Medical and Martial God-Chapter 144: The Coffee Shop is Harassed
"Are you in or not?"
With a burning gaze, An Dongye stared at Ye Xiu. "If the two of us join forces, getting the Marrow Cleansing Pill will be a cinch. Once we have it, we can just flip it. Heh, then we’ll be set for life. Don’t worry, we’ll split the money sixty-forty. I get sixty, you get forty."
"How exactly do you plan to do it?" Ye Xiu asked.
An Dongye leaned close to his ear and whispered, "We go straight to the Yunxuan Auction Company and steal it." 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
"No," Ye Xiu refused flatly. "Stealing is beneath me."
A man has to have principles.
Even ten years ago, when he was on the brink of death from hunger and thirst, he had never stolen anything. He certainly wasn’t going to start now.
"Well, I’ll be. I didn’t take you for such a principled man, little brother," An Dongye said in surprise. "Suit yourself. I can pull this off on my own, even without your help. If you don’t come, don’t get jealous when I’m living the high life."
With that, she turned and left, her movements swift and decisive, without a moment’s hesitation.
Ye Xiu chuckled. What a girl, free as the wind. So carefree, though her intellect is a little lacking. If the Yunxuan Auction Company dares to auction the Marrow Cleansing Pill publicly, they must have taken precautions against theft. Besides, the entire area around the auction house is under martial law; the Red Flame Army and a large number of constables are lying in ambush. It’d be a miracle if she actually managed to steal it.
Still, worried that An Dongye might get taken out by a sniper, Ye Xiu discreetly followed her. However, he lost her the moment they left the Holy Peace Medical College.
This girl’s ability to shake a tail has to be the best in the world!
Resigned, Ye Xiu went to the coffee shop next to the Yunxuan Auction Company, planning to watch how things unfolded. He found the shop was already packed with all sorts of people, most of them carrying weapons. He also noticed that the moment he walked in, everyone shot him hostile looks.
Well then. No need to guess. This bunch is definitely here for the Marrow Cleansing Pill. The auction doesn’t start until nine tonight, and it’s not even four in the afternoon. What are they all doing crammed in a coffee shop?
"Are you also here for the Marrow Cleansing Pill auction?" a slick, powdered young man asked.
"Idiot!" a sharp-chinned, monkey-faced old man with a longsword on his table sneered. "He’s not armed, so he’s obviously not a Martial Artist. And look at his clothes—all cheap junk. How could a pauper like him attend the auction? He probably can’t even afford the deposit. You can’t even see that? Are your eyes just for decoration?"
After hearing the old man’s analysis, the others in the coffee shop seemed to agree it made sense. Only the waitress’s eyes burned with excitement. As a native of Jin Ye City, she recognized Ye Xiu instantly and secretly scorned the old man for being blind to the great man right in front of him.
"Hey, kid! This young master is talking to you! You got cotton in your ears?" the young man snapped. Having his question exposed as idiotic—and then being publicly called an idiot by the old man—had cost him all his face. He didn’t dare provoke the old man, so he vented his fury on Ye Xiu instead.
Ye Xiu couldn’t be bothered with him. He turned to the waitress and said, "One Mocha, no sugar."
"Right away!" the waitress replied, feeling immensely honored.
When the young man saw Ye Xiu ignore him, he felt even more slighted. He slammed his hand on the table, stood up, and roared, "I’m talking to you, damn it!"
Ye Xiu still paid him no mind, not even glancing in his direction as he quietly waited for his coffee.
Seeing this, everyone in the coffee shop smiled with amusement. They thought Ye Xiu was pretty gutsy to dare to snub the young man. They all settled in to watch the show, curious to see how the youth would handle the awkward situation.
"He seems to look down on you," the sharp-chinned, monkey-faced old man taunted. "That’s an insult you can’t just swallow. If I were you, I certainly couldn’t let that slide." He was clearly goading the young man into escalating things.
Sure enough, being repeatedly ignored by Ye Xiu, coupled with the old man’s provocations, sent the young man’s fury skyrocketing. He stomped over to Ye Xiu’s side. "Kid, in my entire life, no one has ever dared to ignore me. Apologize right now, or you’re not walking out of this coffee shop today."
SMACK!
Ye Xiu slapped the young man across the face. "Annoy me again, and I’ll crush you."
"You... you dare to hit me?" the young man stammered in disbelief.
The others in the shop were also stunned that Ye Xiu would actually strike someone. Even if they didn’t know the young man, his clothes and bearing suggested he wasn’t someone an ordinary person should provoke. Suddenly, everyone’s interest in Ye Xiu was piqued. This kid had some serious nerve.
The sharp-chinned, monkey-faced old man seized the chance to stir the pot. "You got hit and you still don’t dare to fight back? I see you’re not just an idiot, but a worthless coward too."
This remark was the final spark that ignited the young man’s rage. "Kid, you have no idea who I am, do you?" he roared. "I am Zhang Hong, the Eldest Young Master of the Zhang Family of Qingfeng Road! You dare hit me? Believe it or not, I’ll make sure you don’t live to see the sunset!"
He figured Ye Xiu had only dared to hit him because he didn’t know his identity. Now that he’d announced his name, he was sure Ye Xiu would be scared stiff and would be on his knees, crying and begging for mercy.
The sharp-chinned, monkey-faced old man and the others in the shop thought the same. That was just how the world worked. An ordinary person provoking a powerful family was simply asking for death.
"You’re really getting on my nerves." Ye Xiu’s hand shot out, grabbing Zhang Hong by the neck and lifting him off his feet. "Go on, show me how you’re going to make sure I don’t live to see the sunset. If you can’t, I’ll make sure you don’t."
"You..." Zhang Hong was stunned. He wasn’t a complete fool; the ease with which Ye Xiu lifted him with a single hand meant he was obviously a Martial Artist. The realization sent a cold sweat down his back, and he panicked.
Everyone else in the coffee shop was utterly dumbfounded. They never imagined Ye Xiu was actually a Martial Artist. This was especially true for the sharp-chinned, monkey-faced old man. Just moments ago, he had confidently declared Ye Xiu wasn’t a Martial Artist and had even incited Zhang Hong to bully him. Now, Ye Xiu’s display of power was a direct slap to his face.
"Oh, quite the tough guy, aren’t we?" the old man said, his face turning frosty. "You think you can just kill someone because you know a little Kung Fu? Go on, kill Zhang Hong. Let me see you do it. If you don’t have the guts, then I’ll kill you."
"And who are you?" Ye Xiu asked.
"You are not worthy of knowing my name," the old man said with a sneer, then urged him on. "Didn’t you say you’d make sure Zhang Hong wouldn’t live to see sunset? Hurry up and do it. If you don’t dare kill him, I’ll have to kill you."
As he spoke, he drew the sword from his table, posturing as if ready to strike.
