Chapter 203: Second round

A few weeks back, when he was training in the beast forest, he subconsciously used his energy to push back against a mana beast.

What Nathan did just now was quite similar, except that he used his sword to harness his mana, and also trailed it across Tyron’s body first.

Compared to his which occurred more as an instinct, Nathan had clearly trained on how to execute a technique like this, so it was a lot more pronounced.

’He didn’t use that against me during our spars though.’ Harry thought, with a weird expression on his face.

However, when he thought about it, it made sense. During their duels, Nathan hardly got the chance to close in on him, mostly due to the huge difference between their speed.

Their spars usually ended by Harry simply bombarding him with a large number of skills, or sending an energy-coated attack towards him, which was impossible for him to block.

In simple terms, Harry ’cheated’ to win most of their duels.

After a few minutes, the noise around the hall finally died down, and they proceeded unto the next match in the event.

[The next duel for today! Lance Hutton Vs Daniel Noel!!]

The commentator shouted, while the two participants gently walked towards the stage.

Unlike most of the matches that were held today, the participants of this one were a lot more balanced in power and talent.

They were both in the second mana core stage, Lance held a high grade fire affinity, while Daniel possessed a high grade water affinity.

Due to the nature of their affinities, they could be said to be polar opposites.

The fight was quite tough, with both of them exchanging and cancelling out each other spells.

The duel dragged on for a little while, however, Lance eventually knocked out Daniel by blasting him with a simple tier one spell.

Since Daniel was already very exhausted prior to that, the attack was the last straw for him, and he finally lost consciousness.

[We finally have our winner!! Lance Hutton!!]

With that, the commentator announced him as the winner of the fight, and Daniel was eliminated from the competition.

The next two fights also played out in a similar fashion, with the two Elementalists engaging in a tough fight with one another, before one finally emerged as the winner.

The only different one was the last match, which was the fight between one of the few rank three Elementalists in the academy, Henry Mack, and another Elementalist called Sebastian Charles.

Henry was an early stage three Elementalist, who possessed a high-grade wind affinity, and high grade water affinities.

With two high-grade affinities, his insane talent wasn’t too surprising.

His opponent wasn’t weak in any way, but his elemental power paled greatly when compared to the elite.

The bout was completely one-sided, with the elite student effortlessly knocking out his opponent through a rapid onslaught of attacks.

[And there we have our winner, the rank three elite! Henry Mack!]

The commentator’s voice boomed across the hall, and the crowd of students immediately started cheering loudly for him.

The huge yellow hologram floating above the stage suddenly flashed, displaying the names of those who qualified within the groups, excluding the ones who were in possession of a bye-card.

In the next stage of the event, the two students who qualified from each group, would then be matched together in another duel.

Since only one person could qualify from each group, this was done to eliminate even more students, until only one was left, who would finally advance unto the finals.

Group 1:

Brenda Autumn Vs Nathan Lane

Group 2:

Trent Morton Vs Lance Hutton

Group 3:

Harry Ainsworth Vs Kurt Nadal

Group 4:

Susan Grey Vs Kenol Rudolf

Group 5:

Sandra Peck Vs Henry Mack

Displayed on the large hologram, was the list of matches and fights to be held, and the audience cheered in excitement at the sight of some familiar names.

It was clear this round wouldn’t be as easy as the last. Even the number of stage two Elementalists remaining in the event had greatly thinned down, as most of them had been eliminated in the last round.

After a few minutes, the second round of the competition fully began.

[For the first fight in the second round, we have two outstanding students! Brenda Autumn Vs Nathan Lane!]

The commentator announced, causing the audience to erupt into a loud series of cheers and shouts.

Within a few minutes, the two participants stepped unto the stage, taking positions opposite each other.

[And since the two students are ready, let the match begin!]

The commentator’s voice rung across the stage, announcing the start of the fight.

"Lightning Dash!" Brenda shouted, swiftly casting a simple speed boost spell.

Blitz!!

Lightning sparked violently around her legs, before rapidly spreading to the rest of her body, and her speed rose to insane levels.

"Fire Blades!" She shouted, hurriedly conjuring ten thin blades burning with bright red flames.

