Chapter 278: Chapter 278: Let’s Have Breakfast Together

When Daniel got back to Western Hill Villa, Chantelle was already there. Calvin had brought her back while she was still asleep.

"Ms. Chantelle was on her way to visit Ms. Thea’s clothing store, but she fell asleep before getting there," Calvin explained.

Calvin was used to handling situations like this. He brought Chantelle back to the villa and gave her the medicine Philip had made.

"Don’t let anyone find out about her condition," Daniel said as he sat by the bed, watching her sleep.

"Yes," Calvin replied. He already understood how serious this was. If anyone discovered what was happening to Chantelle, they might use it against her or against Daniel.

Other than Philip, Ashton, Calvin, and Russell, no one else knew about her sudden sleep issue.

After Calvin left, Daniel went to the bathroom to clean up. Then, he lay down beside Chantelle and gently pulled her into his arms.

It was the only way Daniel could feel that Chantelle was still with him.

"Chantelle, I won’t let anything happen to you."

When Chantelle opened her eyes, she saw her three little kids resting their chins in their hands. They were blinking at her.

"Mommy, you’re awake?"

"Mommy, do you want some water?"

"Mommy, are you hungry?"

The kids all spoke at once, asking their questions.

Chantelle laughed softly. She reached out and patted each of their heads. "I’m okay. I’m getting up now. Can you wait outside for a bit?"

"Mommy, we’ll stay by the door. Just call us if you need us," Railer said. He didn’t usually act this clingy, and Chantelle’s heart melted slightly when she heard his words.

Kane puffed up his chest. "Mommy, I’ll guard the door for you. I won’t let anyone come in!"

Chantelle smiled and pinched his cheek. "Wow, look at you! You’ve grown up into a brave little knight."

"Mommy, that guy made a lot of food. He worked really hard. Let’s go eat it," Stephanie said as she pulled Chantelle’s hand.

Her voice sounded proud, but her eyes were a little red.

Chantelle glanced at the clock. It was already past ten.

"You didn’t eat breakfast?" she asked, clearly upset.

The kids looked away and avoided her eyes. Then Kane grabbed Railer and Stephanie and ran away.

"Hurry, Mommy! Daddy’s been waiting for a long time!" he shouted.

Chantelle shook her head with a faint smile. She didn’t expect Daniel to be the one who cooked. She even wondered if the kitchen was still okay.

While she washed up, she looked at herself in the mirror. Her face looked pale. A wave of fear rose in her chest.

She hadn’t been afraid of dying since six years ago. But now, she didn’t want to leave her children behind. They were so sweet and loved her deeply. She was scared they might suffer if she was gone.

Lately, she noticed she was falling asleep more often. She could tell Daniel and the kids were trying to hide it from her. They acted like it was just normal sleep.

However, Chantelle knew better. If this kept happening, she might not have much time left.

Suddenly, a handsome face showed up in the mirror. Daniel held her cold hands in his warm ones. He hugged her from behind and rested his chin on her shoulder. His voice was gentle.

"Chantelle, it’s time to eat."

Chantelle felt a strange sense of comfort. She turned around, pushed him away, and walked out of the bathroom.

"Mr. Wilson, please respect my space. Don’t enter my room without permission."

Chantelle still sounded distant and cold, but her voice wasn’t harsh. There was a faint trace of warmth behind it that she didn’t even notice.

"Don’t be mad. I won’t come in without asking your permission next time. Besides, you always end up in my room at night anyway," Daniel said with a sly smile and a shrug.

Chantelle’s face turned red. She gave him a sharp look and walked out. She couldn’t argue with him as she really did have a habit of sleepwalking.

"Mommy, hurry! Time to eat!" Kane called out, pulling her to the dining table.

Chantelle looked at the food, then turned to Daniel with a doubtful look. "You made all this?"

Before he could answer, she walked straight into the kitchen.

It looked almost like the Ogrialand battlefield.

The maid in charge of cleaning stood at the kitchen door. She looked helpless, completely unsure of how to deal with the mess.

"Uh... your kitchen’s not in the best shape. I’ll get someone to fix it up," Daniel said, rubbing his nose as he gently pulled Chantelle back toward the dining room.

"Come on, Chantelle. Try what I made." He lightly pressed on her shoulders, making her sit down. Then he picked up some vegetables and placed them on her plate.

Was this... an eggplant?

Chantelle looked puzzled. It was eggplant, for sure. It was cooked... but didn’t look safe to eat.

Daniel stared at her with hopeful eyes. Chantelle calmly set her fork down. "I’m afraid I’ll get poisoned."

"You have to trust me. Whatever I do, I can do it well," Daniel said confidently.

Chantelle glanced at her kids, hoping they’d back her up. But they all kept their heads down, pretending to be busy with their pudding.

So, a mother’s love didn’t even compare to a piece of eggplant.

"I don’t want to eat it," Chantelle said as she looked at the eggplant, completely losing her appetite.

"Chantelle, do you want this kitchen set?" Daniel nodded at the maid, who brought over a tablet.

The screen showed a beautiful set of kitchen utensils that most women would like.

Chantelle didn’t enjoy cooking. Her skills were about the same as Daniel’s. She couldn’t even make pancakes like he did. Still, she wanted a nice set like that.

"And look at this tableware too," Daniel said as he swiped to the next image.

Chantelle’s eyes lit up when she saw the white jade tableware. She really wanted those beautiful kitchen items.

"If you don’t want to eat, that’s okay," Daniel said. "You can just give me a kiss. That’ll make me forget how sad I feel after working hard all morning and getting rejected by my honey."

Chantelle couldn’t take it anymore when he called her "honey."

"Fine, I’ll eat it," she said, closing her eyes. She picked up the eggplant and moved it toward her mouth.

Just then, Philip burst in with messy hair. "I’m starving! Got anything to eat?"

He saw all the food on the table, grabbed a fork, and started eating right away.
