Mercenary's War-Chapter 2119 - 2096: Charging Into the Enemy Ranks
For Gao Yang, picking up any gun and doing the job is no problem at all.
Both the official government forces and the militia have stable defense lines, with a buffer zone about a kilometer wide, so initially there’s no need to worry too much about encountering the enemy while pursuing.
After sprinting forward several hundred meters, Gao Yang shouted to a few soldiers guarding behind a house, "Did you see a big guy running past?"
An older man pointed in a direction and shouted, "Are you talking about Yuri? We saw him. What’s up? We called him, but he ignored us; didn’t even have time to stop him."
War is a serious thing; the position you’re responsible for defending cannot be abandoned without orders, even if the sky falls. Leaving without permission during an enemy attack risks them penetrating through a gap. When the enemy is about to attack, the people guarding here definitely can’t stop the furious big guy.
Gao Yang paused and shouted, "His dog was blown up by the enemy."
"Snow White was blown up? Damn it, damn it!"
Gao Yang nodded and said, "Are you the boss here? Do you know where the enemy’s mortars are located?"
"The area ahead is occupied by the enemy, about a kilometer. I haven’t located the enemy mortars, but it sounds like they’re over there. Yuri was heading in that direction too."
"Got it, goodbye."
After a brief inquiry, Gao Yang gestured, and the four continued to run forward.
"Found him! Where is he?"
Phoenix shouted, pointing out a location. Gao Yang looked over and saw the big man turning back from the front, then starting to run sideways.
Once out of town into the rural area, it’s obviously farmland, which has the problem of being wide open with good visibility. If it’s full of tall crops like corn, it’s okay, but most of the fields currently have low wheat or are simply fallow, making the huge man’s figure conspicuously visible among the fields.
"Approximately eight hundred meters in a straight line; what’s he trying to do, running parallel to the enemy’s line? F**k! That damn fool, he’s doomed!"
After speaking rapidly, Gao Yang watched the big man make another turn, charging straight toward the enemy’s position.
Of course, the enemy can’t be seen in the deadlocked battlefield zone where snipers thrive, which is why everyone must stay behind houses or in trenches; moving overtly would make you a target.
Having approached the enemy’s line, looking around all there are shrubs, fruit trees, and farmland, but deadly threats hide within them.
Gao Yang hesitated and said, "That big guy isn’t dead yet; there should be no snipers here. Let’s follow, get a little closer for a look, spread out, stay alert, and retreat if there’s danger."
After speaking, Gao Yang waved his hand, and the four continued pursuing.
While running, Gao Yang observed: after about a month of training, Lilia had finally moved past the stage of battlefield fodder. At least now she knows how to lower her body and advance in zigzag lines, while continually observing.
As for Phoenix, there’s no need to say much. She’s a veteran; apart from her gender being different, she is indistinguishable from any competent veteran. Even her long hair is tied under her hat, trying not to stand out from the others. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
After sprinting another several hundred meters forward, Gao Yang again saw the big man’s figure; he seemed to be searching for something, zigzagging wildly.
"There are no enemies? That’s highly unusual. Why isn’t he dead yet?"
The big man had reached the enemy’s position, yet no one had fired at him, which was truly abnormal.
Finally, things started to make sense.
Someone opened fire; the big man, hugging a machine gun, continued running. Although the gunshots rang out continuously, the big man kept running and jumping, surprisingly untouched.
"The enemy is to his right!"
Gao Yang shouted, as Phoenix quickly followed up, "Shall we provide support?"
"Support!"
The distance was still far; Gao Yang’s automatic rifle range wasn’t sufficient, but upon receiving his command, Phoenix immediately opened fire.
She lay down on the ground, adjusted her scope, and quickly fired a shot, then adjusted slightly and fired a second shot.
"Hit."
A sniper able to provide quick support; impressive.
Snipers are varied; some can offer protective cover, while others excel at lurking for ages to deliver a deadly shot. Not all can dash hundreds of meters and set up for rapid fire; everyone has their strengths and habits.
And Phoenix is the type of sniper Gao Yang likes, also the kind Satan needs.
Phoenix engaged in successive rapid shooting, her firing speed naturally couldn’t match Gao Yang’s, as she used a bolt-action rifle. Yet, for using a bolt-action rifle and long-range shooting, Phoenix’s speed was truly not slow, and her accuracy was very high.
The big man was also firing his machine gun while running, gripping it under his arm and blasting away while sprinting—if that manages to hit anything, it would be a miracle.
If Glolov is a Machine Gun Artist, then this big guy wouldn’t even qualify as an apprentice; he would be at best like a kindergarten child just learning to walk, only at a beginner level.
As for Lilia, she hadn’t even completed her aim, not fired a single shot.
"Have you found a target? Aim, just like I taught you, fire. Ah! Don’t rush, don’t rush, ease your breathing, adjust your mindset, calm down, aim at your target. Moving enemies are too challenging for you; find a stationary target."
Phoenix fired repeatedly, Lilia fumbling and unable to pull the trigger while Cui Bo anxiously coached her from beside; as a result, Lilia grew more nervous.
As for the big guy, he didn’t retreat but rather advanced toward the enemy.
There aren’t actually many people on the enemy’s line, only about the size of a squad. Although the big man’s machine gun isn’t effective, with Phoenix’s precise support on the side, he still hasn’t died.
"F**king hell! He’s charging toward the enemy. He really plans to bury himself with that dog."
Gao Yang was speechless. But at this moment, he knew why the big guy was rushing forward; there were two trucks over there.
The Vasilek mortar is too heavy to be dismantled like ordinary mortars and carried by several men, so mounting it on trucks for transport is most common.
The problem is, mortar teams are usually protected by infantry; the big guy charging ahead is literally heading into the enemy cluster.
