Chapter 50: Chapter 50: So Gentle, So Searing

The bathroom was filled with steam.

Seraphina Thorne was hunched over, sitting in the bathtub.

Ethan Sterling disregarded everything else and rushed in, crouching beside her.

"Seraphina, what are you doing here?"

"I just wanted to take a bath, but..." Seraphina scrubbed her shoulder vigorously, "I just can’t wash it off."

There was a noticeable bruise on her shoulder.

It was a mark left by Adrian Chamberlain when he pressed her down.

From scrubbing too hard, her skin was reddened.

Ethan grabbed her hand that was still scrubbing, and helped her smooth her messy hair.

"No need to wash anymore, Seraphina is very clean."

He pulled over a towel and lifted her out of the bathtub.

Ethan placed her on the sink counter and took a hair dryer to dry her hair, then lifted her small face with his hand.

"See, our Seraphina is fragrant and clean!"

"Really?"

"Of course."

"But..." Seraphina lowered her face, using her nails to scratch the spot on her neck kissed by Adrian Chamberlain, "I still feel like I’m not clean..."

Whenever she closed her eyes now, she would think of Adrian.

Think of the feeling of his kisses on her body, and his hands gripping her...

She felt waves of nausea.

Though she didn’t keep long nails because she played the violin, there were still red scratch marks left on her skin.

"Seraphina!" Ethan, distressed, grabbed her wrist, pulled her back to bed, and wrapped her in the quilt, "Believe me, you are really clean, really!"

Somehow, it started raining outside.

Raindrops, carried by the wind, pounded against the floor-to-ceiling windows, startling Seraphina into a shiver.

It was a night like this in middle school too.

Ethan noticed, his thick eyebrows knitted tightly.

"Seraphina!" He raised his hand to hold her shoulder, "If I kiss you now, will you feel uncomfortable?"

Seraphina raised her face, and stared at him for a moment, then shook her head.

Ethan lowered his head and gently kissed her face.

"How about this, does it make you uncomfortable?"

Seraphina shook her head.

He then kissed her lips.

"How about this?"

Seraphina still shook her head.

The girl’s face didn’t show any sign of disgust or difficulty.

It was clear she didn’t mind his contact.

Ethan gently pressed her onto the pillow and bent down to meet her gaze.

"Who am I?"

"Ethan Sterling."

"That’s right, I’m Ethan Sterling!" Ethan raised his palm, smoothing her messy hair on her face, "Seraphina, from now on, no matter how many times you think of tonight, I want you to... remember me!"

Seraphina didn’t quite understand what he meant.

But, the man’s eyes made her feel very safe.

She nodded lightly.

"Good girl!"

The man’s kisses fell.

From the strands of hair to the brows, then over her face, the tip of her nose, and finally landed on her lips.

He kissed with utmost gentleness, utmost caution, as if she were a fragile object, fearing to break her accidentally.

His hand reached over, and separated the hand she was holding.

His fingers threaded through hers, interlocking their palms and fingers.

"Seraphina!"

The man’s kisses fell on her earlobe.

"Remember, everything I do for you tonight!"

Then, he didn’t speak, just slowly, kissed down her skin.

Using his kisses, he covered up those bruises, the scratch marks on her skin...

Seraphina distinctly felt his kisses were different from Adrian Chamberlain’s.

So gentle, so...

Alluring!

Feeling the man’s kisses move down, she instinctively curled up.

"Dirty!"

She heard his voice, he said.

"My Seraphina... the cleanest!"

The sound of rain outside gradually faded away.

She only heard the sound of blood pounding against her eardrums.

She completely forgot Adrian, forgot everything hours ago that made her feel miserable.

Only remembered.

His kisses.

His palm...

So gentle, so warm.

Even she was burning from his kisses.

...

Outside, the heavy rain gradually stopped.

Inside, Seraphina lay exhausted on the pillow and fell asleep.

Her fair cheeks still carried a hint of peculiar flush.

The girl’s brows and eyes were already relaxed, her entire being presenting a very comfortable state.

Ethan propped himself up, pulled the quilt over her.

Noticed the bruise on the back of her hand.

He lifted her palm and kissed it forcefully, leaving a kiss mark.

Satisfied with his work, Ethan bent down and kissed her forehead.

"Sleep well, when you wake up, it’ll be a new day!"

Straightening his shirt, he turned and walked out of the bedroom, picked up his phone and dialed Sean Hale.

"Call Felicity Shaw, have her wait in your room for me."

Sean was a bit puzzled, "What do you mean?"

"Doesn’t she like money?" Ethan narrowed his dark eyes, his gaze full of icy light, "Tell her, there’s a wealthy boss upstairs who appreciated her performance tonight, and if she’s willing to come up and play a piece, he’ll give her a million."

Felicity Shaw and Adrian Chamberlain were together solely for the money.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t help Adrian Chamberlain do such things.

To deal with such women, money is the simplest method.

If this affair really went to the legal route, Seraphina couldn’t bear it.

Ethan chose not to call the police for now, does not mean he’s letting Felicity Shaw and Adrian Chamberlain off the hook.

As Ethan expected, Felicity Shaw couldn’t resist the temptation.

Before coming upstairs with her violin, she even put on makeup deliberately. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Of course, Felicity Shaw knew the real meaning of "playing a piece", but she didn’t care.

A million!

That number is enough for her to sell herself, whether for body or talent.

She was unaware of what happened in Seraphina’s room.

She only heard the hotel had changed Claire Clayton’s room and hadn’t seen Seraphina.

Felicity Shaw naturally assumed Seraphina must have been taken away and tormented by Adrian Chamberlain and didn’t think much.

Walking to Sean Hale’s room door, she raised her hand and knocked.

"Is Mr. Hale there?"

The door opened, Sean Hale glanced at her, and stepped aside.

Sean Hale’s face seemed familiar to Felicity Shaw, but she hadn’t recognized who he was.

Sean Hale turned to close the door, she placed the violin aside and began to unbutton her jacket.

"Mr. Hale, what piece would you like to hear?"

Sean Hale stepped forward, raising his hand and delivering a harsh slap to her face.

Felicity Shaw was caught off guard, retreating several steps and falling onto the carpet in the living room.

She sat up in shock, then noticed there was another person in the room.

The person sat on the sofa, hands resting on knees, looking down at her.

His refined face, under the hotel lights, was dignified and cold.

She didn’t remember Sean Hale, but she recognized Ethan Sterling.

That face was too striking, anyone who’d seen it once couldn’t forget.

Seeing Ethan’s face, Felicity Shaw immediately guessed that their plan had failed.

Ethan’s identity, she’d heard gossip from the orchestra members.

Not to mention, the phrase "Sterling Family’s little devil" was enough to make Felicity Shaw shiver.

"It... It wasn’t me... It was Adrian Chamberlain... He forced me... He... He hit me, if I didn’t do it, he’d beat me to death..."

Realizing their plan was blown, Felicity Shaw attempted to shift all blame onto Adrian Chamberlain.

Seeing Ethan unmoved, Felicity Shaw climbed up, crawled to Ethan’s feet, and pulled up her sleeve to reveal her wounds.

"If you don’t believe, look... these... these are his beatings... Adrian Chamberlain is a creep, I... I was truly coerced!"

"Is that so?" Ethan bent down coldly meeting her gaze, "If he’s mistreating you like this, shouldn’t you take revenge on him?"

"I..." Felicity Shaw swallowed a gulp, "As long... as long as you let me go, I... I can... do anything for you!"

Ethan sneered, "Miss Shaw, you’re indeed a smart person!"
