Monsters Die When Killed-Chapter 65 - 39: A Class Academy (3)
But the ranked officers present remained utterly silent, waiting for the next directive.
More text appeared on the screen in a formal script.
[The Thirty-Six Saints Central Committee has decided to establish one to four additional special A Class Academies in Celestial State’s Celestial Capital, or elsewhere in the nation. These will govern and handle all Transcendent personnel and related matters nationwide.]
[The Zhengguo National Security Bureau will soon be merged into this new institution, and all of you present will be the core founding members of the newly established Academy.]
The room erupted.
And that wasn’t all.
「Zhengguo, Hongzhou, Hongcheng. Hongcheng Criminal Justice Department Headquarters.」
"Recently, many strange incidents have occurred in the city."
In the conference room, Inspector Su Beiluo of the Hongcheng Criminal Justice Department’s Second Major Crimes Division pointed to a large screen flashing with images. His tone was grave. "You may already be aware of these," he said, "but I’m going to review them one more time." 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
"August 1st, in the southern He’an District: the corpse of a ’human-faced cat’."
"August 2nd, near Chigu Beach Bridge: the corpse of a ’regressed Terror Bird’."
"August 3rd, in an alley by the IKEA Mall in the city’s west: the flattened, smashed remains of six ’giant venomous purple dragonflies’."
The slideshow flashed through a series of classified images that could never be released to the public: a grotesque cat with the face of an old man; a pigeon with fangs like a pterosaur’s and feathered, bat-like wings; and the remains of six colossal dragonflies, each half the size of a person.
Inspector Su’s gaze was sharp, but his expression remained relatively calm. As the next images appeared, however, his tone turned grim. "That’s not all," he said. "Look."
On the screen was the mangled corpse of a Giant.
A massive, bloated corpse drifted in the river, dead for who-knows-how-many days. Its head had been burst open by some unknown means, and what should have been an expression of pure malice now looked strangely serene.
A desiccated zombie, halfway out of the ground, its spine shattered by a tree branch before it could fully emerge.
Another...
"These are no ordinary cases!" The towering Su Beiluo’s voice was so loud it seemed to rattle the glass, booming through the room. "According to Professor Zhang Fucheng, all of them—the human-faced cats, the pseudo-Dragon Birds, that floating corpse, the half-risen zombie—are Awakened Evil Spirits. They should have caused widespread chaos."
"But before they could make a move, these Evil Spirits were all eliminated—and Purified—by a mysterious entity."
"Who exactly finished them off? I’m sure everyone here is well aware."
In truth, everyone in the room knew exactly who had been one step ahead of the authorities, dispatching these terrifying Evil Spirits.
—The unknown Transcendent who had suddenly become active after destroying the Wood Centipede. Official codename: ’11’. Local codename: ’the Demon Hunter’!
Confirming the reaction of his audience, Su Beiluo scanned the conference hall, his tone solemn. "Chief Patrol Officer Wang Zheng’s First Major Crimes Division and Daoist Master Zhang Fucheng are currently hunting that bizarre, head-taking Demon or Evil. Our mission, however, is quite simple."
"Our orders from above are clear. Those scattered, weaker Evil Spirits are nothing compared to our ’friend’ here who’s been playing vigilante on our behalf."
"We are to use every resource at our disposal. We need to find this Transcendent, this ’Demon Hunter,’ as quickly as possible."
