Mr. Fairchild's Rose: She is Wild and Proud-Chapter 361 - 230: I’m the One He Loves Most
After finishing "Southern Mountain," Maeve Lane thought for a moment and decided to head to the Fairchild Residence first.
By the time Julian Fairchild found out, Maeve Lane was already home. He frowned slightly and called.
The call was quickly connected.
Julian Fairchild spoke, "Wait for me to come back with you."
Maeve Lane raised an eyebrow, "Why?"
She soon found out why, because Mrs. Fairchild appeared in front of her.
The girl said into the phone, "I got it."
Then she hung up the phone.
Julian Fairchild called because he was afraid Mrs. Fairchild would give her a hard time, so he wanted her to wait for him to come back together.
But unfortunately, they had already run into each other.
Mrs. Fairchild and Maeve Lane faced each other in the center of the hall, neither speaking first.
Finally, it was Mrs. Fairchild who gave in, compromising, "Since you’re here, why don’t you join me for a meal?"
Though it was an invitation, when it came from her mouth, it sounded more arrogant than others.
Maeve Lane replied flatly, "I’ve already eaten."
Mrs. Fairchild’s face dropped, "Julian said he wants you to be the lady of the house. I suppose I can’t say much about that, but isn’t your attitude a bit too arrogant? If you marry in, I’ll be your mother-in-law!"
"I told you, I’ve eaten."
"And you can’t have another meal with me?" Mrs. Fairchild was holding back anger, but she knew as long as Julian sided with Maeve Lane, she wouldn’t gain any advantage, "So inconsiderate, I wonder how your mom raised you."
Maeve Lane paused mid-step as she went upstairs, turned around, and her lips curled into a mocking smile, "Mrs. Fairchild, instead of criticizing my mother, you should look at yourself."
Mrs. Fairchild’s expression stiffened, "Talking back! Do you really think I can’t handle you?"
But the girl wasn’t scared at all, instead, she chuckled lightly, "If you could handle me, would you have let me walk into the Fairchild Family’s door?"
After saying this, Maeve Lane left gracefully.
"You, you...!" Mrs. Fairchild pointed at her, her fingers trembling, unable to utter a single word.
Butler Forrest quickly stepped forward to support Mrs. Fairchild, sighing, "Madam, why put yourself through this? You know Miss Lane has a bad temper, so why speak so commandingly? Isn’t that causing trouble for yourself?"
"I just asked her to have a meal! Is that wrong? I even offered her a way out and she didn’t take it!" Mrs. Fairchild fumed.
"That wasn’t the tone for inviting someone to dinner. Miss Lane is inherently rebellious. Considering how you’ve treated her, not to mention Miss Lane’s temper, even a more docile person wouldn’t let it go easily."
Mrs. Fairchild couldn’t bear to hear another word, "Enough with the chatter, aren’t you going to lead the way to the dining room?"
Butler Forrest sighed again and quietly led the way.
In the evening, after Maeve Lane finished organizing her things, she glanced at the clock.
It was already eight o’clock.
"It takes two hours to get there, Keane must be asleep by now." She mumbled to herself, "Better go back tomorrow to avoid waking him."
She was enveloped in the warmth of a chest. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Maeve Lane was slightly startled, instantly surrounded by the man’s aggressive presence, "You’re back?"
"Yeah."
Julian Fairchild lowered his head, his chin resting on her neck, "Don’t move, let me hold you."
His voice carried a subtle fatigue, yet inexplicably reassuring and powerful.
Maeve Lane stood there, letting him hold her for a while.
A few minutes later, Julian Fairchild lifted his head, "You met her?"
Julian Fairchild picked her up, cradling her like a child, and walked slowly to the sofa to sit down.
Maeve Lane placed her hands on his solid chest, her face calm, "Yes, I did."
She thought Julian Fairchild would ask what Mrs. Fairchild said, but it was as if he avoided the topic, vowing, "When you marry me, you can live wherever you want."
Maeve Lane drawn out an "Oh" in response.
Julian Fairchild continued, "I’ll go with you to the Fairchild Family whenever you want."
"What’s this about?" Maeve Lane asked, raising her eyebrows, "Suddenly explaining so much, did you do something to betray me?"
Julian Fairchild gave her butt a smack, gritting his teeth, "Say that again?"
With a faint sound echoing ambiguously in the room, Maeve Lane’s composed demeanor broke, her eyes wide, and the hands bracing against his chest went soft. She mumbled, "Why are you like this again?"
"Like what?" Julian Fairchild, with teasing in his mind.
Maeve Lane blushed slightly, quickly changing the subject, "Then why did you suddenly say those things just now?"
Julian Fairchild, close to her, his warm breath sprinkling on her ear, "Aren’t I afraid you’ll run away?"
Maeve Lane tried to distance herself, but his long, strong arms blocked her path of retreat. She avoided his intense gaze, casually saying, "Run away for what? Am I the kind of person who goes back on my word?"
