Married First, Loved Later : A Flash Marriage with My Ex's 'Uncle'-Chapter 390: Hunter’s Origins
Chapter 390: Hunter’s Origins
"Miss Nelson cares about me that much?"
Selina’s tone was laced with meaning. "Honestly, sometimes I wonder if Joe is really my father, or if Kyle is even my brother. I mean, we don’t look alike at all."
Riley’s hands clenched tightly, but she kept her smile.
"What are you saying? There’s no way that’s a mistake. Chairman Morris was just misled by Angelica before. You being the Morris heiress—that’s already been confirmed."
Selina blinked innocently. "So Miss Nelson wants me to be biologically related to the Morris Family?"
"I..." Riley’s throat tightened, but she quickly reined in her emotions and shook her head with a soft sigh.
"Chairman Morris... someone like that... of course I wouldn’t want you to have him as a father. But facts are facts. Even if you cut ties, the bloodline’s still there."
Selina raised an eyebrow. She didn’t know exactly why, but something about Riley’s words felt intentional—like she was trying to keep Selina tied to the Morris Family.
But why?
Before Selina could figure it out, Riley had already "sensibly" said, "Alright, we won’t keep bothering you. Selina, we’ll take our leave now—hanging up!"
She returned the phone to the manager, then left with Madam Nelson.
Selina stared at the disconnected call, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Miss Nelson is so thoughtful, isn’t she?"
Logan heard the mocking edge in her tone and let out a low chuckle.
"Mm. Very considerate."
Selina’s throat tightened. Wait—what did that mean? He didn’t actually fall for it... right?
Everyone said straight-laced men couldn’t see through manipulative women, that they’d actually find them sweet and kind.
Could Logan be one of those?
Logan glanced at her. "Relax. I’m not that dumb."
Selina’s eyes flicked playfully. "Oh? Then why do you think Miss Nelson showed up today?"
Why indeed?
Logan thought for a second, then nodded.
"Probably just wanted to make sure Hunter would hear everything she said today."
After all, everyone else in the Nelson Family openly looked down on Hunter—except for Riley, who always appeared so kind and steadfastly loyal to him.
Selina raised a brow. "It’s weird... I get the feeling her attitude toward Hunter is..."
Like she was acting.
Putting on a show for the world—Look how good I am to my brother. Even though we’re not related by blood, we’re closer than real siblings!
If Hunter turned out to be some long-lost heir from a mega-wealthy family, Riley could cash in on those twenty-plus years of "sibling love" and ride her way right into the upper ranks of high society.
Selina was startled by her own theory.
Just as she was about to share this wild guess with Logan, her phone rang.
It was Kyle.
Without hesitation, she hung up and blocked the number.
Logan spoke calmly.
"Master Morris probably feels guilty and remorseful. But he’s blaming everything on Joe, saying it’s because Chairman Morris didn’t believe him that he didn’t push harder to confirm your identity."
Selina: "..."
To be honest, she felt like the whole Morris Family had serious issues.
Joe acted refined and polite on the surface, but he was rigid and arrogant underneath.
Kyle, grown as he was, had accomplished nothing—and when problems came up, all he had to offer was guilt and self-pity.
Funny how Kyle was the same age as Hunter... yet the difference between them was night and day.
Same age...
She wondered what kind of family Hunter actually came from.
After wandering through Pear Blossom Estate and finishing lunch, Logan returned to his room to pack.
Selina raised an eyebrow. "Leaving already?"
She’d been hoping to stay a few more days.
Logan paused for a moment, his tone rich with meaning.
"Of course we can stay a few more days—but there might be a little trouble. I’m just worried Mrs. Reid won’t enjoy herself."
A little trouble... Meaning someone might show up?
There wasn’t likely to be another person as clueless and thick-skinned as Madam Nelson, so if someone else was bold enough to show up at Pear Blossom Estate right now...
Selina’s eyes lit up in sudden realization. "Amelia?"
Logan let out a mocking laugh.
"Anna’s death anniversary is coming up. The full inheritance will be made public soon. You think Amelia could resist?"
Sure enough, just as he finished speaking, Jack approached with a grim expression.
"Sir, Amelia has arrived—with Owen."
Logan gave a nod, calm as ever.
"Throw them out."
Then he turned to Selina, completely composed.
"Come on. Don’t let this ruin your mood."
"Logan!" a furious voice rang out.
Amelia stormed in, seething with rage. Given her status, the staff didn’t dare physically stop her—so the butler trailed behind anxiously, trying to contain the situation.
She’d just arrived when she heard Logan’s words: "Throw them out." Her face turned beet red with anger.
Anna had been dead for years, and she just now found out about Pear Blossom Estate? This massive, stunning estate—hogged entirely by Logan?
"Logan, have you forgotten who Pear Blossom Estate really belongs to? Owen is Anna’s sister’s biological son! And you—you shameless squatter—how dare you kick him out!"
Selina’s eyes went wide. She’d seen people twist the truth before, but Amelia? She was a master at it. Squatter? Really?
Owen added in with a snide tone, "Big Brother, I understand this is hard to accept, but the family’s already recognized me as Anna’s rightful heir. How could you possibly justify hoarding her estate all to yourself?"
Logan didn’t even bother lifting his eyelids.
"If Mrs. Perry has questions about the will, she should speak to a lawyer. Escort them out."
Amelia’s face flushed even deeper. She opened her mouth to snap back, but Selina beat her to it.
"Logan," Selina said sweetly, tugging at his sleeve, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Mrs. Perry does make a fair point. Maybe we should let them stay."
Logan arched a brow. What kind of scheme is Mrs. Reid cooking up this time?
Amelia, hearing Selina speak up on her behalf, assumed she was intimidated and instantly brightened. "Logan, you hear that?"
Selina spoke in a soft, gentle voice: "Even though Pear Blossom Estate belongs to you... even though Owen spent twenty-six years calling Mrs. Perry his mother... even though he’s never once called Miss Anna ’Mom’... even though he never once visited her grave..."
She took a deep breath and continued, "...the fact that he rushed over the moment he heard about the inheritance must mean something. With Miss Anna’s memorial coming up, I believe Young Master Owen would never do anything inappropriate. So... why not let him stay, right, Logan?"
Owen’s face turned beet red with every "even though." By the time Selina finished, he looked ready to faint from fury. "You—you—!"
Logan’s lips curled into a faint smile. "Let them stay, then. Jack, arrange rooms."
Selina nodded solemnly. "People say Miss Anna was driven to death by Mrs. Perry. But for Mrs. Perry to dare stay in the estate she left behind, right before her memorial—that must mean she has a clear conscience."
"After all," Selina added, voice sweet as sugar, "I’ve heard those who die unjustly don’t reincarnate. Their souls wander, and on the anniversary of their death... they seek out the one who wronged them."
As she spoke, she watched Amelia’s expression turn from fury to fear, and once she was satisfied, Selina suddenly leaned in and exhaled softly by Amelia’s ear.
"Don’t be scared, Mrs. Perry. Miss Anna’s ’son’ is right here with you. She won’t do anything to you~"
"Ah! Get away from me!" Amelia shrieked, her whole body breaking out in goosebumps. She stumbled back two steps—then fell flat to the floor with a loud thud.
