Married First, Loved Later : A Flash Marriage with My Ex's 'Uncle'-Chapter 352: The Clown Who Got Exposed
Chapter 352: The Clown Who Got Exposed
"What are you doing here?!"
Selina smiled sweetly. "If I weren’t here, where did you think I’d be, Mrs. Perry? Did you really think I couldn’t get into the inpatient ward?"
Amelia’s expression soured. "Who gave you permission to enter?!"
"Well," Selina said lightly, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear, "there was indeed a doctor at the door who said I didn’t belong here. Turns out Logan found out Dr. Butler had been bribed to keep me out. Makes sense, doesn’t it? Mrs. Perry, wouldn’t happen to be the one who paid him, would you?"
Amelia stiffened. "Y-you’re making things up!"
Angelica quickly jumped in, feigning innocence. "Aunt Amelia hasn’t left my side. She didn’t have time to bribe anyone. Selina, you must’ve misunderstood."
She sighed dramatically. "Selina, you really shouldn’t speak to an elder like this, even if you’re upset."
That gave Amelia just the boost she needed. She sneered, "Someone could learn a thing or two from Angelica about manners."
"That’s the record of the bribe Dr. Butler received," Logan said suddenly, holding up a piece of paper and glancing slowly at Amelia. His tone was calm, but cutting.
"Mrs. Perry, are you absolutely sure your name’s not on it?"
Amelia’s face turned ashen. "You—"
"I’m sorry, Logan," Angelica stepped forward, pretending to be magnanimous. "Aunt Amelia was only trying to protect me. She was worried Selina might do something to hurt my baby. It’s not her fault."
Angelica turned to Amelia with a gracious smile. "But I know Selina isn’t that kind of person. Aunt Amelia overreacted. Let me apologize on her behalf."
Amelia gave her a grateful look.
Selina scoffed quietly. Angelica’s attempts to win favor were clumsy but effective.
Still, despite her whole act, Angelica didn’t even get a glance from Logan.
He cut straight to the point. "Mrs. Perry, you said you know the truth about the explosion?"
Amelia snapped, annoyed. "Logan, you just got here and can’t even greet me properly? You’re not even going to ask how Angelica’s doing? She’s been waiting for you forever—do you even have a heart?"
Logan ignored her. "Was the explosion caused by someone cutting corners on materials?"
Amelia’s face twitched.
Logan continued, steady and cool. "I recall the production zone was managed by VP Taylor. So if someone skimped on materials, it must’ve been him?"
He studied her expression as he spoke, calm and in control. "If not Taylor... then it had to be Manager Wilson."
Amelia suddenly flared up, "Logan, are you deaf?!"
"Ah, so it was Wilson," Logan said, now certain. "As for the bribe to Dr. Butler, someone will be delivering that receipt to the Perry family shortly. Selina, let’s go."
Selina grinned, enjoying the show. "How’d you know it was Wilson?"
Logan replied smoothly, "Wilson’s someone Mrs. Perry planted close to me. I expected he’d pull something shady eventually."
Selina’s eyes twinkled. "But something this serious—a whole explosion—couldn’t have come from Mrs. Perry herself, right?"
Logan gave a faint, knowing smile. "Hard to say. If Wilson doesn’t confess, we’ll keep digging. I’m sure something else will come to light."
Amelia’s face contorted. She knew Logan was threatening her—plain and simple. Dr. Butler and Manager Wilson were her top assets, and Logan was eliminating them both in one go.
How could he be so ruthless?
Selina, satisfied, looped her arm through Logan’s. "Alright, let’s go. I’m tired."
Angelica’s eyes burned with fury as she stared at the two hands intertwined before her. Jealousy nearly spilled out of her.
Selina was absolutely shameless! Angelica was hospitalized—Logan should be at her side. Why did Selina have to wedge herself in?
Suddenly, Angelica clutched her chest, frowning dramatically. "Cough, cough... Aunt Amelia, my stomach..."
Amelia shrieked, "Angelica, what’s wrong?! Somebody call a doctor!"
Doctors rushed in one after another. After glancing at Amelia’s face, one of them hesitated, then said, "Miss Angelica is physically fine. It’s just emotional distress. She needs to be kept in a good mood."
"That’s right. Ideally, the child’s father should spend more time with her—emotional well-being is crucial during pregnancy."
Amelia turned immediately. "Logan, did you hear that? Angelica’s in this state and you won’t even stay to comfort her?!"
Selina gave a meaningful smile. "Logan, I’ve heard paternity tests can be done as early as seven weeks. Since we’re already at the hospital, how about getting it done now? That way Angelica can stop insisting this child is yours. Save everyone the trouble."
Logan’s tone was indifferent. "That’s fine."
Selina raised a brow, intrigued. "Now we’ll see if Angelica’s willing."
Angelica’s face turned pale. "Selina, don’t push it. I’m not feeling well, and you’re demanding a paternity test? What if something happens to my baby..."
"If you’re not feeling well, why aren’t you in the OB/GYN ward resting?"
Logan’s voice was calm and cold. "The 17th floor of the hospital is the Burn Unit. Miss Morris, as a pregnant woman, what are you doing in the Burn Unit? Burn specialists aren’t trained in obstetrics. If you’re uncomfortable under the care of unqualified doctors, how is that my wife’s fault?"
Selina nearly clapped right then and there.
"That actually makes a lot of sense. Strange, really—Angelica, maybe you can’t tell the difference between OB and burn departments, but Mrs. Perry can’t either?"
"How is it that burn specialists are suddenly treating pregnant women? Should we call Ethan and ask why his hospital is so sloppy?"
Logan nodded. "In a hospital, having a burn doctor act as an OB is a serious violation. If Ethan only fires them, he’s being generous."
Selina chimed in, "I’ve heard things like that are illegal. Who’d be reckless enough to risk their career like that?"
The doctors visibly panicked, jumping to their feet. "N-no! We’re OB/GYNs! We swear!"
"This... this was Mrs. Reid’s request to place Miss Morris on the 17th floor. We couldn’t stop it!"
"Oh, so it was Mrs. Perry’s doing." Selina smiled sweetly. "You both said I was being unreasonable—so who’s really the one being unreasonable?"
"Jaxon was injured. Logan’s investigating the explosion. And yet Angelica forced her way into the Burn Unit, expecting Logan to ’take care of her’? That’s nothing but trouble."
Jack let out a sharp laugh. "I don’t even know why Miss Morris insists on being at the hospital. The Reid estate has private doctors that are every bit as qualified, and with fewer people around, it’s a better place to recover."
"And yet, right when my brother’s lying unconscious from the explosion, Miss Morris shows up in grand fashion—not only that, she goes on Twitter detailing everything, making the world think Logan came to the hospital just for her. Gotta hand it to you, Miss Morris—well played."
