Martial Arts Worlds-Chapter 841: Greatest Landmark
"...Go to hiding!"
"...It’s dangerous outside. It feels like the apocalypse over here!"
With fear in the faces of the Bulwarkians, they all ran inside and out of the streets into their homes.
They didn’t know what was going on, but not long ago, it felt like the sky itself started falling down around them.
This city had become a battlefield for two True Gods, and their survival, even if they were hiding inside their homes, wasn’t guaranteed.
In the skies, Metsudo and Kiernan hovered like a pair of gods. Just have them draped in silk robes, and they would definitely look the part.
"The air in this place is disgusting. I really don’t understand how you could reach this kind of level with such low air quality. I guess it helps to have a cheat—the system—with ya."
Metsudo chuckled.
"Does that mean Mercedes is also a cheater? She is also using a system, is she not?"
Kiernan asked.
"...She used to, yes, but she destroyed her own system to free herself from it and the clutches of the gods. As long as you have that system, you’re bound by rules dictated by gods."
Metsudo said.
"Sounds like she planned to rebel against the Heavens, while I don’t have such intentions. I just want you and Mercedes... Gone."
In that moment, Kiernan attacked first with the halberd.
He hurled himself through, flying through the sky, halberd spinning, and the blade screaming through the wind.
Metsudo met the strike with his sword, and the collision sent a shockwave through the clouds, ripping them apart.
Rain burst into steam. Thunder boomed like a war drum.
They moved faster than storms.
Kiernan swung wide, trying to crush Metsudo with raw force, while Metsudo slipped past the halberd’s reach, cutting with sharp, precise strikes.
Steel rang again and again as they fought across the open sky, sparks of lightning and light bursting with every clash.
At that moment, Kiernan drove the halberd forward, catching Metsudo in the side and throwing him backward through the clouds.
"Urgh..."
Metsudo groaned in pain, but then he twisted in midair and stopped himself before he flew any further.
He launched himself forward again and met Kiernan in the middle of the air, and their weapons locked in a fierce battle.
Boom~ Doom~ Boom~
For a moment, they hovered face to face, wind tearing at their clothes, thunder roaring around them.
"Prepare to die, haha!"
Metsudo laughed.
"Hmph!"
Kiernan scoffed.
They broke apart and charged back at each other. They collided, and the air around them exploded, and the shockwave rippled outwards.
Shatter~ Shatter~ Shatter~
Below in the ground, the citizens of the Bulwark screamed and covered themselves in fear as the broken glass fell around them.
"This looks to be a very even match!"
Metsudo grinned while trying to push his sword through the halberd, but his weapon had met an equal match as well.
He had grown used to being able to cut through everything and anything with his sword, and he truly started to believe that it was the strongest weapon there was.
Yet now, this halberd proved to be an equal match... Equal... Maybe.
’I don’t think I’ve grasped the true power of this halberd. It is a creation of gods. It feels lackluster if this is all it is capable of.
’I feel like... I can do much more with it... Much more, and honestly, if I somehow can unleash its full potential, this fight will end swiftly.’
Kiernan thought to himself.
He looked at the halberd that he held with one hand, and wondered how he could release its power.
Maybe he couldn’t because he wasn’t a god or strong enough.
Yet, he could feel the weapon twitching and vibrating as if it was asking him for something.
’Stop holding back... And swing the halberd like you mean it... Is that what you’re telling me...? If that’s so, I’ll heed your advice.’
Kiernan smiled, and then he grabbed the halberd with both hands and lifted it high above his head.
The blade of the halberd shone under the sun, and its crushing presence swept throughout the land.
The animals ran off. The birds migrated to the south. The fish swam deeper into the ocean.
It was like all of them could feel that something was about to happen, and it was like they were escaping from the end of the world.
’I can tell that he’ll do something. I must get serious as well then!’
Metsudo smiled, and at that moment, he hurled his sword towards the sky. It went through the clouds.
It stopped. Then the tip of the sword turned to face down. And it started increasing in size like it was being hit by a growth spell.
That sword was soon bigger than any skyscraper in the world. It could destroy the entire Bulwark Land in a single strike.
The shadow was so big that it stretched across the city below, and the people were filled with fear as they watched it approach.
"...Should we run?"
"...Run where?"
"...This whole island will sink... We’re all dead... Hug your wives and children... We are as good as dead."
They had all resigned to death, and they turned silent, and hugged the person next to them, and closed their eyes.
Waiting for the inevitable.
"HAHAHAHAHA!"
Metsudo swiped his hand down, and the sword started falling towards them.
It was a horrifying sight. Like ants watching a human boot coming to crush them. And the worst part was that there was nothing they could do.
Absolute hopelessness!
However, in that moment.
"Iron Armament Style, Cutting Through Cake!"
Kiernan finally swung the halberd, but no one thought that it would do anything, as it was like a child swinging a wooden stick towards a soldier who was using a proper steel longsword.
In that moment, the blade of the halberd started shining with a bright light, but it wasn’t much of a light.
A very humble amount.
And it really didn’t seem like the halberd was going to do much, but in that moment, Kiernan finished the swing.
"Ah—"
Metsudo’s words got stuck in his throat.
The halberd stopped in front of him. It didn’t even hit him. And yet, he could feel that something was very wrong.
SCREEEEEEECH~
In the sky, the massive sword of Metsudo got cut in half. It was like it was a fake sword made of cake instead. Because it looked like it got cut ridiculously easily.
Behind Metsudo, there was sea stretching as far as the eye could see, and even it got cut in half.
It was like the Red Sea when it got parted in half by Moses.
"Well... This was une—"
Metsudo was about to speak, but then his body got shredded in half, and his blood splattered everywhere.
Then, he was no more, as his cut-in-half corpse fell to the ground in a pool of blood. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Crack!
At that moment, the halberd started cracking and then shattered into a million pieces. Pieces that were too small to see with the naked eye.
’It broke? Why?’
Kiernan thought in surprise.
[Bzzt... The halberd will return back to its master. It wasn’t meant to be wielded by mortals, and since you used its true power finally, its master found its location and summoned it back to his hand]
The system finally spoke.
It had been a while since the last time they spoke. It was in the Dead World’s prison. They spoke everyday because Kiernan would’ve gone mad otherwise.
"Ah, I see. What a shame. Truly a great weapon."
Kiernan said with a sigh.
He then looked down at the city of Bulwarkians, and saw that their fight had made quite a mess, but he didn’t think anyone got killed.
Sure, he had a bad relationship with Bulwarkians, but he wasn’t going to go and kill every one of them because of his feud with Sacrael and what he did.
’I should head back home... With Metsudo dealt with... There is only Mercedes left...’
Kiernan thought, and then sped into the distance, and soon, he was long gone while the Bulwarkians finally stepped out of their home.
When they saw the condition of their city, they thought that they were lucky to be alive.
The streets were destroyed, all the windows were shattered, and it looked like some of the buildings were barely hanging on.
And, then there was the sea, which was slowly getting back together, as the parting of the sea finally came to an end.
When the two sides of the sea came back together, it was as if nothing had ever happened.
"...Did we just see gods fighting?"
Some of them whispered to themselves.
They then noticed the destroyed sword of Metsudo. It was still in its gigantic form. It was cut in half, and the sword’s two sides were stabbing through the ground on the outskirts of the city.
For centuries to come, this broken sword was going to be the greatest landmark of all of Bulwark, as it meant the start of the new age for them.
And this battle was going to be talked about for the longest time.
