Married To The Last Ice Dragon-Chapter 121: Married to danger
"You will pay for this! You wretched ice dragon!" Darren yelled at Cyrus, who was staring at him with a dully expression.
"Wouldn’t it be better to send him to the dungeon?" River asked, staring at Darren’s dead eyes, and shrugged in disgust. "Half living corpse."
Cyrus hummed, his arms crossed across his chest. "Parrot won’t like it." He said this, and Ashton burst out laughing.
"Why don’t you go after her if you care so much?" Stefan inquired arrogantly.
"She is dramatic, and it is not that she will kill herself if I do not go after her," Cyrus replied casually as he walked out of the dining room.
Gael rose and approached Darren, whose dead eyes were filled with rage. "When did you realize that you are a halfling?" He inquired, intrigued.
"It is none of your concern!" Darren yelled.
"Eish! That was quite harsh." Ashton shook his head and taunted.
Gael slowly nodded and turned to face Ashton. "I am sure he is not trying to hurt the queen," he said calmly.
"I also believe it is preferable to confine him in the dungeon." Mirabella grumbled, stood up, and exited the dining room.
Ashton moved closer to the halfling, grinning mischievously and flashing his threatening fangs at him. "You must go to sleep, dear halfling; believe me when I say I admire you." He chuckled deeply and whispered.
"You are always impressed by evil acts." River scoffed and rolled his eyes.
"Of course I am," Ashton laughed before punching Darren in the face, knocking him out completely.
"Really?" River asked in complete disbelief.
Ashton cheerfully rubbed his knuckles while staring at the unconscious halfling whose forehead was now oozing blood. "It was a light punch, do not overreact."
Gael had his jaw dropped in shock. "I am pretty sure he is in a coma." He then dashed over to Darren, holding his wrist and checking his pulse.
"Alive, but not likely to wake up anytime soon." Gael reported, releasing Darren’s wrist with a long sigh.
"Alright, enough of all this craziness, I am going to my room." River walked out of the dining room, clapping loudly.
"I, too," Gael said calmly, even though he was highly terrified of the demon, and dashed out of the dining room.
Ashton laughed and turned to see Stefan still seated, his gaze fixed on the unconscious Darren, whose head was oozing blood uncontrollably.
Ashton’s smile vanished in an instant.
He turned away from the halfling, then back to Stefan, wondering what was so appealing about Darren that Stefan was so intent on staring at him, lost in his thoughts.
"You carry him since you are staring at him so much." With a growl of displeasure, Ashton stormed out of the room, leaving Stefan in complete shock.
...
"I can not believe this!" Sage screamed angrily as she hurriedly walked through the hallway and out of the castle, frowning deeply.
She was standing in front of a carriage where Arthur was inspecting the horses with a smile on his face.
"Hello there," He waved at her and she returned a faint smile.
"How are you?" She asked slowly.
"Not too good," He replied honestly and returned his gaze to the horses.
"Me too." Sage muttered with a deep sigh.
She sighed deeply, crossing her arms across her chest, as her mind replayed everything that happened at the grand breakfast.
She scoffed in disbelief, dropping his arms.
"Halfling?" Sage was taken aback, unable to accept that Darren was half Statkus mage and half water mage.
He had been her friend for as long as she could remember, and they had even been in a relationship before, which meant they were extremely close.
He never told her.
She was deeply hurt, and she couldn’t blame Cyrus for keeping it from her because she wouldn’t believe it if it was told to her.
Darren was known to be an orphan, and he had never demonstrated the powers of a Statkus mage, nor did he look like a Statkus mage. But then again, he was a halfling.
"Sage!" Katherine’s voice could be heard calling from behind her.
Sage turned to face Katherine, who was running towards her, and hugged her tightly.
"What is going on?" Sage could feel Katherine trembling when she asked.
Sage closed her eyes and inhaled deeply while hugging Katherine.
She suddenly gasped in surprise when she realized Katherine was not supposed to know anything about the Statkus mages because their existence was kept secret.
Sage pulled away from the hug grabbing Katherine by her shoulders while Katherine looked as shocked as her.
"How did you learn about Statkus mages?" They asked each other in unison and exchanged long stares.
"It is.."
"As I ran away from River, I ran into a living corpse and..." Katherine came to a halt looking terrified, as if she had been traumatized.
Sage’s eyes widened with surprise and curiosity. "What?!" she exclaimed, shaking Katherine, but Katherine burst into tears and hugged her tight.
Sage couldn’t understand anything, but seeing Katherine, who rarely cried, cry at the moment revealed that something major had occurred.
Sage wanted to say something, but River burst out of the castle, staring directly at Sage, who was hugging a crying Katherine. His hazel gray eyes widened in concern, and he dashed towards them, yanking Katherine away from Sage.
"Please do not ask her any questions!" he raised his voice at her, his eyes immediately transformed into their gold reptile-like form and sharpened dangerously, causing her to gasp and remember Cyrus.
"W..what?" Sage asked, surprised.
"She will talk to you once she feels better till then, do not go close to her." River said with a threatening tone.
"I can make her feel better.. I.."
"I know you can but understand that you can not fix this one, fire mage." River spoke like he was holding a grudge and Sage didn’t know how to react as she didn’t know him like Cyrus did.
"You speak like I killed someone close to you when you are the one who destroyed my castle," Sage said with full displeasure.
"I apologize for that," River muttered.
"I want to speak to Katherine please." Sage pleaded.
River carried Katherine, who was still crying, back to the castle, completely ignoring her and rendering her speechless.
River looked at her as if he had apprehended an assassin who wanted to kill Katherine.
Arthur, who was standing behind her, laughed, drawing her attention to him.
"Do not worry, Sage; he is just protecting her." Sage nodded slightly as he spoke.
Her thoughts returned to Katherine, and her heart tightened as she imagined what had happened when she ran into the Statkus mages.
Had they harmed her?
Sage closed her eyes and took a deep breath, wrapping her arms around herself. "I must blame myself. I am putting everyone in danger." She muttered.
Arthur’s nervous laughter was heard by her. "But you are married to danger." His voice was barely above a whisper, and she gasped as she felt large hands land on her shoulders.
Her eyes widened as she noticed Arthur far away from the carriage, hiding behind one of the trees, and she smiled, placing her hands on the cold her hands that were on her shoulders.
"Calm down." Cyrus whispered soothingly, and she nodded.
