Moonlight Betrayal-Chapter 81
Chapter 81: Chapter 81
Chapter 81
Astrid’s POV
"Come on, don’t think about it too much. I’m sure it’s nothing." Rebecca said to me.
"Now, tell me all about this plan you have for my idiot brother’s birthday." She said with a smile on her face.
I returned her smile and launched into the plans for everything and how everyone is willing to keep it a secret from Kaeleen even Lila. I was just realising that Lila loved surprises. And she was a good ally to have when you wanted to do a surprise.
"Awwn, I love this. Kaeleen doesn’t like doing big celebrations for his birthday. He’d rather do something else but he’s not going to know what hit him the time and there is no way he is going to be mad at you for doing this." She tells me. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
"Are you sure?" I asked her.
"Yup. And besides if he tries anything just know I have your back. Serena also."
I give her a smile and pick up my apple. We eat in silence for a while before she speaks up again.
"Um...I’m going to see Serena and Hunter soon. Maybe the day after tomorrow, I’ll make time but I just wanted to tell you, you know...in case you wanted to come with?" She asked me.
"I haven’t met Hunter. I don’t know who he is."
"He’s a big Teddy bear and besides, Kaeleen is like a younger brother to him. I’m sure he’s dying to meet you and he would have if not for what happened." she assured me
"Are you sure?" I asked her.
I didn’t want it to be a situation where I was intruding. It didn’t matter that Rebecca had been the one to invite me, she wasn’t the one with an I’ll spouse.
"How about I ask Serena?" She asked me.
"What?" I asked her like she had just grown two heads.
Rebecca laughed at my reaction. "Really, it’s no big deal. Apart from the fact that she gets a bit territorial over Hunter and that she treats Kaeleen and me like her kids, she’s okay. She’s a pretty chill person."
I’ve met Serena only once and true to what Rebecca was saying, she appeared pretty chill to me. But that wasn’t enough to reassure me. Although, knowing Rebecca, I wouldn’t be able to escape this and she wouldn’t take no for an answer.
"Alright. But just know if she doesn’t like me being there, then I’m putting all the blame on you." I grumbled.
Rebecca paused, giving me a look. She blinked once, twice before throwing her head back and laughing loudly. I stared at her with a frown. Did I do something wrong? Was that why she had given me that look?
"Oh my," she said, wiping non-existent tears from her eyes. "I love this side of you. Don’t ever hide it again."
"What?"
"You’ve always been quiet. I mean since I’ve known you although it’s a short while but you’ve always been quiet. You hardly disagree with people. It’s like you want to make yourself disappear most times and you hardly crack a smile or even grumble. But this," she motioned at me. "This is different. I reckon this is how you really are and not the demure person I met before."
I gave her a frown. "All because of a little sentence?" I asked.
She shook her head. "It’s more than that. It’s the expression. It’s...it’s everything actually. No one is going to force you to be someone else here, let’s forget your deadbeat sister, no offence."
"None taken. Rather than deadbeat, bitch will be the accurate word but I don’t curse." I told her with a smirk.
Rebecca stared at me with an open mouth. "You’ve been spending too much time with my brother. And bitch is a curse word also."
I finished the apple and Rebecca opened a box of pizza.
"Want one?" She asked me.
"Don’t you have work to do?"
"I do but I’ll be taking a break soon. Like a long break to spend more time with my family. Most days I don’t get to see Alex because of traveling and Alex is also a busy person. I don’t want to not have the opportunity to not spend time with my family. Instead of putting my work first, I’m putting my family first." She said with a smile.
I gave her a nod. That’s admirable. I could only imagine the bulk of work she had to do as a senator. And I could understand because of how much influence Rebecca has on the citizens, especially women. She has fought for a lot of us putting her words into action. If there was someone I aspired to be like, it was Rebecca.
Just then, Shadow walked into the room, stopping short when he saw me.
"I didn’t know our Luna was here." He said as he took a piece of pizza.
"Ugh. Shadow," Rebecca said with a hand to her nose. "You stink. You smell like sex."
He winked. "That’s because I just had some."
"Freshen up before you come into my office. The smell. What the fuck did you guys do?" She groaned.
I frowned. "Shadow does smell of sex but just a little." I said as I took a sniff.
"It’s the hormones." Shadow said. "It heightened her ability to detect smells. A major cockblocker for me."
"You are supposed to be guarding me, to be my shadow. Not have sex on duty." Rebecca argued.
"But you have another guard. What’s Gideon going to think when you only consider me your guard?" He asked her with a cheeky smile, putting the half eaten pizza in his mouth.
"I consider both of you my guard but he’ll, I can protect myself. Alex is just being paranoid." Rebecca said.
I turned to Shadow at that point. This was something that has been going through my brain for some time now. "I want to learn how to fight or rather, I want to remember what it feels like to fight."
Shadow and Rebecca turned to me with wide eyes. "You what?"
