Mated To My Best Friend's Lycan Alpha Brothers-Chapter 488: A Promise
(Author’s POV)
’What are they doing here at this time?’ Fabian’s thoughts arose as a frown appeared on his face.
"I hope we didn’t disturb your rest, did we?" Sara asked, her voice soothing.
"Oh no, not at all. Fabian and I were just having a chat," Myra said with a faint smile as she looked inside. When she mentioned Fabian’s name so casually, with such fondness, Alaric’s jaw clenched, while Elio had a rather annoyed look on his face, though he quickly concealed it. "Do you~ ... need something?" she added, blinking twice.
"It’s been a long time. I was hoping to catch up with you," Sara replied honestly.
Myra glanced back at Fabian, then at Sara and the others. She surely wanted to talk to Sara and apologize to her, but~ .... Fabian was here first, waiting for her. She could sense that he had something really important to tell her. So, she was struggling to come to a decision.
"Prof. Stephens is here?" Sara spoke, both her brows arched.
Fabian, who noticed Myra’s inside scuffling, straightened his posture and walked towards her, his steps measured. He stood beside her, almost plastered himself adjacent her and said, "We can finish ’our matter’ tomorrow. I am sure you and Mrs. Everests have a lot to talk about. I don’t want to intrude." He looked down at her, ruffling her hair gently and gave her one of his charismatic, playful smiles.
"You sure? You said~ ...." Myra queried.
"Ummhmm~ I’m fine .... I’ll text you, okay. Good night," his hands travelled from her head to her face as he caressed her cheek with his thumb for a second longer, then he walked out, a triumphant look on his face. Or as Yelena says, making a face like a proud peacock.
Just like that, he had asserted himself as generous and understanding, scoring some more points. Both Alaric and Elio glared at his receding figure, clearly pissed by his smugness. Their respective wolves were ready to pounce on him and take away that proud look off of his face. But Fabian, he was thoroughly satisfied.
’Good, that I didn’t confess to her today. I was being too hasty. I can’t ask her out just like that. I need to prepare well for the moment, set the right atmosphere and make sure no one is able to disturb us then~ ..." he then glanced back, ’Sometimes these wolves are helpful as well.’
"Ma’am~ ... please come inside," Myra said as she stepped aside, making way for them.
Sara went inside, but Alaric and Elio remained rooted to their spot. After all, she hadn’t permitted them to come in. Myra tilted her head and asked, "Aren’t you two going to come in?"
"Can we?" Elio asked immediately. Though he was eager, he didn’t want to step into her personal space without her consent. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
Myra gave a brief nod, and only then did they follow her into her room. "Please take a seat," she said, her voice steady, but inwardly she was really nervous.
Sara looked around her neatly organised, shipshape room, then looked at Myra, taking a seat, "Myra~ ... it’s been more than a year since I saw you last time. You look so~ ..." she paused.
Myra pursed her lips as she settled beside her. Sara held her face with both hands and said, "Brave told me everything. Those corrupt people who dared to do this to you, they won’t be spared." Sara vowed, her eyes turning red with contained rage.
"Ma’~ ... Sara. There is no need for that. My father and I discussed about this. I am going to file a formal complaint against the perpetrators. The law will deal with them. You don’t need to worry," Myra spoke.
"Are you still trying to keep a distance from us?" Sara commented, her tone plaintive.
"It’s nothing like that. I just don’t want to trouble you all," Myra was quick to answer. "The police can handle this. If I need any sort of help, I’ll definitely reach out to you." She added, in an attempt to assure Sara.
Sara understood and didn’t push her any further, then she took Myra’s hands, her eyes moistening, "Myra, I know what we did, what we concealed from you has hurt you deeply. We should have been honest from the start. There is no excuse for that. But~ .... that night, when you helped Brave to wake up from his slumber. When you talked to him on the phone. I thought your heart had softened a little. I thought you were ready to forgive us. It got my hopes high. I didn’t know you would~ .... you would completely disappear from our lives." Her voice tremored at the end.
Myra’s head lowered; she was truly feeling guilty. She recalled the night before she had cut all contact with the Everests. The pain, the desperation with which Sara had called her, it was a difficult time for her, too. "I~ .... I am~ ... I am really sorry~ ...." she mumbled, her voice barely above a whisper.
The next moment, Sara held her in a warm, comforting hug, "It must have been tough for you, too. But everything is good now. Everything’s good. Now that we have met again, everything is gonna be fine."
Myra broke into sobs as remorse washed over her. Sara, who treated her like her own daughter, welcomed her with open arms, always showed genuine concern towards her, always defended her and Myra, what did she do? She had hurt such a kind person. This feeling has been gnawing on her heart, tearing it apart.
Elio himself turned teary-eyed as he saw Myra being an emotional wreck. He was barely containing himself, as well as Leo. He wanted to go and take Myra into his embrace. Seeing her in such a state was heartrending for him.
Alaric, on the other hand, had a rather complicated expression. After all, he knew the real reason behind Myra’s decision. Alex could feel her sorrow, her distress. How much she must have suffered then, to cry like this now.
After crying her heart out, Myra’s sobs lessened gradually until they completely stopped. She then looked in Sara’s dark blues and said, her words determined, "I promise, I won’t do this again. I won’t run away."
