The social event went on for hours before it ended in the evening.

The Alphas and their companions were led to the guests’ mansions, which were built outside the royal mansion and were guarded by some of the shadows’ pack warriors, as we couldn’t trust them.

By royal mansion, I mean the Alpha’s mansion, the Luna’s mansion and so on.

I was heading to the Luna’s mansion. I needed to freshen up.

"Alpha Anastasia!".

I halted and turned to the person who shouted my name, and behold, I saw Aunt Penelope and the eleven elders walking towards me. Ever since I proposed the competition to the Alphas, the expression on their faces turned very vexed and pale.

I was happy that they didn’t hide their frustrations when we were in the grand hall. Their reactions made my trap look quite convincing. The Alphas must have agreed to join the competition because, after seeing the faces of the elders, they were sure that I was crazy and didn’t know what I was doing.

"Alpha Anastasia, what was the meaning of that nonsense back there? Although you are the chosen child, that doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want!".

"Elder Penelope, lower your voice. The walls have ears. We do not want to mistakenly let outsiders know that the chosen child has been born already in the shadows’ pack like the prophecy foretold. Those with evil intentions might take her away. According to the prophecy, it says that the chosen child would bring a bright energy to the entire world. But she has not yet awakened her true powers, so we don’t know what she’s capable of doing. If she falls into the wrong hands, the entire world might be in chaos". One of the elders said to my Aunt Penelope.

"So what if they know, elder Griffin?! Earlier, she told everybody that she had changed, but she’s as brainless as ever!". Aunt Penelope snapped, and the veins in her neck popped out. She massaged her temples and breathed deeply, before she added, "Alpha Anastasia, you must take back your words. Tomorrow, please tell the other Alphas that the competition is not going to happen. Also, for peace to reign, you can compensate them".

"I am not going to do that, Elder Penelope. If that is all, I am taking my leave". I told her and went away. I didn’t look at them as I left. Sooner or later, they will understand my good intentions.

None of those Alphas are worthy of becoming the shadows’ pack allies.

After I win the competition and the ten Alphas grant me the deal I want, I will secretly strengthen the shadows’ pack, so that we will be prepared to defend our territory in the far future.

I arrived outside the Luna’s mansion. Before I could step inside, Damien came from behind and stood in front of me.

"Alpha, why did you do that? That was so reckless of you. Did you become the Alpha just so you could behave recklessly?". He asked me.

’Beta Damien is our Beta Wolf, Clara. He is the closest werewolf to the alpha. He was my late father’s most trusted werewolf. I think you should explain some things to him, so that he won’t be doubtful of you’. Elektra said to me.

My red eyes fixed on Damien’s purple eyes as I thought about what Elektra said to me. This time, Elektra was right. I should explain some things to Damien, so that even if the other werewolves are against me, he would stand by my side.

I kept a poker face when I said to him, "Before I became the shadows’ pack Alpha, you told me that the purpose of the social event was to bring other werewolf packs together and form a bond with the genuine ones. You equally told me that out of the ten werewolf packs, three of them are our allies. But I want you to understand that you are wrong. Didn’t you see the greedy faces of the Alphas after I proposed the competition to them and told them that I would grant each of them a deal if they won? Beta Damien, I am sure you noticed at that moment that not a single one of them could be our shadows’ pack true or genuine allies".

I added, "Additionally, those three allies you thought were our allies. I figured out why they agreed to become our allies. They only agreed to become our allies because my father promised to give them one of our gold mines. And I am aware that if they mined enough gold, it would be only a short time before they would attack our pack. Luckily, they are not the official owners of the gold mine because they haven’t signed any official documents".

"Instead of giving out bribes in order to form an ally, wouldn’t it be best for us to strengthen our warriors with our best resources? Look, our pack should become strong, or even stronger than the Lycan king, who could single-handedly defeat half of the werewolf packs". I stopped talking and waited for Damien’s reply.

I am prepared if he tells me he was against my decision.

"I noticed that too. But what’s the purpose of the competition? How sure are you that you will win? You are currently weak. And even if you leave the hunting competition for Elektra, you awakened her recently, so she is not mature enough or strong enough. Neither of you would stand a chance of winning the competition".

I was surprised because of Damien’s reply. He wasn’t entirely against my decision.

"I will win, Beta Damien. I have a plan that will not fail. As for the purpose of the competition, after I win, the ten Alphas will grant me my deal by swearing a blood oath with me and promising not to..."

"You want to make them swear a blood oath and promise not to attack our pack for the next ten years". Beta Damien completed my words, and I smirked.

For your understanding, this oath was established by the first ever werewolves.

Thousands of years ago, after the villagers became werewolves, a terrifying war began because of the power struggle between the werewolves. Each werewolf wanted to be the supreme ruler of the entire pack. That was until the eleven Alphas made an agreement and came together. They established the blood oath under the full moon, in order to control the breakout of war.

Any werewolf who breaks the oath before the said ten years without war is over, will face the heavens’ tribulations and be punished.

Let’s say if two werewolf packs were at odds with each other, they could both come to an agreement and swear the blood oath not to attack each other for ten years.

But, mine is going to be different, of course.

After I win the competition, I plan to make all ten Alphas swear the ten-year blood oath without war, with me. I knew they wouldn’t dare refuse to grant that deal to me if I won the competition. If not, they would be called cowards for backing away.

I knew that before the ten-year blood oath would be over, the shadows’ pack would have become undefeatable.

Not only that, I will have become stronger by then and might relocate to the human city.

I will not abandon my heartbroken parents when I am still alive!
