Chapter 220: Haircut_Part 2

"Not always. It’s just that winter lasts longer than any season," he replied, putting his hands back on her hips, his fingers spreading to her backside. freeweɓnøvel~com

"Since we will be staying here, I was thinking that when the winter passes, I will make a garden in the small backyard, just like how we had vegetables planted in the backyard at the castle in Nightbrook. I was thinking we should have it here as well. It would save the maids from having to go to the market for things like that," she said, already looking forward to the future of their lives in this land. As they had been thrust into it by circumstances, she planned to make the best of everything and turn it into a home.

Rohan hummed in response. "You can do whatever you want," he muttered, hating that he couldn’t tell her that he did not plan for them to stay here forever or for that long. Once their child was born into this world and she had recovered from the labor, he would carry on with his plan to go to Nightbrook.

Belle beamed at his response. "I can do whatever I want. I like that. Then I want a small swing built for our child in the yard—like the one in the next house beside ours. When I was a little girl, I used to love the swing, but Mama was always against it, saying nobles don’t sit on swings and that a lady should be modest in the way she carries herself. I don’t want my son or daughter to go through that. I want them to play like children and enjoy themselves."

"Then I’ll build a swing for you as well, along with one for our child," Rohan said with quiet conviction, disliking how her parents had denied her the simple joys of childhood, just as his own had done to him.

Those two bastards who were her parents were also on his list of people he intended to teach a very good lesson in the future. He would never forget everything they had done to his woman—how they had pushed her into the lion’s den just to save their other daughter.

But then again, he couldn’t help but realize that they had both been deprived of a happy childhood. And though hers had been shaped by what happened years ago, because of him and those rogues, he would do everything in his power now to make it right.

That was exactly why he could not afford a life where he had to be cautious with spending when it came to her happiness. He had also strictly warned Rav never to tell her about the temporary financial strain they were under in this land. He would carry that burden alone and let her keep believing they had more than enough to stay afloat here without worries.

Not long after, Belle finished with his haircut and combed through the short strands with the little comb. Then she smoothed them with her hands, satisfied that she hadn’t messed up his hair and had instead made it look exactly as it once had when they first got married.

She began to step back to give him space to look into the mirror and admire her handiwork, but a sudden wave of dizziness and nausea washed over her. She slowly lowered herself onto his lap, as it was the only place close enough to sit before her legs gave way.

Rohan’s hands grabbed her shoulders as she sat on his lap, seemingly trying to catch her breath and clasping a hand to her mouth. "What’s wrong?" he asked worriedly.

"I feel like vomiting... and also slightly dizzy..." she mused, thinking perhaps it must be because she had been standing the whole time she was doing his hair. "Can I get that medicine again? My stomach is acting strange," she whispered through a small moan, clutching a hand to her belly.

Rohan cursed under his breath as he quickly carried her up from his lap and set her down on the stool he had been sitting on, then hurried out of the chamber to go and fix her the blood mix. He had planned to get a closed container and put the blood mix in it so she could sip it at all times after finishing his haircut, but he hadn’t known the pain would grip her again so soon.

He gritted his teeth, realizing the child was beginning to demand more doses of blood now that it had gotten the taste. There might come a time when she would have to take the blood without it being mixed, and he dreaded having to see her disgusted face while taking it.

"Little brat," he chided his unborn child under his breath as he grabbed the first maid his eyes fell on when he stepped out of their chamber and compelled her into following him into his study so he could draw the blood he needed.

Rohan did everything using his vampire speed. He grabbed the young woman’s wrist, and, extending his finger into a claw, he sliced through her skin without hesitation, bringing it over the bowl. Fresh blood dripped steadily into the medicine, and when it reached the level he wanted, he wiped her wrist with mechanical efficiency and let it fall back to her side, his expression cold and focused, like a man performing an experiment, not tending to a person.

"Forget everything that happened," he compelled her, his voice low and firm, before turning away and walking out of the study, dismissing the girl without another glance.

As Rohan hurried out of the study, still wearing only a cloth wrapped around his waist, the maid followed close behind, adjusting the button of her dress sleeve. Two female maids, who were walking down the hall in the opposite side after finishing the rooms Rav had assigned to them, witnessed the scene and stopped in their tracks, glancing at each other with wide eyes.

The master of the house emerging from his study in such a state of undress, followed by a disheveled-looking maid, it could only mean one thing.

"Oh my God, Dayna and the master," gasped one of the girls, a basket of laundry in her arms as she watched Rohan hurry back toward his chamber.

"I thought she said no man on earth could make her betray her love for Ben, who, from what I heard, fought with the master just to get his job back because he couldn’t part with her," said the other maid, her gaze now following Dayna, who was walking in the opposite direction, her head down.

"You must be jesting, Katie. Can’t you see how godly handsome the master is? Any woman would be swayed if he wanted to couple with them. Even I would give in to him if he asked me to please him for a day. I don’t blame Dayna for giving in. But Ben won’t take it well if he hears about this."

Ben Rufford had been in a relationship with Dayna since the day they had all been assigned to work here. Many had teased them, and everyone knew Ben planned to marry Dayna once he had saved enough money to start a life together. Dayna had always been loyal, but apparently, not loyal enough when it came to a man as breathtaking as their mistress’s husband.

"For a moment, when the master woke up from that strange sickness of his and started attending to his wife, worshipping her like a goddess, I truly thought he was the most romantic man alive. But it turns out, men will always be men. He left his wife to couple with the housemaid in the study. Che."
