Married First, Loved Later : A Flash Marriage with My Ex's 'Uncle'-Chapter 344: Not a Gentleman
Chapter 344: Not a Gentleman
Seeing that Amelia was too furious to speak, Selina suddenly smiled.
"Mrs. Perry, don’t be so upset. Every story has two sides. Look on the bright side—if you pretend the baby is Chairman Reid’s, at least your son won’t be labeled a cold-blooded scumbag. Doesn’t that feel a bit more comforting?"
Luke was stunned. He was completely in awe of Selina—he even felt like bowing to her.
"Think about it. Chairman Reid already has a few illegitimate children. Admitting this one’s his is better than having everyone say your son’s a heartless bastard, isn’t it?"
"You—!" Amelia shrieked. "Get out, get out!"
Selina blinked innocently. "Why are you so upset, Mrs. Perry? You didn’t seem like this when you told me to accept Logan’s ’love child’—"
"Miss Clark, quite the talker, aren’t you?"
Before Selina could finish, a deep male voice cut her off.
Her brows lifted as she turned, visibly annoyed.
"Daddy!" Angelica cried, rushing toward Joe. His face was grim, but his polished manners kept him from exploding on the spot. "Mr. Reid, we need to talk."
Logan’s eyes narrowed slightly. "I was just thinking the same."
Joe shot a glance at Daniel. "Chairman Reid, if you don’t mind, I’d like some privacy."
Selina, sensing the tension, quietly exited. Soon, only Joe and Logan remained in the room.
Joe took a deep breath. "Mr. Reid, I’ve heard of you for a long time. You’re a young man I greatly admire."
"Then let’s not waste time," Logan replied coolly. "What do you want?"
Joe gritted his teeth, clearly ashamed to say the words. But for Angelica’s sake, he pushed forward.
"I hope you’ll divorce Selina and marry Angelica. Mr. Reid, I know your power runs deep, but there may come a day when even you can’t protect her. If the Morris family turns against her, do you really think she’ll survive that?"
Logan’s gaze turned icy. "Is that a threat, Joe?"
"No, Mr. Reid, it’s not a threat. I’m just a father who wants happiness for his daughter..."
"I’ve heard," Logan interrupted coldly, "that back when Mrs. Morris had a fiancé, she wasn’t interested in you. Then her fiancé suddenly disappeared. I suppose you used the same tactics then too?"
Yes, Morris Family was the top family in City H—almost impossible to go against alone. It was easy for them to coerce people.
But why did Joe think that Selina would be threatened by him like Mrs. Morris’s fiancé was?
Joe’s face flushed. "That was a long time ago...! Anyway, Angelica loves you—you can’t just reject her!"
He had once fallen in love with Victoria at first sight. But she loved someone else. Yes, he’d used underhanded means and caused her pain. But in the end, she stayed with him willingly, didn’t she?
He knew he owed Victoria a lifetime of apologies. That’s why he couldn’t let their daughter suffer again.
Angelica was the last trace of Victoria in this world. Whatever she wanted, he had to help her get it.
With that thought, Joe steadied himself. "Angelica doesn’t mind that you’ve been married. I’ve arranged everything—she’ll be going back to Sapphire Valley Villa with you today."
Logan’s voice was casual, almost bored. "And what exactly is Morris Family doing? Sending your daughter to be a concubine? The monarchy is long dead, Chairman Morris."
That finally pushed Joe over the edge. "Logan! Angelica is your savior! You owe her your life! If you can’t repay that debt, then what’s wrong with marrying her? Doesn’t she deserve that much?!" fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
"Joe."
Logan’s tone went flat as he abruptly turned his head. "She’s really my savior?"
"You..."
"The girl who saved me four years ago never once asked for anything. But Angelica has brought it up again and again. I think... it’s time I re-investigated."
As he passed Joe, Logan suddenly said,
"So I suggest Chairman Morris conduct a thorough investigation. You already wronged Mrs. Morris once—if you’ve mistaken her daughter too, how are you going to face her after you die?"
With that, Logan turned and walked out.
Joe staggered slightly.
What... what did he mean?
He mistook his daughter?
No, no, Logan must be talking nonsense—just smearing Angelica to avoid marrying her!
Outside the room.
Logan gave a slight nod. "Let’s go. Home."
"All settled?" Selina asked curiously. "What did you talk about?"
"Nothing much. He wants me to marry Angelica," Logan said casually. "And I confirmed something—Joe might not be as righteous as we thought."
"What do you mean?"
Logan shared what he had found.
"He and Mrs. Morris weren’t engaged. She had a fiancé."
Selina drew a sharp breath. "So he forced her? That’s unexpected. I thought he respected her."
Joe always came off as gentlemanly, yet he used threats to steal someone’s fiancée? After that, her fiancé disappeared. But was he just missing... or dead? Hard to say.
Logan gave a cold laugh. "Which means, he’ll definitely threaten you for Angelica’s sake."
Selina didn’t flinch. "Is that so? Let him try."
Still, even if Joe’s methods were despicable, his love for his daughter was real—he was willing to risk his reputation for her.
Selina asked another question. "What about the baby?"
"I said let her give birth."
"Even if it’s not yours? You’re not worried Angelica and the Reids will use it to leverage you?"
Logan suddenly smiled. "Hmm, I am. Which is why I’ll need Mrs. Reid to protect me."
Selina instantly puffed out her chest and said seriously, "Don’t worry, Logan. No one protected you before, but from now on, you have me!"
Luke, who was secretly listening and getting stuffed with dog food: "..."
Serves you right, eavesdropping on a couple.
...
Morris Family.
Joe sent Angelica back to her room, then aimlessly walked into a room full of Victoria’s belongings.
He looked through them one by one, Logan’s words echoing in his mind.
"Joe, what are you looking at?" Grandma Morris appeared at the door.
Joe snapped out of it, his voice hoarse. "Mom... have you ever considered... what if Angelica... isn’t my daughter?"
Grandma Morris’s heart skipped. Had he figured it out?
But if they acknowledged Selina—that wretched girl—the Morris Family would never know peace!
She forced a stern face. "What nonsense are you saying? Angelica took a paternity test with you. Who else could be your daughter? Besides, I had her background checked myself. Are you saying I lied?"
"That’s not what I meant," Joe said painfully. "But Mom, I can’t accept being wrong. If I am... I’d rather follow Victoria to the grave."
"Wait—four years ago!" Joe suddenly remembered. "Didn’t we find out my daughter was in the eastern suburbs of City H? Was Angelica even there back then?"
Grandma Morris suppressed the fury in her eyes. "Of course she was. Look, these are the photos. Four years ago, Angelica was seen in the eastern suburbs—and she saved Logan. How could we have been wrong?"
Yes... how could they have been wrong...?
...
Sapphire Valley Villa.
"This scar’s faded a lot."
From Selina’s chest to her neck ran a long scar—from when she saved Ryan as a child. Ethan had been helping her treat it, and while it was healing, he’d just discovered something new.
"But... there’s something strange about it. Why are there two scars?"
Ethan had never looked too closely before due to propriety, but now that he was checking carefully, he realized the scar wasn’t one continuous line—it was actually two scars from different times, close enough in placement to seem like one.
One was from over a decade ago. The other...
Selina said calmly, "Oh, something happened four years ago."
"This is your definition of ’something’?!" Ethan exclaimed. "That second scar is so deep, your neck was nearly severed!"
Logan suddenly looked up, sharply.
