Mercenary's War-Chapter 2120 - 2097: Tiger
Can’t save the damned, but those not damned will survive.
The burly man’s actions reminded Gao Yang of a saying: a tiger entering a flock of sheep.
It’s not a wolf entering a flock of sheep, but a striped fierce tiger diving straight into the flock, causing the sheep to scatter and flee.
"This is unreasonable."
Phoenix, shooting away, suddenly exclaimed and then stopped firing. Gao Yang followed suit, "Yes, this is abnormal."
"When you’ve been in it long enough, you truly encounter all sorts of things."
Cui Bo sighed and then smiled bitterly, "Such a scene, truly, not even in my dreams. Occasionally I fantasize about charging into enemy ranks like a war god, scattering them in chaos, but that’s a cold weapon battle, you know what I mean? Like in ancient times being an invincible Great General, but thinking about this now, it’s too unrealistic."
The burly man charged straight towards the enemy’s truck. The truck was parked on the road, centered around it, there had to be thirty or forty people nearby, mostly infantry, some were gunner operators for mortars. And those gunners had guns on their shoulders, yet seeing a lone burly man charge towards them, they merely shot symbolically and then retreated.
A reckless person lost in madness firing a machine gun recklessly, managed to scatter a whole platoon of people. Such an incident is not often encountered.
However, such things can happen. In 1918, during WWI, an American named Alvin York, using just a rifle, wiped out a German Army machine gun team, and then with an M1911A1 pistol captured 132 German Soldiers.
When Huaxia fought India, three Cook Soldiers from Huaxia heard gunfire nearby and actively joined the battle, ending up capturing a battalion commander along with dozens of soldiers.
So the burly man’s actions weren’t extraordinarily rare. At least there were precedents, and considering psychological factors, unseen and untouchable, anything is possible in battle. But a miracle is a miracle precisely because it happens so infrequently. After all, one person chasing thirty or forty like chickens is still considered a miracle.
Unfortunately, that burly man’s machine gun was truly terrible, extremely rotten. Holding the gun, firing while running, all you could see was a crowd running, yet none fell.
"Capture them, idiot! Capture them! Make them put down their guns and capture them!"
Gao Yang started running forward, shouting as he ran, but the burly man kept firing, sprinting after them violently, unable to hear.
Those running resembled headless flies, dozens had scattered already. The burly man, stubborn to a fault, chased two relentlessly, machine gun rattling occasionally, yet couldn’t catch up or hit them.
Finally, the two escaping side by side split, each running right and left without a word.
Gao Yang watched as the burly man stopped, raised his gun, and finally managed to shoot one down.
One was shot dead, the machine gun belt ran out, the burly man had another belt around his neck but showed no interest in reloading, dumping the machine gun and sprinting after the other.
The burly man and the fleeing one ran in circles, Gao Yang sprinted in a straight line, raised his gun intending to drop the fleeing infantry. But seeing the gap between the burly man and the fleeing soldier shrink, he hesitated, chose not to shoot, and instead hid in a safe spot, aiming at the fleeing soldier.
Gao Yang didn’t shoot, watching as the burly man finally caught up, thrust his hand forward, knocking the fleeing soldier down hard.
Like a big truck that can’t stop easily, the burly man charged ahead, paused, then returned, reaching out to grab the soldier struggling to get up, fist ready to punch.
"Don’t kill me! Please don’t kill me, I don’t want to die."
The captured soldier seemed in his twenties. In militias, age spans widely, from teens up to sixty or seventy. But in Government Forces, normal active duty age spans mostly ten to twentyish.
The burly man grabbed the soldier who seemed young, whose face showed terror, crying out loudly. The burly man raised his fist but didn’t let it fall, glaring at the person in his grasp, fist held as he pondered.
"Put him down! Take back your machine gun, hurry back, F**k! You fool, aren’t you leaving before it’s too late!"
Gao Yang raised his gun, vigilantly scanning around, loudly beckoning the burly man. The burly man lowered his fist, saw Gao Yang, panted a few breaths, then said sheepishly, "Sir, why are you here?"
There’s a good few dozen meters in between, so shouting was necessary. Hearing the burly man’s voice, Gao Yang yelled angrily, "Stop shouting!"
Speeding up to stand before the burly man, Gao Yang whispered, "Idiot! Don’t call me Sir, and don’t salute me. Either kill him, or take him back as a prisoner, aren’t you leaving before it’s too late?"
The burly man whispered, "Oh."
"What do you mean oh! Move!"
"Oh."
The burly man lowered his fist, holding the terrified young soldier with his left hand, pointing with his right to two mortar guns hitched to trucks in the distance. "I want to destroy those two guns before heading back."
Gao Yang exhaled, whispered, "Drive the truck back, and we can seize two guns. Idiot! Hurry, we’ll drive back, much quicker that way."
About a hundred meters to the trucks with mortars, Gao Yang was about to run over, but seeing the burly man unmoved, he grumbled irritably, "What are you standing there for? Move."
"Oh, but I can’t drive."
"The guy you’re holding can drive! Make him drive, watch him! If he doesn’t comply, squeeze the life out of him, grab your machine gun quickly!"
Now Gao Yang didn’t care about twenty thousand US dollars, but he couldn’t ignore guns being tossed away. Even if capturing two mortars didn’t serve him, he was reluctant to destroy them. Dragging them back even if not his, he had to find a way to bring them along; a kind of occupational hazard.
The grabbed soldier shouted immediately, "I can drive! I can drive, don’t kill me, I’ll drive you there, I surrender, I’ve surrendered!"
