Marrying His Nemesis: Kicking My Scumbag Fiancé Away!-Chapter 70: Do You Want to Divorce Me? (Part 2)
Divorce?
Seraphina was taken aback.
"Why would I want to divorce you?"
"Don’t you want to retrieve the data from Adrian Chamberlain?"
"Of course, I want the data back, but that doesn’t mean I should agree to his terms. I’m still not sure if he’s telling the truth."
Seraphina frowned with disgust, "Besides, even if he really has all the data, I wouldn’t divorce you and use myself as a bargaining chip."
Ethan Sterling’s eyes flashed with a hint of surprise.
Reaching across the table, he gently lifted her chin with his finger.
"Why?"
"Because... "
Seraphina was at a loss for words.
After the incident, her first decision was to tell Ethan Sterling and discuss it with him.
Even she hadn’t contemplated this question.
Being with Ethan Sterling was a transaction, and so was with Adrian Chamberlain...
Why did she choose Ethan Sterling?
Facing his gaze, Seraphina pressed her lips together.
"Because... I trust you."
Ethan Sterling’s lips curved as he leaned down and gave her a light kiss on the lips.
"I’ll make sure not to disappoint you, Mrs. Sterling. I’ll have someone look into the data matter. Let’s go out and celebrate. I have a little gift for you."
The two walked out of the office together, heading towards the parking lot outside the orchestra.
Noticing the black suit under Ethan Sterling’s coat, Seraphina couldn’t help but recall the figure on the balcony of their old family house.
"Our family’s old house in the Sovereign Villa District seems to have been bought by someone," Seraphina said, opening the car door. "Do you know who bought it?"
Ethan Sterling stood behind her, taking his vibrating phone out of his pocket.
Gesturing for Seraphina to wait, he raised his right hand to bring the phone to his ear.
Whatever the other person said made Ethan Sterling’s expression suddenly tense, his brows furrowed.
"Okay... I’ll be right there."
Hanging up the phone, Ethan Sterling spoke apologetically.
"Honey, a friend has been injured. I have to go. Can we celebrate tomorrow instead?"
"Got it." Seraphina handed him the car keys proactively, "Why don’t you drive there?"
"No need, I’ll just take a cab." Ethan Sterling descended the steps and turned his face towards her, "Drive safely. I might be late, so remember to eat on time and don’t wait up for me."
Just then, a taxi passed by on the road.
Ethan Sterling hailed the taxi, got into the back seat, and waved goodbye to her.
Being home alone wasn’t a problem for Seraphina. She went to the supermarket to buy some fruits and drove to the private hospital where her father was admitted.
Seeing her, Theodore Thorne on the hospital bed immediately smiled.
Seraphina peeled an apple for him, mashed it into puree, and spoon-fed it to her father.
Then, she took the initiative to talk to her father about her life.
"The conductor has made me the leader of the violin section. Isn’t your daughter amazing? And... there has been progress with my brother’s case. Maybe, in a while... he’ll come to see you..."
Theodore Thorne’s lips moved, and he raised his hand to hold her arm, struggling to utter a syllable.
"Se...ra...phina..."
"Dad!" Seraphina exclaimed, clutching her father’s hand excitedly, "Are you calling my name?"
Theodore Thorne nodded, his clouded eyes filling with tears.
"I’m... sorry!"
"Dad!" Seraphina’s eyes welled with warmth as she hurriedly grabbed a tissue to wipe the corners of her father’s eyes, "What are you saying? You haven’t done anything wrong, why apologize to me? Be good, don’t cry. Here... let’s eat some fruit, the more you eat, the faster you’ll recover."
Theodore Thorne controlled his emotions and nodded tearfully at her.
He opened his mouth and eagerly swallowed the apple puree from her spoon.
After eating the fruit, he quickly fell asleep.
It was a normal phenomenon for him after recovery, more easily fatigued than average, leading to extra sleep.
Seraphina meticulously wiped Theodore Thorne’s hands and feet clean with a warm towel, as the carer returned from a meal.
Entering the room, the carer looked around curiously.
"Huh, Mr. Sterling isn’t here?"
"No, he has other matters today."
"That’s odd, I just saw him at the emergency room."
Seraphina turned her face, "You saw Ethan Sterling at the emergency building?"
"Yes, I saw Mr. Sterling holding some papers. I thought he was fetching medicine for Mr. Thorne!" the carer replied.
Recalling Ethan Sterling’s phone call, Seraphina was taken aback.
Could it be his friend was also in this hospital?
"Can you watch over my dad while I go check it out?"
Even if she was just a temporary contract wife, Ethan Sterling had helped her a great deal.
Going over might allow her to assist by fetching medicine or running other errands.
Seraphina gathered some fruits into a bag in her hand and headed to the hospital’s emergency center.
Looking around, she went straight to the surgical consultation room.
"Is there something you need?"
A nurse on duty noticed her and took the initiative to ask.
"Excuse me, has any patient been admitted here for a fall injury?"
"That room over there, the doctor is treating a wound!" The nurse pointed to the surgical treatment room at the end of the corridor.
"Thank you!"
Seraphina expressed her gratitude, carrying the fruit across the corridor, and stopped outside the surgical treatment room.
Inside, a doctor’s voice could be faintly heard, "Don’t worry, just cleaning the wound, it will be over soon."
Afraid of disturbing the doctor’s work, Seraphina didn’t knock. Instead, she gently pushed open the slightly ajar door.
Through the gradually widening gap, she immediately spotted the figure facing slightly away from the door.
The man stood with his back to her, one hand on the shoulder of the injured person.
The person’s face was obscured by him, making it unrecognizable.
However, judging by the clothes and the long, shiny black hair, Seraphina instantly recognized it was a young girl.
"Ouch... it hurts!"
The girl softly whimpered.
"It’s okay, it’ll be over soon!"
The familiar voice belonged to Ethan Sterling!
Seraphina stood outside the door, dumbfounded for a few seconds before regaining her senses.
Turning around, she hastily grabbed the fruits and fled from the emergency center.
The treatment room door quietly closed.
Ethan Sterling turned his face, glancing toward the door.
The doctor picked up medical tape and affixed the gauze.
"All done!"
"Doctor." The injured girl clutched Ethan Sterling’s arm, turning her face towards the doctor, brushing aside the hair blocking her face, "When do I need to change the dressing?"
That face bore a resemblance to Seraphina’s.
Unfortunately, Seraphina wasn’t present, otherwise, she would have immediately recognized her.
The girl was none other than Chloe Foster, whom Seraphina had lunch with earlier that day. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
"It’s just a superficial wound, no need to change the dressing." The doctor waved with a smile, "In two or three days, you can just remove the gauze yourself."
As Chloe Foster was about to say more, Ethan Sterling raised his hand, placed it on her shoulder, and gently pushed Chloe Foster away from his chest.
"Wait here a moment, I’ll call Nathan and have him come pick you up."
"My brother has important work today, don’t disturb him. Otherwise... he’ll just end up worrying about me." Chloe Foster tugged at his arm, "Can you take me home? I don’t know the way."
