Chapter 123: Chapter 123: The Troubles of Married People (Part 1)

Hearing the car horn, Seraphina turned her face, only to see the car window on the driver’s side slide down, revealing Ferris Caldwell’s smiling face.

"Dr. Caldwell, what a coincidence."

"Are you heading back to the city too?" Ferris Caldwell opened the passenger side door, "It’s hard to get a cab here, come on, I’ll give you a ride."

After thanking him, Seraphina sat in the passenger seat and fastened her seatbelt.

"You don’t work here, do you?"

"I..." Ferris Caldwell glanced at the rehabilitation center behind them, "I work part-time here, what about you?"

"My father is undergoing rehabilitation treatment here, I just brought him over today." Seraphina replied.

"I see. The environment here is quite nice, and the doctors are very professional. Your father will surely recover quickly."

The car moved forward, and Ferris Caldwell naturally asked about Mr. Thorne’s illness, to which Seraphina responded truthfully.

Listening to her description of Theodore Thorne’s condition, a hint of sympathy appeared in Ferris Caldwell’s eyes.

The two chatted along the way and unknowingly returned to the city.

"Where are you headed?" Ferris Caldwell asked.

"Just drop me off anywhere on the roadside," Seraphina said.

"How could I do that, I’ll drop you home, I’m free anyway."

"If you have time..." Seraphina checked the time, "how about... I treat you to a meal?"

Previously, on the plane, thanks to Ferris Caldwell’s help, she was safe and sound.

Originally, she had wanted to treat him to a meal abroad, but things got delayed because of Ethan Sterling’s incident, and Seraphina wanted to repay the favor soon.

"Then I won’t stand on ceremony."

Ferris Caldwell looked at the road ahead, drove past two streets, parked the car by the roadside, and nodded towards a common family-style restaurant beside them.

"How about this place?"

Seraphina looked past the car window at that ordinary little restaurant by the roadside and frowned slightly.

"Are you sure... you want to eat here?"

After all, she was the one paying.

He had helped her so much, she was embarrassed just to treat him to a roadside eatery.

Ferris Caldwell saw her concern and laughed as he opened the car door.

"Look at how many guests there are inside, obviously, the food must be good. Come on, let’s try it."

Since he insisted, Seraphina couldn’t say anything more.

The two of them walked into the restaurant together, found an empty table, and sat down.

Seraphina took the initiative to hand over the menu, and Ferris Caldwell stopped after just ordering three dishes.

Feeling bad, Seraphina picked a couple of expensive dishes from the menu and ordered more.

"Dr. Caldwell, would you like a drink?"

"I can’t drink as I’m driving," Ferris Caldwell raised his teacup, "tea is just fine."

"You don’t have to be so thrifty on my behalf," Seraphina glanced at the menu, "let’s add two bottles of juice too."

When the waitress went to place the order, Seraphina picked up the teapot and poured some tea for Ferris Caldwell.

"I’m really sorry, I originally planned to treat you to a meal before, but it kept getting delayed until now."

Ferris Caldwell shook his head, "It’s just a small matter, no need to worry about it."

Soon, the dishes were served.

Seraphina took the initiative to pour juice for him, and Ferris Caldwell raised his glass.

"Then I’ll use juice instead of wine to congratulate you on winning the world championship."

Seraphina clinked glasses with him, "Thank you."

The two of them ate and chatted, not leaving until nine o’clock.

Leaving the restaurant, Ferris Caldwell took the initiative to open the car door for her.

"Come on, I’ll take you home."

"No need, I can go back by myself."

"Why?" Ferris Caldwell laughed, "Afraid your husband will misunderstand?"

Seraphina laughed uneasily, "No, I... I have some other things to do."

Seeing her discomfort, Ferris Caldwell did not insist.

"Then I’ll take my leave first, call me if you need any help."

Waving her goodbye, Ferris Caldwell drove away.

Watching him leave, Seraphina hailed a taxi, instinctively giving the address of Sovereign Villa.

Lately, she’d gotten used to going back to Thorne Villa, unknowingly considering it her home.

It was only after speaking that she realized it was wrong.

"No, driver, please take me to Aethel Philharmonic instead!"

Since she had decided to get a divorce, she naturally couldn’t return to Thorne Villa, as it was Ethan Sterling’s house.

Staying at a hotel was too expensive, so she planned to spend the night at the orchestra, and find a small room to rent the next day.

