Masteria Online: Shattering the Dark God's Grand Scheme-Chapter 145 - Useless Deer King
She crossed the distance swiftly and threw herself directly at him. He caught her in his wide open arms with a smile.
"LUMI!" She kept her arms wrapped around him tight as she settled in on his chest. It was an extremely awkward angle that would not be possible to sustain without Lumi’s supernatural strength. "I missed you so much! It’s been so long! Let me look at you."
She pulled back just far enough to look at his face. She stared into his eyes for a couple moments, giggling to herself. She then decided looking was insufficient and kissed him.
He let it go on for a respectable amount of time before gently breaking it off. "I’m here. I’m fine."
"Good." She nodded firmly. "Good. Okay. We have a deer king to kill. Do you already know the specifics?"
Lumi shook his head. "Tell me."
She turned to face the room, which snapped everyone around them back into motion.
She explained it to everyone.
The plan was straightforward. Lumi and Lena would enter through the front to deal with the Deer King. Headmaster Ney and Deputy Headmistress May would infiltrate through the back, where they knew the remaining children were being held, and rescue them. The two groups would not interact during the operation. They would meet outside only once it was done.
They made their way to the tunnel entrance.
"So." Lena said, as they stood outside it. "Time for justice."
"Absolutely." Lumi confirmed. "Follow my lead."
She gave him a look that was both completely trusting and completely unreadable. "Always."
They went in. As soon as they took a step in, the scene changed from a mass of vegetation to a clearing.
There was a large throne made of wood, decorated by an assortment of vegetation. It had been arranged by something with a sense of self-importance, yet lacking the tools to make a proper throne.
The Deer King stood in the center.
It was significantly larger than a natural deer, with a rack of antlers that had been adorned with what appeared to be stolen accessories, some of them clearly meant for humanoid wearers.
Around it, various onion and radish subordinates milled about, the same vegetable monsters that Lena had been complaining about in her messages for days.
The Deer King stared at the intruders with wide eyes. "What!?" It took a step back, then its face grew furious. "Intruders!"
Neither Lumi nor Lena wasted time on a dramatic pause.
Lena moved first. She waved her wand, launching several energy balls in rapid succession, each one finding a vegetable subordinate and detonating on impact.
It took no effort. One shot, one kill. The subordinates that had been closest to the Deer King had turned to mere scrap.
Lumi moved at the same time.
He reached for his newly acquired dark magic. "Void Sphere..."
It materialized as a dark purple orb about twenty feet in front of him. It hung in the air, rotating slowly, its surface consuming and destructive. It continuously shot what seemed to be black lightning as it pulsed.
He held it in place.
The Deer King looked at it in fear. Yet fury took over. "Who are you!? I will kill you! I will kill both of you where you stand!"
Lumi’s expression was the most dangerous thing in the room.
Evil.
Lumi’s expression had been replaced with pure, unadulterated malice. Not a single inch of good intentions remained. Only cold, malicious, intentions were left.
He launched the Void Sphere.
The Deer King swiftly dashed to the right. At the absolute last moment, the trajectory of the sphere made it pass by its left. It sighed with visible relief.
Then it felt it slam into its side. "AHHH!"
The Void Sphere could be controlled. That was the point of active focus. The Deer King could not possibly know that, of course, and thus suffered the consequences.
Lumi pressed harder.
He did not let up. He drove the orb against it harder, shredding its skin, flesh, and bones. "AHHHHH!" The Deer King flailed and screamed in agony.
Only when it seemed the Deer King might die if he kept going did he stop, dispersing the spell and leaving the Deer King laying on the floor.
He looked down at it. "Get. Up."
He stared down at the beast with a face full of contempt. "Get the fuck up!"
The Deer King trembled, its entire body shaking as it forced its hooves to move. Slowly, it did as Lumi demanded, getting up, though it barely could.
Lumi roughly pulled Lena to his side, keeping one arm around her, grabbing at her. It was an act to show ego, pride. That she was his. Villains loved to show off their partners, and a beast like the Deer King would understand such an instinct even more.
Lena, for her part, had not been warned of any of it.
She had not been told that this was a performance, that there was a show being put on, that the arrogant possessiveness and the evil expression and the entire presentation of this was deliberate and calculated.
However, she wasn’t stupid.
She knew Lumi.
He was a good person! A hero! Much more than she could ever be.
So if Lumi was being a sadistic villain, this was a performance. He was being Evil Lumi, and she didn’t need to ask any questions to know what to do.
She performed too.
She let her expression change to utter contempt and disregard. "Ptew." She spat on the beast. She seemed faintly amused, and leaned further into Lumi.
She barely had to act. The Deer King was a villain, through and through. All she had to do was let out her true emotions. Torturing this thing was truly satisfying...
However, there was something else going through her mind.
Lumi was touching her.
Lumi had his arm around her and was holding her against him in a way that made her want to squeak and start licking him. She couldn’t do that, of course, and so she held herself back by focusing on her utter contempt for the beast.
If Lumi had wanted to kill it, then he would have already done so. Therefore, he wanted it alive for now. However, he wanted the beast to not just be terrified of him, but to see him as a villain.
She had to play it up, then.
She leaned her head into his chest, dragging a finger slowly down his chest. She gently cooed up at him. "What will we do with the filthy beast, darling~? Let me kill it, please~ I want to see its eyes the moment I murder it~"
The Deer King trembled further.
