Chapter 380: Episode 40.11 Bullying The Bad

It took Lee Jinhyuk several shaky breaths before the truth slammed into him: he had no way out.

The forest behind him was no refuge—stepping into it meant walking straight into the stealth squad of agents waiting like wolves in the dark. He didn’t know where they’d been hiding; he only knew his fleeing subordinates had already been swallowed whole.

The trail ahead was no better. Guild masters stood like an immovable barricade, and at their center was Bai Tingfeng—calm, lethal, and radiating the cold fury of a smitten alpha pushed past his limit. Charging forward would be suicide... a one-way ticket to becoming a living punching bag.

Every escape path had collapsed.

Lee Jinhyuk was trapped—and everyone knew it.

He knew it.

"Even if you have wings, you won’t fly out of here," Shen Yuan said, floating effortlessly in the air. His face was ghastly pale, like the white flame he once used to torture Cardinal Rin. He had a vivid memory of its viciousness, so at the reminder of it, Lee Jinhyuk instinctively stepped back.

Chairman Mao and Xia Jinhai flanked him, staring down at Lee Jinhyuk with matching smugness and absolute apathy.

Xia Jinhai casually lifted all the scattered camera lenses with his psychic powers and wrapped them in a force field. Lee Jinhyuk’s heart burned with hatred, seeing his only means of escape held hostage like this.

If he could stab that force field with the Mage Killer dagger and destroy it, then he could take one of the lenses and use it to escape—

Crack!

"Xia Jinhai!" Lee Jinhyuk roared like a wounded beast as he watched his only way out get imploded by the shrinking force field.

"Sorry, we just can’t take chances," The bespectacled S-class alpha apathetically adjusted his glasses, smirking.

But even a small animal will fight when cornered. So, how could Lee Jinhyuk simply accept death and imprisonment?

His mind spun rapidly. Then—without hesitation—he bolted toward the pond.

Water, even low-quality and murky, could still create a reflection.

Reflection meant escape.

A long shot, but a shot nonetheless.

If he could just reach the surface... If he could just activate his power—

BOOM! ZAAAAAP!

A thunderous crack split the sky. In the next instant, his entire body seized, nerves screaming, and he slammed face-first into the dirt.

"Don’t worry, that lightning strike won’t kill you," Chairman Mao chirped. "Just paralyze you for... a day, maybe."

Lee Jinhyuk’s eyes reddened.

Damn it! If he could turn back time, he would never have trusted that deceptively harmless old man!

Hitting a person with lightning in a heartbeat, does he still have a conscience?

"I remember," Shen Yuan said, voice cool and close, chilling like a blizzard wind. Lee Jinhyuk stiffened. "You made my five-year-old run for his life."

Lee Jinhyuk couldn’t see him, but he heard every word—and terror crawled up his spine. His breathing quickened.

It was over.

"So," Shen Yuan continued, amusement thin and dangerous, "how does it feel having the tables turned? Did you enjoy dancing around the palm of your enemy?"

"Kill me..." Lee Jinhyuk groaned through pain, fear and anger. He tried to move his head to look directly at Shen Yuan, but he couldn’t. His strength has long left him.

Thankfully, Shen Yuan was kind enough to help him. Lee Jinhyuk just felt his upper body being pulled back through his hair. Looking up, Lee Jinhyuk saw the three S-class awakeners of the Hunter Association encircling him and looking at him with cold, unfeeling eyes.

"Oh, I’ve always known that you would end up begging for your death, but I didn’t expect you to do it this early," Shen Yuan, the center of the heartless trio, whispered close to Lee Jinhyuk. "Honestly, though, I think you shouldn’t beg at all because you will never get it in the first place."

Lee Jinhyuk’s eyes shook. He tried to open his mouth to speak, but before he could even make a sound, he felt something hit the back of his neck.

"Chairman Mao! I am not done messing with him!"

"You have plenty of time to do that once we are out of this dungeon, Yuan."

