Mercenary's War-Chapter 2017 - 1994: Stop Talking So Much
In the early morning, the plane landed at a private airport in Portland. As Gao Yang stepped off the plane, he immediately spotted Morgan’s car parked at the edge of the runway.
As Gao Yang got off the plane, Simon, who was standing outside the car, waved at him first, then opened the car door. After bending slightly for a moment, Morgan slowly got out of the car and stood outside.
Morgan had lost a lot of weight and looked somewhat dispirited. After coming out of the car door, he waved at Gao Yang who was walking quickly toward him.
Gao Yang quickly walked to stand in front of Morgan, reached out to shake Morgan’s hand, and said in a low voice, "Why did you come personally?"
Morgan didn’t look well; his complexion was very gray, and upon closer inspection, it was evident he had indeed lost a lot of weight.
Morgan smiled and said, "I’m fine, you don’t need to worry about me. Knowing you’re bringing back a batch of good stuff, I couldn’t stay home and wait, so don’t misunderstand, I’m not here to greet you; I’m here to greet the cargo plane that’s about to arrive."
Gao Yang smiled and said quietly, "When will the cargo plane arrive?"
Morgan checked his watch and smiled, "At most, in half an hour. You need a plane to transport it; you’ve made quite a harvest this time. I can’t wait to see your collection because, as you said, I get to choose the guns I like, and there’s no limit. How can I miss out on such good fortune."
Gao Yang laughed and said, "Alright, you can pick first. Prepare to be amazed; Mr. Polonishenko’s collection is very extensive, truly extensive."
While speaking, Gao Yang glanced around and noticed that Morgan had increased the number of bodyguards.
Previously, when Morgan was in America, he had at most four to six attendants by his side. Besides a personal assistant and Simon, who were always with him, the other bodyguards were at most two, and sometimes he wouldn’t even bring one.
But today, Morgan had brought at least a dozen bodyguards, scattered in the surroundings.
The increase in the number of bodyguards naturally meant there were safety concerns. Gao Yang asked quietly, "Where’s Bob?"
Morgan smiled and said, "I’ve sent him to the ship in the Gulf of Aden; it’s safer there."
Gao Yang frowned slightly and asked quietly, "Did something happen?"
Morgan shook his head and said with a smile, "There’s no need to worry."
After exchanging a few words with Gao Yang, Morgan reached out his hand to Li Jinfang, greeted him with a smile, and then chatted a bit with Peter and Number Thirteen.
After they finished greeting, and once Li Jinfang and the others stood apart a bit, Morgan turned to Gao Yang and said, "I’m in the process of making a transition. It’s inevitable that it would be discovered; although I’ve been trying hard to seal the news of my illness, some people would still suspect what’s going on. Some are eager to fill the power vacuum that my departure would create, so things won’t be quiet during this period."
Gao Yang nodded, then sighed slightly and asked in a low voice, "Morgan, be honest with me, is your health really okay?"
Morgan smiled quietly and said, "According to my current condition, the doctors say I have three to five years left to live. That’s quite a long time already."
Gao Yang felt a bit uncomfortable. He shook his head slightly but didn’t know how to comfort Morgan, who appeared very optimistic and seemed indifferent to his own health condition.
Morgan sighed quietly and said, "Gao, you know I’m an invisible tycoon; people like us don’t have a clear-cut path to wealth. If one day it’s taken away, it’s quite normal. I’m not worried about these things; I’m worried about Bob. He will unavoidably become a target in the eyes of some people."
Gao Yang nodded, and Morgan continued, "No one knows that you’ll be my heir. For the parts that need to be separated, I’m trying to do it in a prudent and safe manner. For the parts that need to be handed over to you, receive them secretly for now. This will take time, but I believe you can handle it. As for Bob, it’s best that he stays on the ship in the Gulf of Aden for now; there everyone is trustworthy, the safest for now. Once we finish all the work and people know you’re my heir, then Bob will naturally be safe."
Gao Yang said quietly, "Bob is my friend; he’ll be very safe, so you can trust me."
Morgan smiled and said, "As a father, I don’t want Bob to spend his life in danger and stress like I have, so I never intended to cultivate Bob into a qualified successor. I only hope he can possess immense wealth and spend his life in a way he enjoys. Meanwhile, you get power and wealth accompanied by risks; it’s a father’s selfish act. I hope you won’t mind."
Gao Yang pouted, smiled, and said, "Am I not facing enough risks already?"
Morgan patted Gao Yang’s shoulder and said in a low voice, "We still have time; we can take things slow and do them more cautiously, as long as you don’t venture as a mercenary anymore, Gao."
Gao Yang scratched his head, doubtfully said, "I probably won’t. I’ve come back this time intending to work as a businessman, hopefully."
Morgan stopped discussing work and instead, with great interest, said, "So, in the upcoming collection, is there anything incredibly remarkable? Please tell me, I can hardly wait."
Gao Yang laughed, "Of course, but I’ve already sent over the recognizable fine items to you. Though there aren’t many, they are the exquisite pieces Mr. Polonishenko hid away. For the rest, I cannot discern them piece by piece mainly because I didn’t have time then."
Morgan was so eager, he was practically scratching his ears, impatiently hoping the plane would land right in front of him. Finally, after waiting for about twenty minutes at the airport, a medium-sized cargo plane landed on the runway.
Morgan was already impatient. When the cargo plane steadied, and the tail cabin door opened, Simon directed the accompanying bodyguards to move one long box at a time from the plane. Morgan said to Gao Yang eagerly, "Tell me, which parts are the ones I’m most interested in?"
Shava did an excellent job; all the guns were carefully wrapped and placed in wooden boxes, meticulously categorized. Standing beside the plane, Gao Yang observed the markings Shava made on the wooden boxes.
"Bring this box over, bring all the wooden boxes with black markings here."
After someone moved a box to Morgan, Simon immediately took a crowbar and pried open the wooden box. He removed the lid, took out an antique hunting gun from foam fragments, and Gao Yang handed the gun to Morgan with a smile, "Five guns in each box, all antique guns. There are both smoothbore and hunting guns; pick your favorites."
Morgan took the gun, and with an enthralled expression, said, "Exquisite! Truly a blissful moment, especially considering these guns are stolen by you; it adds a special thrill."
Gao Yang, resigned, said, "Just take what you like and spare the words."
