn’t even spread.
"Seraphina!"
Ethan panicked, feeling like the girl in front of him was as light as a sheet of paper, ready to fly away at a moment’s notice.
Did that damned man make her this upset?
Seraphina felt like there were little bugs crawling in her throat, itching unbearably.
She coughed, and tasted a metallic taste in her mouth; it turned out she had coughed up blood.
Seraphina wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth, looking on calmly.
A bit uncomfortable.
She struggled to keep herself from collapsing. When she looked up, she saw Ethan’s amber eyes, reflecting her pale, weak face, and a fleeting panic.
It was the first time she’d read such an emotion as panic in Ethan’s eyes.
She tugged her lips, slowly raised her hand to grab his sleeve, and whispered, "It’s okay, Ethan, I just feel a bit uncomfortable. My mind is a mess. It will get better after a while."
Zachary said she couldn’t ruin the whole plan because of him, but she couldn’t even explain what her plan had become.
It seemed to be progressing step by step, yet she couldn’t even protect a living person.
The heavy rain continued, pounding coldly on their hearts.
Ethan looked at her stubborn little face and suddenly understood everything, "What are you enduring for?"
Although his tone was rising at the end, it sounded like a statement.
Seraphina didn’t answer him, only her quietly clenched fists revealed her helplessness.
"Why aren’t you crying?"
Ethan gripped her shoulders tightly, so much that his fingertips turned white. This time, he couldn’t control his emotions and roared, "Since it hurts so much, why don’t you cry!"
Isn’t that what women do?
Once the tears are dry, the sadness passes.
But what about her?
When Granny Coleman died last time, she didn’t shed a single tear, just mechanically finished the dumplings Granny made.
This time, when the brother from Veridian Isle died, she didn’t cry either, but was so upset she coughed up blood.
Tears?
Seraphina shook her head, "Are tears useful? I knew from a young age that tears are the most useless thing in the world."
From childhood, her tears were worthless. As long as Mia shed a tear, they would be eager to present the best in the world to her, but her own tears couldn’t buy even a moment of comfort or greeting.
Later, when she went to Veridian Isle, life was worse than death. She could choose to cry herself dry and die for peace, but she was unwilling, so she couldn’t cry.
After a long time, she forgot how to cry.
Hearing this, Ethan wished he could pry open this woman’s mind to see what was inside. He said fiercely, "Damn it, I’m your man! If you can’t be free in front of me, what use am I?"
This really had nothing to do with him.
Her tears had long since dried up.
"Let’s see a doctor."
Ethan, determined, decided to carry Seraphina away directly.
"Wait, I still haven’t gotten the candy."
Seraphina took two steps back.
"Candy?" Ethan didn’t understand.
"Brother Zack gave me candy, and I haven’t gone to get it." Seraphina said flatly, "But my foot is sprained, and I can’t walk."
So, she had been sitting here all along, her leg hurt too much, and she couldn’t move.
Ethan looked down at Seraphina’s ankle and found it indeed swollen badly, gritting his teeth, "I prepared a candy house for you, isn’t that enough? You’re not allowed to eat other people’s candy!"
Only his!
Having said that, Ethan planned to carry her away directly, giving her no chance to resist.
Seraphina looked at Ethan with an expressionless face, neither refusing nor agreeing.
Standing still.
Ethan was irritated, but seeing her stubborn look, he was at a loss, finally turning around to leave his back to Seraphina, "I’m really fed up with you, get on."
Seraphina looked at his broad shoulders, her fingertips trembling.
"Get on, weren’t you looking for the candy? I’ll take you there."
Ethan thought maybe the woman hadn’t heard him, so he explained once again.
Damn it.
The dignified CEO of Sterling Group, actually carrying his woman to find candy left by another man, no matter how you think about it, it’s humiliating.
Seraphina pursed her lips and finally obediently leaned onto his back.
Both were already soaking wet, Ethan wiped the rain off his face, then firmly held Seraphina’s legs, stood up straight, and asked irritably, "Which way do we go?"
"It’s in this area, but I’m not sure which house specifically, we’ll have to check the house numbers."
Seraphina wrapped her arms around his neck, seeing his jawline tighten in frustration, and said, "I feel like my leg is better, I can look for it myself, it might be hard to find."
"If you don’t want to be thrown off, shut up now."
Ethan carried her back to the car, found a flashlight, and handed it to Seraphina.
Here, due to the terrain being so remote, the above didn’t pay much attention to the planning layout, leading to the houses arranged in no specific order, with different heights, and easy to get lost.
Ethan tried hard to figure out the direction in front, holding the girl behind him steadily.
"Look here!" Seraphina reminded him.
She shone the flashlight on a house number, but it wasn’t the one Zachary had told her about.
Ethan continued moving forward. Ahead, there was originally a stone path, but because of the heavy rain, it was now muddy, making the stones invisible.
Ethan walked step by step, with mud splashing everywhere, but he didn’t care at all.
An hour passed, and the two were still searching.
The rain showed no signs of stopping, and at times the sound of the rain drowned out their voices as they spoke to each other.
"Could you have gotten it wrong? It feels like it’s not here."
Ethan adjusted Seraphina on his back slightly upwards.
She felt certain the man must be tired. After all, she wasn’t as light as a child, and after an hour in pouring rain, anyone would be exhausted.
But she had to find the candy today.
Seraphina thought for a moment and whispered into Ethan’s ear, "You go wait in the car, and I’ll come back once I’ve found it, okay?"
