Chapter 89: Kesan Canyon

Blade stood at the entrance of Kesan Canyon, staring at the massive, winding rock formations before him. The canyon stretched endlessly into the horizon, its curved walls reaching high into the sky like ancient sentinels guarding a forbidden path. The sheer grandeur of the place was breathtaking, more majestic than any landscape he had ever seen—far beyond anything even the most advanced virtual reality could replicate.

Despite its beauty, an unsettling aura surrounded the canyon. The air was eerily still, broken only by the occasional gust of wind that whistled between the rock formations. There were no signs of life—no birds, no animals, not even the distant rustling of leaves. It was as if nature itself had abandoned this place.

Blade exhaled deeply, gripping the hilt of his temporary sword. "No wonder this place isn't a tourist attraction. It's a death trap."

The river that snaked through the canyon shimmered under the sunlight, its surface disturbingly calm. Following it upstream, he knew he would eventually reach the north cliff, where Loran's Falls lay hidden—a place spoken of only in rumors. Somewhere near that location, the legendary Growth-Type Sword awaited him.

Yet, as he took his first step into the canyon, he couldn't shake off the feeling that something was watching him. The silence was too absolute. The canyon wasn't just dangerous—it felt alive, as if the land itself wanted to swallow him whole.

"Time to move," he muttered, pushing forward, his heart pounding with both excitement and caution.

Aside from its breathtaking beauty and eerie atmosphere, Kesan Canyon was infamous for one more thing—the Canyon Spiders. These giant, man-eating arachnids were the stuff of nightmares, their presence alone enough to make many players quit the game after encountering them. Stories of adventurers getting ambushed, trapped in webs, or devoured alive had turned them into one of the most feared monsters in the north.

Yet, Blade continued walking, undeterred by the canyon's reputation.

As he ventured deeper, his sharp eyes caught sight of something ahead. A pile of motionless Canyon Spiders littered the rocky path, their massive legs curled inward, their bodies twitching slightly in death. The sight was gruesome—thick, dark blood stained the ground, and the once fearsome creatures lay slashed, burned, and crushed.

Blade came to a stop, observing the carnage with a thoughtful expression. "I had quite high expectations for this place," he mumbled to himself, stepping over the dead creatures without hesitation. He had been mentally preparing to face these monsters, yet someone—or something—had already wiped them out before he even arrived.

"Well, whatever," Blade mumbled as he continued walking. His goal wasn't just to fight these spiders—it was the sword he had come for.

He pressed forward, encountering many more monsters along the way. With each battle, he refined his skills, striking down creatures effortlessly. "Hmm, it seems the player ahead is dead now," he muttered, slashing through one soldier monster after another. The sheer number of enemies was overwhelming, but for a monster like him, it was merely fuel to push himself further.

Each swing of his blade was precise, his Swordsmanship Mastery steadily improving as he gained more and more levels. Kesan Canyon had a minimum level requirement of 160, yet Blade, with his monstrous talent and skill, was able to carve his way through with ease.

By the time he reached the northern end of Kesan Canyon, he had already reached level 99—a significant milestone. Before him stood Loran's Falls, the legendary waterfall that few had ever seen. A vast, shimmering lake stretched beneath it, reflecting the light of the setting sun. This was it—the place where the sacred sword was hidden.

As he stepped closer, a familiar voice greeted him.

"You are here, finally."

Blade turned to see Old Granny, standing near the water's edge. He nodded in acknowledgment before scanning the lake.

"It's in here?" he asked, his eyes narrowing as he tried to gauge the lake's depth.

"Yes," she confirmed, pointing toward the water.

Blade frowned. "How deep is it? No one has found it yet, so I'm guessing it's at the bottom?"

Old Granny shook her head. "It's not at the bottom, but rather, it's hidden within an underwater Kingdom."

Blade's eyes gleamed with anticipation. "An underwater Kingdom, huh? That explains why no one's found it yet."

"And it can only be found using my knife," she added, her gaze softening with nostalgia as she stared into the water.

Blade narrowed his eyes. "You're hiding something from me," he said, watching her carefully.

Old Granny let out a small sigh before shaking her head. "I'm not. It's just... this place reminds me of my time here."

Blade nodded in understanding. Whatever her past was, it wasn't his business—at least, not right now.

Suddenly—

Gurgle.

The water rippled, and from its depths, figures began emerging. Mermen.

Blade immediately stepped back, his hand instinctively reaching for his weapon as several humanoid creatures with glistening blue scales and razor-sharp tridents rose from the lake. Their yellow, reptilian eyes locked onto him with hostility.

"I guess it's not going to be easy getting that sword," he muttered, gripping his weapon tighter.

Old Granny remained unfazed. "Kill them, and you will gain something that will allow you to swim and breathe underwater as if it were natural to you. You will need it to reach the sword."

Blade nodded. "Understood."

With that, he stepped forward, ready for battle.

Blade took a deep breath, steadying his stance as the mermen surrounded him. Their tridents gleamed under the dim light reflecting off the lake, their sharp points glistening with an eerie blue hue. Water magic. He could feel it in the air—these creatures weren't just brute warriors; they had elemental control.

"Tsk. This is going to be a pain."

One of the mermen let out a gurgling screech, signaling the attack. In an instant, three of them lunged forward, their tridents aimed directly at Blade's chest.

Clang! Clang!

Blade twisted his body, narrowly dodging the first strike while deflecting the other two with his sword. Sparks flew as steel clashed against steel. He spun around and delivered a precise slash, severing the arm of one merman. The creature let out a shrill cry, but before it could retreat, Blade drove his sword through its chest.
