Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback-Chapter 286: What’s So Funny?
Chapter 286: Chapter 286: What’s So Funny?
After returning to the Wilson residence, Chantelle suddenly felt like asking Daniel how he felt six years ago when he thought she had died. But after thinking it over, she chose not to bring it up yet.
She wasn’t just letting go of her past from six years ago. She wanted to leave behind the mess and start fresh.
That was the only way she could really move on.
"You drugged Lone Wolf?" Chantelle asked, changing the topic.
Daniel nodded. "I know he’s smart enough to escape. But he dared to kidnap my wife right in front of me. He has to pay for that."
"I have to say, you did a great job this time!" Chantelle said, giving him a thumbs-up.
Lone Wolf was always hard to track. No one ever knew where he was. He would just show up from time to time to cause trouble.
If they kept waiting for him to strike, they’d always be one step behind. That’s why they chose to act first.
Back when Chantelle fought with him, she managed to sneak a tracking bug on him. But he found it quickly.
He even stuck it onto a food delivery guy. Calvin ended up chasing that poor guy around Easthan for almost an hour.
"Thanks. So, what’s my reward?" Daniel asked, suddenly pulling Chantelle closer by the waist.
Chantelle had noticed how much he seemed to enjoy being close to her lately. His moves were so natural like he’d done it a hundred times before. It felt like they couldn’t even talk properly unless their faces were just inches apart.
"Mr. Wilson, you already have everything. There’s nothing I could possibly give you."
"You’re the only one who has something I’ve always wanted. That’ll be my reward," Daniel said softly, then kissed her.
It was a brief kiss. He pulled away right after and walked off like he was trying to hide a guilty conscience.
Chantelle stood there, fuming, but she had no idea how to let it out.
"Mommy, do you love him?" Stephanie asked out of nowhere and her cheeks puffed up in protest.
Stephanie noticed that both her precious mom and brother had grown fond of Daniel, and it made her unhappy.
It felt like Daniel was slowly stealing them away from her.
Chantelle crouched down to her level and looked her in the eyes. "Are you upset about that, Steph?"
Stephanie’s eyes were red, but she pretended to stay tough and looked away. "As long as you’re happy, I’m happy too."
"Steph, you don’t have to worry. Mommy and your brothers will always be your family. No one can change that or take it away from us," Chantelle said, hugging her tight and kissing her chubby cheeks.
Stephanie’s pout quickly turned into a big smile.
"I love you the most, Mommy."
Of course, her mommy understands her. Unlike Daniel, who just kept calling her "baby" and giving her toys she didn’t even want.
Stephanie didn’t see herself as someone who could be won over with a few toys.
"Steph, lend me your drone," Kane called out, peeking his head from the room.
Stephanie quickly jumped down from Chantelle’s arms and ran after him. "Kane! You’re dead if you touch my stuff!"
"But didn’t you say you hate all those toys Daddy bought? It’s a waste not to use them!"
"Who said that..." Stephanie stopped talking the moment she saw Daniel nearby. Without another word, she threw something at Kane’s legs.
Kane slipped and crashed into an antique vase.
There was a loud crash. The vase shattered into pieces.
"Th-That vase was a treasure from ancient times..." Philip held his head, looking completely heartbroken.
Then, more crashes followed. The drone Kane had been flying zoomed straight into a cabinet filled with antique vases. One by one, they fell and smashed all over the floor.
"Two million dollars, ten million, eight million, six hundred million..." Philip patted his chest, secretly thankful he hadn’t insisted on bringing Chantelle to his lab on the 87th floor.
Otherwise, his collection would’ve been the one smashed all over the floor.
Daniel walked in after hearing the noise. His face turned stiff when he saw the mess of broken vases everywhere.
"Daddy, it wasn’t me, it was Steph, she..." Kane pointed his finger toward his sister.
Even though Daniel treated him well most of the time, Kane knew he’d still get punished if he messed up.
Daniel’s idea of punishment was sending him to kindergarten and making him sit through boring lessons. Then came the homework, which Kane absolutely hated.
He just wanted to borrow the drone and play for a bit. But somehow, it turned on while he was still inside. He was sure Stephanie had something to do with it.
However, when Kane saw Stephanie’s teary eyes, he quickly changed his tune. "Daddy, it was my fault!"
Daniel looked at him, clearly unhappy. "You should take responsibility for your own actions. Why would you blame your sister? Don’t you realize how hurt Steph would feel if you accused her of something she didn’t do?"
Kane was utterly speechless. He gave up and let his dad decide his fate.
There was really nothing he could do. Anyone who saw Stephanie would end up taking her side.
Back in Carcosa, even the scary and powerful Trenton would back down the moment Stephanie started pulling her little tricks.
"I’ll go do my homework now," Kane muttered. He put down the remote and walked back to his room with a gloomy face.
"Steph, don’t worry. I’m not upset with you," Daniel said, trying to comfort her.
Stephanie sniffled, then turned around without a word and walked away. She didn’t want to talk to him.
Earlier, she had overheard the maids saying that those antiques were bought by Kate. Daniel kept them as memories. But thinking about how Kate used to hurt Chantelle made her fury.
Smashing those antiques was her way of venting her anger.
She didn’t plan to break all of them. There were plenty of maids in the house. She thought at least one of them would stop the drone.
Stephanie had expected too much from the maids. No one among them came upstairs to stop the drone from causing all that damage.
Philip was secretly thrilled by what he had just seen. He couldn’t believe how Daniel was being treated today.
Daniel couldn’t handle Chantelle. He couldn’t handle the kids either.
"What’s so funny?" Daniel suddenly shot him a sharp look.
Philip quickly waved his hands. "I had nothing to do with this! Wait for me, Princess Steph!"