The taxi stopped near the orchestra, and Seraphina paid the fare and got off.

Recently, everyone in the orchestra had been busy with the New Year concert, and the whole place was quiet.

Taking out her key, she opened the office door, fished out her toiletries from her suitcase, washed up simply at the water fountain, and returned to the office.

Setting her phone alarm, she placed her coat on the sofa, slipped off her shoes, curled up on the couch, and closed her eyes.

The next day, after finishing her tasks at the orchestra, Seraphina went to a nearby real estate agency.

Upon hearing that she was looking for a place, the agency’s staff kindly offered her a seat on the sofa and began introducing available properties.

In the adjacent office, Ivy Langley walked out with the agency’s manager.

Seeing Seraphina sitting on the sofa, she walked over with a puzzled look.

"Seraphina, what are you doing here?"

Before Seraphina could answer, the staff member serving her laughed.

"So, you’re a friend of Miss Langley, why didn’t you say so earlier, I’ll give you a 20% discount!"

Noticing something was amiss, Ivy Langley gave some instructions to the manager and walked Seraphina aside.

"What’s going on with you?"

"It’s nothing, I just wanted to look at some houses."

"Nothing?" Ivy Langley glanced her over, "I’ve known you since first grade, you think you can hide from me? Did you and Ethan Sterling... have a fight?"

Realizing she couldn’t keep it a secret, Seraphina decided to be honest.

"I... I want a divorce."

"A divorce?" Ivy Langley’s expression changed instantly, "Wait here a moment."

After briefly explaining to another client, Ivy Langley returned, taking Seraphina to a nearby fast food restaurant.

Ordering two meals and placing one in front of Seraphina, Ivy Langley frowned and spoke.

"What on earth happened?"

Taking a sip of juice, Seraphina briefly explained the situation.

When Ivy Langley heard about Ethan Sterling’s infidelity, she was furious.

"That bastard, and here I thought he was serious about you!"

"Let’s not talk about him, we weren’t really a normal couple anyway." Seraphina didn’t want to dwell on Ethan Sterling, and quickly changed the subject, "You know that agency manager, can you help me rent a cheaper place?"

Ivy Langley glanced at her expression and wrapped an arm around her shoulders.

"Seraphina, stay with me from today on, okay?"

"How can I do that? Don’t you live at home?"

"Who said I live at home? I have my own place now." Ivy Langley lifted her glass, lightly clinking it with hers, "It’s settled, I’ll help you move later! As for the divorce, don’t worry, I’ll be your acting lawyer now, I’ll go talk to Ethan Sterling for you. If he dares refuse, we’ll see him in court!"

Seraphina shook her head, "Ethan Sterling is now Zenith Group’s chairman, I don’t want to make a scene, it’d be best if we could divorce amicably."

Zenith Group had just gotten back on track, and Seraphina didn’t want their divorce to affect the company.

"Well..." Ivy Langley thought for a moment, frowning, "How about this, tonight I’ll draft a divorce agreement, and we’ll go find him to talk it over face to face."

The next day at noon, they brought the divorce agreement to Ethan Sterling’s company, but didn’t find him there.

The receptionist recognized Seraphina and was surprised upon hearing she was there to see Ethan Sterling.

"Mrs. Sterling, you didn’t know the president is on a business trip?"

Seraphina shook her head, "He didn’t tell me, do you know when he’ll be back?"

The receptionist shook her head, "I’m not sure about that."

Helplessly, Seraphina left with Ivy Langley.

As they reached the elevator, they coincidentally saw Sean Hale coming out.

"Mrs. Sterling, Miss Langley, what brings you here?"

"Of course we’re here to see President Sterling!" Ivy Langley snorted, "When will that bastard be back?"

"Well..." Sean Hale glanced at Seraphina, shaking his head lightly, "I’m not sure either."

"Why aren’t you sure either? You’re his assistant." Ivy Langley grabbed Sean Hale’s arm, "Tell me the truth, is Sterling out fooling around with women again?"

"President Sterling would never do such a thing."

"Never do such a thing?" Ivy Langley snorted with disdain, "A man like that, what wouldn’t he do?"

Ivy Langley pulled out a divorce agreement from her bag, slapping it into Sean Hale’s hand.

"Tell President Sterling to obediently sign the papers, or... he can lose everything in court!"
