Chapter 127: Fear

Despite the fact that there were so many people awake in the castle, the night was quiet.

The cold was getting colder by the minute, and the entire world, which was covered in snow, noticed that the temperature was strangely dropping.

Snow storms were harsh outside in vast empty areas, and there was a less harsh snow storm inside civilizations, but only the strong could survive it.

Cyrus, who was sleeping with Sage in his arms, bit his lower lip as he was uncomfortable.

His closed eyes squinted, his breathing was labored, and his grip on Sage tightened.

He let out a low, deep groan and bit his lower lip hard to keep his impending dark state at bay.

Sage gasped and opened her eyes to see Cyrus staring at her with darkened blue silt eyes as she felt his cold hand on her waist get colder.

Her gaze moved to his lips, where she saw blood slowly oozing out, and she swallowed hard, feeling her fear for Cyrus’ dark state blast through her.

His stare was cold, expressionless, and murderous, making her tremble slightly.

She didn’t blink, nor did he, and soon an odd tension lingered in the air, making her feel as if she were being suffocated.

The way he looked at her broke her heart, but she was terrified of him because he could kill her at any moment.

Sage closed her eyes and took a deep breath before opening them again to see Cyrus’ eyes closed and the blood on his lips gone, as well as any injury.

She was perplexed.

Was he sleeping?

She didn’t want to wake him up, and if she moved away from his grip, she would undoubtedly wake him up.

Her gaze was drawn to his hair. The lower part of his hair was completely black, and she saw the black part rise to cover a little white part of his hair.

Sage let out a long sigh. "I do not like being terrified of you." She muttered.

"Then do not be afraid of me." Cyrus’ eyes widened as he said this. They were in ice blue form. "Can you tell me what happened?" He inquired, noticing a glint of fear in her eyes.

"Nothing." She forced a grin.

Cyrus noticed something was wrong with her, and Sage was certain that he had not realized he had entered his dark state just moments before. There was no need to tell him because he didn’t hurt her or say anything.

"Fear consumes you; fear weakens you; fear despises happiness, victory, and anything positive." Cyrus abruptly stated.

"What?" Sage was perplexed.

"Fear is what my dark state enjoys." Cyrus smiled as he finished his sentence. "Fear consumes people, making them weak, and he desires the same for you. You should not be afraid of me, or you will become a weak prey."

Sage let out a long sigh. "Do not refer to me as prey." And lowered her gaze as she grumbled.

Cyrus hummed, closed his eyes, and drew Sage close. His hand moved up, and he smiled as he pushed the strands of her hair away from her face.

Sage looked at him, his hand returning to its normal cold temperature, and the cold in the room was being replaced by the warmth of the fire place.

The snowstorms stopped, and Cyrus’ eyes widened, peering into Sage’s as if searching for her soul.

His cold fingers caressed her cheek down to her chin, and he gently grabbed her chin while smiling.

"I have never felt as worried about you as I do about you, not even my mother." Sage’s eyes twinkled as Cyrus whispered soothingly.

"You have to be concerned about your mother, Cyrus." With a small giggle and a roll of the eyes, she teased.

"Sage!" He raises his voice, gripping her shoulder tightly, which caused her eyes to widen in shock as she looked at his fear-filled eyes, which caused her lips to part and quiver.

She blinked slowly, swallowing hard, and wondered what was wrong with him.

She had never seen him so terrified in her life, and nothing had happened to her; she was unharmed and safe.

"I do not like hearing your agonizing scream!" He gripped her shoulder once more, his eyes searching into her widened ones, and silence filled the room as she was completely taken aback.

Cyrus didn’t blink, terrified that she would vanish from his arms.

His chest tightened as he remembered her scream from earlier in the day. The Ioas flare was capable of killing fire mages who weren’t strong enough to absorb it, which meant Sage had a one hundred percent chance of dying.

It was the main reason he was furious with Katherine and was about to kill her for allowing Sage to experience the agony of being burned alive.

He didn’t want it to bother him, but it did to the point where he wanted to kill Katherine.

Sage’s eyes widened in shock and confusion despite her inability to comprehend Cyrus’ behavior.

What had happened?

He appeared terrified, as if he were looking at a monster, but he couldn’t be scared of anything. Could he, or couldn’t he?

Sage placed her hand on his chest, where she could feel his heartbeat, and Cyrus did not object.

Her eyes nearly burst out of her chest as she felt his heart beat extremely fast, which was far too fast for a dragon. She moved closer, placing her head on his chest, because it felt like it was about to burst out of his chest.

"What’s the matter with you?! Please calm down!" She had to yell.

Cyrus’ hand landed on her back, and he drew her close to him, pulling her up, laying on his back, and forcing her to lie on him, wrapping his arm around her body.

Sage looked at his face, still feeling his fast heartbeat. She sighed deeply and raised her head to see him looking calmer than before.

"Are you alright?" She inquired, concerned.

"Would you be sad if I kill the water mage?" Cyrus asked abruptly and Sage almost chokee on her breath.

"Yes!" She yelled.

"Are you certain?" Just to be sure, Cyrus inquired.

Sage squinted deeply. "I am certain."

She had no idea what was going on with him.

"Very well." Cyrus mumbled indignantly and closed his eyes.

Sage looked at him, completely perplexed. She sighed and planted a kiss on his lips, causing his eyes to widen slightly.

"You can tell me whatever is bothering you." She said it with a loving, confident smile.

Cyrus reciprocated the smile. "Nothing for now, my love; you should go to bed." Sage could swear he got goosebumps when he whispered.

She swallowed and leaned against his chest. "Alright," she murmured.

His heartbeat was strangely fastening, which worried her. Cyrus tapped her back when she wanted to raise her head.

"Sleep." He said with a low growl, while she groaned loudly, earning Cyrus a deep chuckle.
