Chapter 65: What do you want?

Her breathing was laboured, her slightly parted lips trembled, and her emerald eyes sparkled with tears. Sage looked into those hypnotic, ice blue, unreadable eyes with a lump in her throat.

She was at a loss for words. What was left to say? Why did his words cause her to feel as though a dream had come true? Sage felt uncertain. She was staring at a man who was neither typical nor an ordinary ice dragon. No matter how much better their relationship got, she still felt it was false. But was it?

Sage took a deep breath and closed her eyes to keep from seeing his face and eyes but the sensation of his touch was driving her insane. Her eyes shot open as his thumbs caressed her cheek in a way that seemed to be saying, "Please do not refuse."

"I do not want to start over." She seized his wrists and spoke with an unexpected air of assurance. "We should just continue from where we are."

"You are terrified," Cyrus hissed and moved his face away while maintaining a calm demeanour.

"If the man I believed to be my father can turn against me? Who are you to not turn on me? When you are going to kill me in the end, what good is starting over?" She yanked his hands away from her face as she asked angrily, her eyes turning fiery red. "Listen to yourself, Cyrus Dragos!" She screamed at him while he stood still and stared at her with a calm expression. "Our relationship has no future! You do desire a relationship, of course! I will admit it; I want a relationship too. However, since you married me for my fire core—also known as my life force—it cannot happen. I no longer desire to kill you because I do not have a compelling reason to do so..."

"You see some good in me?" Cyrus’ interrupted with a light scoff while rolling his eyes and Sage scowled angrily.

"You are pathetic!" Sage screamed furiously. "You are using me!" She screamed once more and large fire flames bursted from her hands. "I do not mind being your prey; I want to be devoured by you until I lose my mind! but I can not and will not tolerate being your pawn and being used by you!" She thundered and shot the flames at him, but he quickly appeared behind her, grabbed her shoulders, pushed her to the ground, and grabbed her hair as soon as she fell on her knees.

"Arrogance!" Cyrus growled through his teeth, his eyes transformed into blue slits, and a bright glow engulfed him and his panthers.

When the glow faded, Cyrus was in his dark state, and his panthers were white demon panthers with ice blue eyes.

Sage grunted as Cyrus tightened his grip on her hair. The snow beneath her hands was melting, turning into steam and she became enraged, attempting to stand, but Cyrus released her hair and grabbed her shoulders, pressing her down, before standing on his heels behind her.

"What do you want?" Cyrus hissed, his voice deeper and more menacing than usual.

Sage closed her eyes and swallowed. "I want to understand you." Sage exhaled. She knew he didn’t feel anything in his dark state and had no chance of winning if she fought him, but she meant what she said. "I do not want any more secrets, doubts, plans, or whatever..." Her voice trembled, and tears streamed down her cheeks. "I am tired," she groaned, frustrated.

Cyrus had a bored expression on his face. "Water works," He scoffed and was immediately engulfed by bright light, returning him to his normal state, as did his panthers.

The abrupt change in state caught him off guard. It was the quickest state change he had ever experienced. Worry appeared on his face as he heard Sage sniffing while she sobbed. Standing up, he released her shoulders and took her into his arms.

While she cried, her face buried in his chest, he returned to the mansion, his panthers trailing behind him, and when he entered, he went straight to the room and gently placed her on the bed.

"Enough, stop doing that." He told her, then walked to the door, glared at his panthers outside, and slammed the door hard.

Sage sat down and wiped her tears. "I want to be alone," she sniffed to Cyrus.

"Gibberish." Cyrus rolled his eyes and turned to face her.

"I thought you wouldn’t cry today," He said flatly as he walked over to the bed.

"You give me plenty of reasons to cry!" Sage snapped at him and snorted.

"True, I am going to kill you after all," he remarked, nodding unconcernedly before placing his hands on the bed, Sage in between, and his face close to hers. "Do you recall what I told you that day?" He hissed and grabbed her chin, but she slapped his hand away frowning, making him smile. "I told you I would make you yearn for me and then ruin you."

"You said that when you marked me... the mark of lust." Sage’s frown deepened.

Cyrus hummed and smiled faintly. "Unfortunately, plans have changed." Sage could see sadness in his eyes as he said this unexpectedly. "I really want us to start over." He continued in hushed tones.

Sage was stunned. She was expecting him to lash out and respond to everything she said, but he didn’t. "Why do you want to start over our relationship so badly?" She inquired, suspiciously.

Cyrus chewed his lower lip, placed his finger on the side of her brow, and trailed it down. Sage felt electrocuted and immediately felt a twitch between her legs.

"I want to be with you even on the day I kill you." Sage looked at Cyrus in disbelief as he said this.

"What?" She couldn’t believe he said that with so many emotions, and she couldn’t believe her heart fluttered.

"I am dead serious." Cyrus nodded, his eyes glinting with sincerity and the menace they usually possessed.

Sage smiled, cupped his face, and said, "Alright, let’s start over." Then she kissed him on the cheek. His face immediately broke into a bright smile that highlighted his dimples.
