Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride-Chapter 876 - 872: At Most, Just an Expired Ex
As the year-end approached, Melody Zachary hurriedly returned to T City to reunite with her son for a day and then rushed back to the film set. With good resources, she didn’t have to worry about not having roles to play. Sometimes she shuttled between two film sets a day. Despite being busy, she enjoyed it immensely.
Having been a full-time housewife for nearly thirty years, finally having her own career in her twilight years felt worthwhile and valuable.
Melody personally cooked a tableful of dishes. Oliver Shaw somehow got the news and showed up at his son’s apartment. Seeing through the surveillance monitor that it was Oliver ringing the doorbell, Melody directly and unceremoniously rejected him, "It’s New Year’s Eve, go celebrate with your darling daughter’s family. Felix and I don’t welcome you!"
After saying that, she returned to the kitchen to continue working, and also warned her son not to open the door for Oliver.
In the kitchen, the mother, wearing an apron, busily worked at the stove. Outside the main door, the father relentlessly pressed the doorbell. Caught between his parents, Felix Shaw, the son, found himself in a difficult spot.
After ringing the doorbell for a long time without a response, Oliver Shaw had no choice but to call his son, "Felix, open the door for me. Do you really want me to spend New Year’s alone at home?"
"Dad, it’s not me refusing to open the door for you; it’s mom’s orders..." Felix Shaw directly passed the buck, immediately provoking Oliver Shaw to angrily say, "Give the phone to your mom. I’ll talk to her myself!"
In the kitchen, Melody held the phone in one hand while continuing to stir-fry the food in the pot, sarcastically saying, "Oliver Shaw, how have you fallen to such a pathetic state? On New Year’s Eve, you still come to my home shamelessly bum a meal. What’s wrong, your young wife doesn’t care about you anymore? I doubt it; I remember she used to call you her hubby with such enthusiasm..."
Embarrassed by his ex-wife’s ridicule, Oliver couldn’t take it anymore and immediately interrupted her mockery, saying with irritation, "Melody! Stop saying useless things. Have Felix open the door for me!"
"I say, no!" Melody threw the spoon into the wok, holding the phone in one hand and putting her hand on her hip. Whether it was because of her acting career or not, even while arguing with Oliver over the phone, her facial expressions were very vivid.
"Oliver Shaw, who do you think you are? You think you have the right to boss me around? Let me tell you, we have absolutely no relationship now. At best, you’re just an expired ex!"
Before their divorce, Melody always listened to Oliver, barely speaking loudly. For Oliver, encountering her acting so fiercely was a first. Just as he was about to rebuke her, Melody had already hung up the phone and tossed it into her apron pocket, picked up the spoon, and continued her stir-frying.
Felix Shaw shook his head helplessly and returned to the living room to keep watching the computer.
Downstairs in front of the building’s entrance, Oliver Shaw, thoroughly irritated, cursed under his breath, pulled out the number, and dialed again. Melody had already plated the dish from the wok, glanced at the phone ringing again, rinsed the wok with cold water, and proceeded to fry the next dish, completely ignoring the ringing phone in her apron pocket.
The dining table was filled with dishes, and Melody opened a bottle of red wine. "Come on, son, let’s have a drink,"
"Mom, let me," Felix Shaw took the wine bottle, poured a glass for his mother, and then for himself. "Mom, perhaps let’s let dad come up. I checked just now, and he’s still downstairs pacing."
"Absolutely not," Melody took the glass her son poured, her face suddenly turning cold, "Back then when he kicked us out, he didn’t show any mercy!"