Those are the last things he heard before his consciousness slipped. But throughout it all, he was internally screaming: Bastards!

~~~
"Well, that was anti-climactic," Shen Yuan said in a huff after his butt landed on the cosy leather couch in Chairman Mao’s office.
After Lee Jinhyuk was caught, handling the rest of the Cardinals’ members became easy.
Chairman Mao shocked them with a lightning bolt, stopping them from trying to escape.
"The operation’s goal in the first place is securing the capture of an A-space warp user. He doesn’t have an offensive power by himself, and with thorough preparation on our part, we effectively stopped him from causing extensive damage," Chairman Mao said, occupying his chair beyond the table.
After a long and exhausting day of acting, fighting and instructing, the two S-class awakeners just leaned their weight against the backrest and sighed.
Finally, the work is done.
"But admit it, without me, cornering Lee Jinhyuk would not be easy." Shen Yuan playfully squinted at the old chairman.
Mao Huanlong, not willing to say any compliments to the arrogant omega, snorted. "Ha! What are you talking about? It was because of Bai Tingfeng that you came up with the idea of pushing Lee Jinhyuk’s mentality. Isn’t it true that if Bai Tingfeng didn’t intimidate Lee Jinhyuk, the poor bastard would not make the mistake of taking out his mana-diffusing device?"
If Lee Jinhyuk was just planting lenses in the forest floor, then that is not enough to question his identity. He can think of a ridiculous reason for doing it, and they can only accept it begrudgingly with open eyes.
It must be said that the mana-diffusing device cemented and smoothed Lee Jinhuk’s capture.
"Fine. My husband’s jealousy and poor temper are the MVPs of this operation." Shen Yuan said, and the two of them laughed together.
"So, what is your plan now?" Shen Yuan asked. In between his arms is the Huhu the fox stuffed toy that looked a bit haggard from all the squeezing and tugging.
Chairman Mao didn’t look at Shen Yuan and instead turned on his personal computer.
"You know what. Squeeze Lee Jinhyuk for information. Xia Jinhai is taking care of their accommodation in the Diyu, so I think I will just leave the matter to him."
"Need some help with that? You are aware that interrogation is within my area of expertise."
Chairman Mao’s gaze just brushed over Shen Yuan’s current state and then lingered at the poor stuffed toy in the latter’s arms.
"Nope. You’ve done enough."
Shen Yuan slowly dragged his leaning body up. "Eh? I think so too. But I wouldn’t hate releasing some of my pent-up anger—"
The omega’s words were cut short by the sound of Chairman Mao’s door opening.
"The doctor is here," Bai Tingfeng announced upon entering. Behind him was a middle-aged female omega with a pleasing smile.
She’s the Bai family’s family doctor. Dr. An Cai.
"I told you I was fine!" Shen Yuan helplessly uttered, standing up to greet the good acquaintance.
"Well, your words contradict what we are seeing. You are pale like a ghost. I cannot rest easy without hearing an assurance from a professional that you are indeed fine." Bai Tingfeng said, leaving without any room for concession.
And so, Shen Yuan had no choice but to offer himself for a deep check-up.
Dr An Cai was an awakened healer capable of performing energy readings on the body. By letting her energy flow through a patient, she could diagnose their condition—whether an illness was present or not—with pinpoint accuracy.
"Hmmm," She hummed as the light from her ability lit up her face. Her pleasing features became even more calming for the pregnant Shen Yuan.
"What is it?" Shen Yuan asked.
"The baby is okay..."
"Thankfully, you didn’t do anything physically strenuous during the operation," Chairman Mao commented from the side.
"However, your mental fatigue level is on the red." Dr An Cai said, causing Chairman Mao to shut up. He was guilty of making Shen Yuan work on the illusion spell for a long time.
"It is amazing that you remained conscious after using your awakened powers for such a long time."
On the side, Bai Tingfeng’s expression couldn’t be painted.
See? He was right! Shen Yuan is not entirely alright!
"Well, it was an exciting operation— cathartic even." Shen Yuan, seeing the unsightly reaction of his husband, panicked. "That’s why I am totally fine."
"Master Shen," Dr An Cai said, her tone firm but gentle. "Your health isn’t made of separate parts. If one aspect suffers, the rest follow—especially during pregnancy. If you keep using your powers carelessly, the baby’s hold on your womb may weaken. That would make your pregnancy far more difficult."
Shen Yuan and Bai Tingfeng gasped.
"And you still want to participate in interrogating our prisoners..." Chairman Mao, the ever-active shit-stirrer, commented.
"What?!" Bai Tingfeng’s sword eyebrows are crossing over each other.
"That was mainly rhetorical. I didn’t mean it!" Shen Yuan tried to deny. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
Unlucky for him, Bai Tingfeng knew him extremely well. "You are resting for the rest of the day. Please, Dr An."
Shen Yuan was confused about the last part of his husband’s statement when, suddenly, a soothing energy coursed through his body and his tired mind welcomed sleepiness.
Shit. Is he sharing fate with Lee Jinhyuk now? Like people can arbitrarily knock him out now?!
