Married First, Loved Later : A Flash Marriage with My Ex's 'Uncle'-Chapter 351: The Necessity of Communication
Chapter 351: The Necessity of Communication
BH Hospital was massive, and after walking around for ages, Selina still hadn’t found the parking lot. Instead, she ended up lost in a garden.
It was late at night, with only a few dim streetlights flickering around. Frustrated, she sat down on a stone step and sulked.
The February night was bitterly cold. She’d left the house in a hurry and only thrown on a thin jacket. Now the wind cut straight through her, and she shivered.
But the thought of Logan sent another wave of frustration burning through her. She’d even bought him a gift—what was she thinking?
Selina kicked a stone on the ground hard, eyes stinging.
All these years, her focus had never changed. She wanted Angelica to be ruined, she wanted the truth from four years ago to come out. She’d endured assassination attempts, slander, and betrayal.
All of it had been far worse than tonight. So why was she feeling so crushed now? So irrationally upset?
Unable to answer her own question, she kicked another stone.
This time, it didn’t roll into the flowerbed like she expected. Instead, it hit a pair of polished, hand-stitched leather shoes.
Selina froze at the sight of those shoes. She looked up—then immediately got to her feet and turned to walk away, not saying a word.
Logan stepped forward, holding up the belt. "Is this a present from a certain someone?"
Selina said nothing, head down, barreling forward without looking.
She was headed straight toward the lake. Just before she stepped in, Logan pulled her into his arms, sighing softly. "It was my fault earlier. Want to tell me what happened with Dr. Butler?"
Selina’s lips pressed tight, her eyes burning with stubborn pride. "Don’t touch me!"
Her hair whipped in the wind, sticking to her cheeks. She looked like a small, defiant animal, trembling as it tried to protect itself.
Logan’s fingers gently brushed her eyelid. "If I made you cry, then Dr. Butler must’ve really crossed a line."
Selina finally snapped. "Didn’t you just apologize on my behalf? I don’t want to apologize to him! Give me back the gift!"
She grabbed the belt and yanked, but it wouldn’t budge. Her face flushed red with frustration. "Let go! You dug it out of the trash. Don’t you think it’s dirty?"
"So it really was a gift from you," Logan said, sitting down on a stone bench and pulling her firmly into his lap.
Selina stumbled and found herself locked in his embrace. Fuming, she snapped sarcastically, "Weren’t you supposed to be with Angelica? I’m sure you’re both exhausted. Why not get some rest?"
Logan’s eyes darkened, his voice rough. "Did Dr. Butler say that to you?"
In that moment, everything clicked.
He suddenly understood the full scope of Selina’s anger—Butler must have misled her. She must’ve believed Logan had been spending the night with Angelica.
And worse, she probably thought Dr. Butler had saved Angelica’s life.
"Dr. Butler said something, yes. But it’s not just that—everyone online knows."
Selina lifted her chin haughtily. "Dr. Butler said no one without an appointment could enter the ward, to protect Angelica’s rest. And Mr. Reid, conveniently, wasn’t answering his phone."
Not answering her calls?
Logan pulled out his phone, only to see it cracked, the screen dead. It must’ve been damaged during the explosion—no wonder he hadn’t received any of her calls.
Selina’s frustration flared again. She stood up with a sharp movement and tossed over her shoulder, "I’ve said what I needed to. Mr. Reid, do as you please. I’m going home—Logan!"
Logan stopped her with a calm but cutting statement:
"Mrs. Reid, you might be mistaken. The person in that hospital room wasn’t Angelica."
Selina let out a cold scoff.
Looking down at the little firecracker in his arms, Logan chuckled softly. "Dr. Butler is a burn specialist. Even if Angelica did come to the hospital, she’d be seeing an OB-GYN. The injured one was Jaxon—I only came to bring him in. I didn’t even know Angelica’s room was on the same floor."
Selina’s angry expression froze. "...Huh? Huh??"
Wait—what was he saying?
Just then, she noticed a bulletin board by the garden path with photos of honored physicians. Dr. Butler’s picture was right there, labeled under the Burn Department.
Her throat tightened.
Logan’s gaze turned serious. "There was a scheduled inspection at one of Reid Group’s production facilities today. A sudden explosion happened. Jaxon was hurt, so we rushed him to BH Hospital. Ethan told me Dr. Butler is one of the top specialists for burn trauma."
Selina: "..."
Selina: "?"
So the person in the hospital room earlier... was Jaxon?
And Dr. Butler and Logan were both coming from Jaxon’s room?
"But I’ll still look into why Dr. Butler misled you," Logan added in a low voice. "Angelica didn’t come alone—Amelia was with her. I’m guessing Dr. Butler got paid off. I’ll deal with him myself."
Selina’s face flushed, then turned pale. She couldn’t speak for a long while.
So she really misunderstood Logan. No wonder he looked so exhausted—his loyal teammate was lying injured in a hospital bed, and she had been throwing a tantrum.
She suddenly felt a little ashamed.
"Just make him apologize to me. No need to go that far..."
"He was treating my people but took money from Amelia. If I don’t take action, I won’t sleep easy. Don’t worry about it."
Then Logan paused, took her hand, and asked, "So, Mrs. Reid, are you done being mad?"
Selina turned her eyes away, too guilty to answer.
The frustration inside her had melted away. She let him lead her quietly, and before long, they were back near the ward.
Logan smirked slightly. She was easy to calm down—his little firecracker.
On the way back, they passed Dr. Butler. Logan casually said something to Ethan, who gave Butler a dark, chilling look. Moments later, Butler was on his knees, sobbing and begging for forgiveness.
Logan didn’t even look at him. "Dr. Butler and that nurse accepted over five million in bribes. They’re looking at several years behind bars."
Selina kept her head low and muttered a dry "oh."
After visiting Jaxon, Selina sat silently in the hospital room. Logan could tell something was off.
"Still upset?" he asked.
Selina shook her head instinctively. She wasn’t upset—at least, not exactly. But there was still a heavy feeling lodged in her chest, like she couldn’t breathe.
And with Jaxon still unconscious, Logan had bigger things to worry about than her emotions.
Honestly, Selina didn’t even understand what she was feeling or why.
Just as Logan was about to speak again, Jack came in looking grim. "Sir, Mrs. Perry is asking you to go to Angelica’s room. I told her you were resting, but she said she knows the real cause of the factory explosion."
Selina narrowed her eyes. She could tell this was important, so she pushed aside her irritation. "Logan—"
She didn’t expect him to take her hand and say, "Perfect timing. Come on, Mrs. Reid. Let’s go get some payback."
...
In Angelica’s hospital room...
Angelica had already woken up. She asked coyly, "Aunt Amelia, Logan must be exhausted. Jaxon’s not even awake yet. Is it really okay to ask him to visit me now?"
Amelia sneered, "He’s just a subordinate. What’s the big deal? You’re carrying Logan’s child. It’s his duty to visit you."
Selina had just arrived at the door—and that was all she needed to hear.
Without hesitation, she shoved the door wide open.
"Does anyone in here even know how to knock—" Amelia turned around, thinking Logan had arrived. But the moment she saw Selina instead, her words caught hard in her throat.
