Marriage Alliance With The Lycan Monarch-Chapter 62: We’re Alike
Chapter 62: We’re Alike
"Whatever you humans call it. I want you to leave the monarch."
"I think there is some kind of misunderstanding here," I said, trying to hide my irritation. "The monarch married me to fulfill the other end of an alliance with the human kingdom. A matrimony made of that effect cannot be broken by something like a divorce."
Dia said nothing, eyeing me with a dark gaze, she leaned away and rested her back on the wrought iron chair, arms folded and a leg crossed.
"I thought that would work," she mumbled.
What in gods name?
"Who are you to make such an offer? I suggest hearing from the princess herself!"
"Why do you want the court?" she asked, suddenly ignoring my outburst. "Don’t answer me with that trick of yours."
At first, I wanted to tell her straightforwardly about my revenge on Sloane, but I found myself deviating from that. Not because I want to trick her or anything, just a mutual understanding.
"I understand the princess’s situation."
Dia scoffed. "What do you know, you’re just a lowlife peasant."
"The ways of power are not so different from the human empire," I said. "We’re both different species, but strangely we think the same way, especially the society and the norm."
"I find that hard to believe."
"I was born a bastard," I revealed. "The daughter of a whore they called me. My step sister tormented me with her tricks daily."
"I can see where you got it from, don’t you think that’s low, intimating such tricks?"
I smirked. "Such tricks are the only reason I survived the Dowager." I exhaled. "My stepmother, for a time, confined me just the way the Dowager does the princess."
Dia’s smile slowly faded, and her eyes softened. It oddly reminded me of Drevon.
"She tried to hide me from the world, unable to bear the sight or thought that her husband had brought home a baby from another woman. She was so delusional to the point that she claimed my father was seduced, trying to ignore the actual truth."
I leaned back on the wrought iron. "I don’t even know the truth myself," I said with wistful eyes. "All my life I’ve been fed that my mother was a whore who seduced the Archduke. "I know nothing of her or what she looks like, I never got to find out."
I veered my gaze to Dia, who watched me with a soft expression.
"The princess knows what her mother looks like. I say she’s lucky."
"Lucky?" Dia questioned. "You mean tossed aside like she’s nothing? You know nothing human."
"Yes, I don’t because I never had a mother. The one I had was my living nightmare." I leaned away from the iron. "And I genuinely know that whatever the reasons of the Dowager are, hiding her daughter isn’t right. But I do envy the princess because she has a mother who has such a reason to shield her child. Maybe I’m stupid for saying this."
"Your story won’t get you the court. I have no intention of sharing it with you or Sloane," She rose to her feet.
"I figured as much. I lost this battle when I had nothing to offer."
Dia narrowed her eyes at me but said nothing. She turned away from me and walked down the stairs, leaving me behind.
There goes my chance to gain power. It was a stupid attempt anyway.
I sighed, placing a hand on my cheek. Did a human like me seriously think this could work? I’m becoming delusional now. I grabbed a cookie and chewed on it.
Well...the efforts were needed at least, now I had to think of something else.
"Foolish," I mumbled to myself.
Why didn’t I just say I needed the court for revenge? Why did I have to open my heart to a girl like Dia?
I don’t know, maybe because the princess and I were alike. We were both tossed aside, me by my stepmother and her by her mother. But still, I was jealous that her mother was present in her life enough to do something like that.
Hopeless Eloise.
I rose to my feet and walked down the stairs to the aisle. I strode out of my garden, shutting the gate behind me.
I’m sure Lucan and Osha will be waiting for me. I had promised them I only needed a few hours of alone time with Dia, but it didn’t even get to that.
Seems like I have time to spare.
Something warm streamed down my nose, and I halted to check with my thumb. I found blood.
Suddenly, the feeling of faintness took over my body, my eyes spun for a moment, and I grasped the topiary for balance, trying to catch my breath.
Not now!
I knew I had strained my body too much, but I was hoping to get to the bed chambers before it gave up on me.
I’m alone, I can’t afford to pass out in the open. I swallowed hard and straightened my position. When I opened my eyes, I realized something had blocked the light like a shadow.
But I wasn’t under any shade.
I gulped, finding some courage to raise my gaze. How tall is this person? On par with Drevon’s height. The stranger was dressed not in uniform but in clothing that made me know whoever this was...was noble.
Drevon? ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
That was what I thought when I set my eyes on crimson eyes, but when I took a more detailed look, I realized I was wrong.
This man’s eyes were darker, like oxblood. His hair was shoulder-length, framing his face in a wild look; it was as if ink had been dropped on his head.
Suddenly, he clutched my chin in an iron hold, his hand so big it covered my entire mouth. My eyes went wide in a state of panic, the tip of my shoes scraping the pavement.
"You reek," He voiced in a deep voice, pulling me up so that I reached his eye level.
My legs were waggling from the loss of gravity. My heart was pounding painfully as the pain bit through me. It felt like my head would come off my shoulders.
"You’re human, aren’t you?" he asked. "I’ve never seen one."
Pure horror wriggled through me when a sinister grin spread on his lips.
"Never got to kill one, too."