Whoosh!!

Without wasting anytime, she launched the blades towards Nathan, sending them flying at rapid speeds.

Nathan tightly gripped the bastard sword in his hands, before charging straight towards the incoming fire blades.

With a series of swift swings, he easily deflected all the blades, rapidly closing in on Brenda.

Brenda’s brows furrowed into a deep frown when she saw how effortlessly her attacks were blocked, and she hurriedly started casting another spell.

"Flame Missiles!" She shouted, and almost instantly, six thin, long missiles made from fire appeared above her, before shooting towards Nathan at insane speed.

Swoosh!!

Nathan’s brows squeezed into a slight frown, as he stared at the large number of missiles rapidly descending on him from above.

He hurriedly pumped mana through his sword, causing it to take on a bright yellow glow.

This time, the mana aura coating the blade was a lot thicker, taking on the shape of a wavering flame around the sword.

Whoosh!!

Swoosh!!

Twoosh!!

With a series of swift and decisive slashes, he unleashed six long crescent slashes of mana towards the incoming missiles, each one flying through the air at great speed.

In a split second, the crescent aura blades collided with the missiles mid air, slicing each and every one of them into two.

The moment they were cut, the missiles rapidly crumbled into tiny red particles before vanishing into thin air.

Seeing as Nathan easily tore through her spell once more, Brenda’s expression twisted into a deep frown and she inwardly cursed in annoyance.

Hurriedly casting another spell, she stretched her hands towards the combat mage, before shouting: "Flame wall!"

Fwoosh!!

Fwoosh!!

In an instant, two massive walls of pure fire erupted on either side of Nathan, leaving only the middle path unobstructed.

Twoosh!

Suddenly, Brenda clapped her hands together, and the flame walls rapidly started closing in on Nathan from both sides, threatening to roast him into a crisp.

"Troublesome." Nathan mumbled, with a slight frown on his face. Sweat pooled around his forehead, as the fire burning all over the walls strongly heated up the air.

However, his lips suddenly curled into a slight smile and his eyes locked on Brenda who stood a few meters away from him.

Whoosh!

Bending his knees slightly, he rapidly harnessed mana into his legs, before swiftly dashing towards the Elementalist.

Utilizing small mana bursts from his feet, he kept propelling his body slightly forward, increasing his speed even further.

Fwoosh!!

Just as the pair of walls were about to fully close in on him, he suddenly bursted forward from the other end, unleashing a swift upward swing towards Brenda.

Boom!

The walls finally collided against each other, resulting in a powerful explosion of flames.

Following the explosion, Nathan’s blade slashed against Brenda, leaving a short gash on her belly.

"Arrg!" Brenda grunted in pain, as blood sprayed out of her wound, dyeing her clothes red.

A jolt of pain instantly coursed through her body, causing her to let out another scream of agony.

Even with [Lightning Dash] active, Nathan was just too fast for her to react to!

It was as if in one moment he was within the flame walls, and in the next, he suddenly appeared in front of her.

After landing that slash, Nathan didn’t plan on giving her even a moment of rest.

He twisted his body slightly to the side, before sending a powerful low kick towards her knee, like he did with Tyron.

However, Brenda reacted faster. She swiftly jumped up, with blue sparks of lightning dancing around her body.

The low kick missed her, hitting empty air instead.

Seeing that his attack missed, the combat mage lunged towards her again, following up with a swift thrust of his blade towards her shoulder joint.

Since Brenda was still in the air, there was no way she could change her momentum and escape the incoming attack.

During the fight, she had already made one fatal mistake, and that was letting Nathan get close to her.

However, that little mistake now threatened to be the reason she would be eliminated!

"Fire Skin!" She shouted, just as the tip of the sword was about to pierce through her right shoulder.

Fwoosh!!

Immediately, a thin layer of flames rapidly bloomed around her right shoulder.

It was about to spread to the rest of her body, when Nathan’s blade abruptly stabbed into her shoulders, cancelling the spell midway.

Fortunately for her, a dense layer of flame was already over her shoulder, which protected her from the attack.

Nonetheless, the sword still penetrated through the fire skin, lightly stabbing into her flesh.
