Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback-Chapter 348: Bringer Of Bad Luck
Chapter 348: Chapter 348: Bringer Of Bad Luck
Daniel narrowed his eyes. "So you’re saying my wife came to you because of me?"
"That’s right. Mrs. Wilson said the Morgan family business originally belonged to Wesley, but Connor stole it from him. The Morgans have been living a luxurious life from something that they’ve stolen. Now it’s time to return it."
Nancy had heard that Daniel doted on his wife, but she didn’t know the full story. Still, since she had already chosen to side with Chantelle, she had no choice but to lay all her cards on the table.
If it worked out, she’d consider herself lucky. At least she’d be aligned with someone as powerful as Daniel.
If things didn’t go her way, she might not succeed right away. But with what Chantelle had taught her, she could still work her way up and take control of the Morgan family. She just had to push harder.
Daniel’s lips curved slightly. "What else did my wife say?"
Nancy’s sharp instincts kicked in. She could tell Daniel had become more dangerous, especially when she mentioned Chantelle. But suddenly, he sounded calm, even casual after she shared everything. That only confirmed she had made the right bet.
"Mrs. Wilson even said she swore to make Connor and the Morgan family pay back what they took... Without them in the picture, Mr. Wesley Wilson would have a much smoother path ahead..." Nancy told Daniel everything she knew, including a few of her own guesses.
The more Daniel listened, the happier he became. He was overjoyed. It showed that Chantelle still cared about him.
She had been doing all this for him without saying a word.
"Give all the documents to Ashton. You’ll get what my wife promised."
"Thank you so much, Mr. Wilson." Nancy was so happy she could’ve danced.
All that time Nancy spent in the Morgan family, putting up with those awful people, had finally paid off. She hadn’t wasted her time staying silent and keeping her head down.
She had finally made it through.
Chantelle had promised her that if she gave up everything she knew about Connor, all of the Morgan family’s shares would be hers.
At that moment, Nancy didn’t realize she had made the best choice. It was only a few days later, when she saw several major companies in Easthan go bankrupt, that she felt proud of herself. She felt lucky that Chantelle had decided to work with her.
If not, she could’ve ended up like the rest, who was ruined, in prison, or even pushed to end her own life.
Half an hour later, Daniel received something from Nancy. It was a disc with the Morgan family’s financial records and a video.
When he played the video, it showed Connor getting beaten up by people collecting debts. Out of fear for his life, Connor spilled everything like how he had stolen important documents from Wesley, how he teamed up with others to betray the Wilson family, and how their actions nearly drove the Wilsons to bankruptcy. He even tried to pin the blame on Chantelle.
Still, Connor wasn’t the mastermind. He didn’t know the most critical details.
But Daniel managed to piece things together. One name stood out, it was Ezra from the Gillian family.
The Gillians had a complicated past with the Wilsons. On the surface, they were allies, but in reality, they were longtime rivals.
Ezra was about the same age as Wesley, and they came from similar backgrounds. They started taking over their family businesses around the same time.
But the Gillian family was always a step behind the Wilsons. Ezra was no different. He couldn’t match Wesley in looks or ability.
Daniel knew Ezra had always wanted to beat Wesley, but he didn’t think Ezra would stoop so low.
He thought about his grandfather’s death and how much the Gillians had taken from them. Even after all that, they still couldn’t rise above the Wilson family. In fact, they lost to them in almost everything.
The Gillians didn’t even have the courage to face Daniel.
"Dig into the Gillian family’s link to Joseph. I want everything you can find."
"Got it." Ashton had almost fully recovered and was back at work, doing everything he could to help Daniel.
If Chantelle found out Ashton had returned so soon, she’d probably scold Daniel for pushing him too hard. She’d be disappointed in him.
Thinking about that, Daniel softened. "Just assign the work to your team. No need to handle things yourself."
"Thank you for understanding," Ashton said in a trembling voice, and his eyes almost tearing up at Daniel’s kindness.
Meanwhile, in New Yale, Chantelle finally arrived at Xander’s hospital room. The kids were with her. They stood by the window, watching Xander sleep peacefully.
As she looked at him, Chantelle suddenly felt nervous about rebuilding their bond.
"Mommy, our godfather will be so happy to see us," Stephanie said as she pulled Chantelle’s arm with a big smile on her face.
Chantelle nodded in agreement and was just about to push the door open when a familiar, irritating voice rang out.
"Why are you here, you bringer of bad luck? Are you here to kill him since you’ve always hated my son?"
Chantelle didn’t need to look back to know who it was. She quickly covered Stephanie’s ears and walked away.
It wasn’t because she was scared or unwilling to face her. Deep down, she still felt guilty.
Six years ago, when Chantelle first woke up in the hospital, it was Xander’s mother who looked after her. She had been a kind and gentle woman.
But things changed over time. As Xander rose quickly in the business world, more and more people began to see him as a threat.
Some even showed up at his home.
Xander’s mother had lived a quiet, peaceful life. All she wanted was to see her son and daughter-in-law live the same way.
She didn’t think Xander had caused the trouble, so she believed Chantelle was the reason behind it. To her, Chantelle had suddenly shown up in their lives, appearing in the hospital out of nowhere and barely clinging to life.
Emelia used to like Chantelle at first because she felt sorry for her. But later on, when Chantelle had to pretend to be Xander’s girlfriend due to certain circumstances, Emelia felt it wasn’t right.
Her son had graduated from Camber University and had a well-paying job. Emelia believed he could easily find a girlfriend from a wealthy, respectable family, not someone like Chantelle, a divorcee with children.
Still, there was a time when Xander managed to convince her to give Chantelle a chance. Chantelle was surprised that Emelia actually listened. She even made an effort to get closer to her and the kids.
