Mr. Sterling, Mrs. Sterling is Multifaceted!-Chapter 237: The Imprisoned Woman
Selena Quinn stopped a taxi, and about half an hour later, the taxi pulled up in front of a private villa.
Selena got out, looked around to make sure there was no one around, and then walked in.
The villa was spacious and bright, but since it hadn’t been decorated yet, it looked somewhat unattractive.
Selena took off her scarf and baseball cap, descended a staircase, and walked into the basement.
The pitch-black basement was like the gaping mouth of an abyss, and who knew what filth lurked within.
As Selena reached the doorway, the overwhelming stench made her cover her nose in disgust.
With a flick, she turned on the basement lights. It was still dim, but better than complete darkness.
She leaned against the wall and walked further inside.
The floor of the vast basement was littered with filthy food bags and some maggot-infested food.
There were also several skirts and underwear so blackened their original colors were undiscernible, making one want to vomit.
Selena fought hard not to retch, and when she opened her eyes again, she saw a massive iron chain embedded in the corner of the wall, shackling a woman on the other end.
The woman’s fingernails were packed with grime, and her hands were so rough they were unbearable to look at.
Slumped against the wall, the woman sat in despair, her once smooth, well-maintained hair resembling a bird’s nest.
With little flesh on her face, her prominent cheekbones were quite horrifying. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Her breath was weak, and it was hard to tell if her eyes were squinted or closed.
The dress she was wearing was so dirty and tattered its original form was unrecognizable. Beneath the hem was a pair of unnaturally skinny legs, also asymmetrical in length.
The legs seemed detached from her body, lifelessly laid out there.
This person was once the sensational wealthy heiress on the internet, Mia Redgrave.
Selena approached, her beautiful eyes filled with disgust, and she kicked Mia’s body.
Mia slowly awoke, eyes filled with confusion.
Upon recognizing the woman in front of her, Mia screamed desperately, but having been malnourished, her voice wasn’t as piercing as she had imagined.
She tried to back away in fear as if seeing a demon, but her back met the cold wall; there was nowhere left to retreat.
"Surviving until now, that’s unexpected," Selena said, covering her nose as if she were looking at a pile of trash.
"What will it take for you to let me go?" Mia dared not retort; she was terrified, too terrified.
This woman, she was a devil!
A vengeful spirit climbing up from The Netherworld!
She had instigated her mother to run over Seraphina Redgrave, but when the plan failed, afraid of being exposed, she kidnapped her instead. Even though they hadn’t reached Veridian Isle, she was living a fate worse than death here.
Life here was cold and hopeless. She could only eat food no dog would touch and drink water that tasted strange.
Seraphina broke her legs, leaving her only able to crawl, confined to an area with its radius defined by the chain. Sometimes, she couldn’t even make it to the bathroom in time for basic needs.
Here, she lived worse than a pig or dog.
She had thought about suicide, about smashing her head to end it all.
But... she didn’t have the courage.
Selena sneered at her, looking down disdainfully. In her eyes, this woman was stupid, purely stupid, lacking even the courage to take her own life.
She kept Mia here to pressure Lena Lynch so no one would discover that she was the one who orchestrated the car accident.
Mia was the perfect leverage.
Confined here, given just enough food and water to stay alive.
After Lena was sentenced to death, Mia’s fate was no longer her concern.
But today, after a surprise discovery at the sales office, she came specifically to question this woman.
Selena squatted in front of her, "I have a question for you."
Mia trembled uncontrollably, her eyes filled with terror, her greasy hair clinging to her head with no hint of beauty.
"Did your family sent Seraphina Redgrave to Veridian Isle?" Selena softened her tone.
Seraphina!
The mention of that name forced Mia to glance down at her legs—another terrifying woman!
They were both demons!
Crawling up from The Netherworld!
Mia wanted to speak, but her throat felt tightly constricted as if by giant hands, leaving her voiceless. Sweat poured from her brow as she gulped for air.
"I hadn’t considered why such a deep-seated hatred exists between you," Selena’s eyes gleamed with intrigue, "So, tell me."
Mia huddled, her trembling fingertips revealing her inner panic.
Selena waited patiently, "Speak up, if you confess, I might consider letting you go."
Mia had been detained for so long, she felt half-crazed, muttering, "Let me go! Let me leave!"
For an instant, Selena’s expression turned vicious; she had no patience left. Grabbing the closest rag, she smothered Mia’s nose with it.
"Mmph... mmph..."
Mia, already struggling to breathe, felt as if her lungs were a desert, fighting in vain against Selena’s feeble assault.
Selena herself was uncomfortable; it was the first time doing such a thing, straining her, causing her breathing to become labored, "Alright, now will you speak?"
Mia’s cloudy eyes brimmed with tears, she quickly nodded.
Selena took a deep breath, discarded the rag to the side, glancing disdainfully at her hand, "Now, tell me, did Seraphina escape from Veridian Isle?"
Mia lay curled on the floor like a dying fish, gasping desperately for air.
Suddenly overwhelmed by the rush of air into her lungs, she began to cough violently.
She dared not stay silent, "Yes," she struggled to say.
Recalling past events, her voice was raspy, "She was sent to Veridian Isle by our family on her eighteenth birthday."
"So she really is the trash of Veridian Isle?"
Selena’s eyes glimmered; it was the finest news she had ever heard in her life.
"Why didn’t you say so earlier?" Selena stood up and kicked Mia.
If she had known earlier, would she need to go to such lengths?
She thought Seraphina had changed her name to distance herself from the Redgrave Family.
Ha, Seraphina—always so high and mighty—who would have thought she was the lowest of the low!
Mia coughed uncontrollably from the kick, finally saying, "How could I just say such a thing? If anyone found out we sent her to Veridian Isle by illegal means, my dad’s career would be finished!"
In the end, the Redgrave Family was destroyed anyway.
Ruined by Seraphina, everything fell apart.
