Miss Witch Doesn't Want to be a Diva-Chapter 1642 - 89: The Gaps Between Worlds
Riding in a military heavy shuttle, Biao Xing and his companions landed on this land full of ochre rocks.
"I checked the situation in this area, let’s go take a look over here." Kuman took out a record board and projected a map, showing a small town in the wilderness.
"I have no objections."
"Alright then." The others agreed casually, and Biao Xing also echoed, as it wasn’t something he particularly cared about where to go.
The group traveled across the wilderness in a hovering off-road vehicle, kicking up clouds of dust, and arrived at their destination in just a few minutes.
"Phew, what a dump." Wade jumped out of the car and whistled.
Next was Misa, who prepared to assist Que Lin, but the girl jumped down from the other side, rejecting his help.
At this, Wade shook his head, thinking that Misa’s pursuit plans were likely doomed.
"So, what do you think? It’s quite unique, right?" After parking the car, Kuman emerged.
"Very cool~" Wade gave a thumbs up, complimenting Captain Kuman on his wise choice.
"I’ll find you a guide, just have fun today, don’t worry about the expenses on the road." Kuman said with a smile.
"Aren’t you coming, Kuman?" Biao Xing was surprised.
"I’ll pass. I’m getting old; I just want to find a bar, have a nice drink, and take a rest." He waved, saying that it’s more interesting for the younger ones to play together.
Then the group split up, with Biao Xing and the other three companions getting into the guide’s car, while Kuman stayed behind and waved them off.
When he saw them disappear down the dust-laden streets, Kuman lowered his hand, looked at the sky, adjusted the hat on his head, and brushed his mottled nails behind his ear. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
’All going smoothly.’ The voice was so low that probably only he could hear it.
Soon, a slight electric crackling sound came, then he lowered his hand and walked towards a certain place in the city.
...
On the other side, Tilan and Prin climbed a hill in this city’s deserted outskirts with the guide.
"Here is the signal tower, left from the Fourth Era. The valuable equipment inside was already emptied long ago, but the shell is interesting, and there are many tourists’ messages inside, let me show you." A short, brown-skinned female guide introduced, leading them along.
"A building from the Fourth Era..."
Tilan’s gaze swept across the surroundings; the remaining steel frame stairs should have been replaced and repaired later, but the bulging bubbles and broken rust on the surface showed considerable wear.
The hot wind occasionally blew from the far side of the mountain, rustling Tilan’s dress, making a light and cheerful sound as she followed Prin up the steps.
The three of them circled up the stairs along the perimeter of the signal tower, and as they ascended, the view became more expansive. When they finally stood on the small platform at the top of the signal tower, they could overlook the city not far below.
The place originally intended for housing signal tower equipment had long been emptied, but the special steel structure left behind was covered in layers of chaotic paint and numerous commemorative inscriptions.
1092, Amisha and Buge came here and fell in love.
728, a meteor shower fell over this small town’s sky; Yi Lian and I watched it together.
349, Songstress ’Coffee-Eyed Cat’ Momolu released an album, had to write it down.
815, so sad, Federation is a mess.
102, today will be a good day.
521, I did it, built our own home in the desert (the founding day of Muka Town).
Many of the writings had long blurred, with some obscured by others, but luckily Tilan could make out the original meanings from some subtle traces.
Meanwhile, the guide stood by the railing, introducing the landscape to Prin. Although it appeared ordinary, the guide surprisingly knew a lot, probably thanks to countless predecessors’ summaries.
"The earliest signal towers were used for guiding landing ships; back then, there wasn’t anything as convenient as a star harbor."
"Fourth Era, huh? Indeed, quite an ancient time."
"By the way, I’ve got a video here, it’s a local legacy, would you two like to watch it?" The guide pulled out a memory chip, faded and worn, from her pocket.
"What’s this?" Prin took it, flipping it over to examine.
"It’s left by the earliest exploration fleet that landed on this planet, later preserved by the local museum, then copied and preserved widely. Now you can find some online too." The guide opened her personal terminal, playing the projected image inside.
In the dark sea of stars, a blue planet stood out, and then the view steadily zoomed in, entering the Earth’s atmosphere...
A line of white text appeared in front of the view.
Year 27 of the Fourth Era, Dragon Ridge Mountain Range launch site.
A space ship was fixed on a massive rocket, with secondary rockets for assistance attached to its sides. This towering giant stood on the ground, dwarfing the surrounding hills.
The countdown to ignition echoed in the air, voices in a noisy environment reading out.
10, 8, 7...4, 3, 2, 1, launch!
A plume of smoke and fire burst from the rocket base, and then the rocket body and the spacecraft started to slowly lift off amidst vibrations and tremors, breaking free from the immense gravitational pull.
"For long, humankind has been frolicking in this cradle called Earth."
"However, the era of humans leaving Earth and entering the vast universe has arrived."
The rocket gradually rose, its tail flames burning to white-hot intensity, and a long contrail of smoke filled the valley. As it left the launch pad, this seemingly ordinary steel construct seemed to take on a sacred meaning, embodying both hope and fear, shattering the curse that had confined humankind to Earth.
