Magic Life in the Empire-Chapter 91: Siblings
Chapter 91 - Siblings
"What was that?" Asked Cyril.
"I am just training during nighttime to get that edge, you know? The professors rejected my transfer application again..." Edmund said while scratching his hair.
Cyril, still holding Tigris, shook his head. "You know what I mean; don't play dumb."
He was training true, but the way he was training was definitely something special.
"I am not playing dumb. Cyril, some people need to practice a lot more than you do. They have to sacrifice many things to get close to your level of talent, alright?" Edmund said in an unfriendly tone as he was going away.
"Wrong. Even if they sacrifice those things, they still won't be on your level," Rhamn arrogantly smiled, disregarding the somewhat tense atmosphere.
Cyril could tell Edmund wasn't genuine with these words; it was just an excuse to get out of here.
"For how long have we been friends, Ed? You know you can trust me," replied Cyril, standing in his path.
This caused Edmund to freeze in his footsteps, hesitation on his face.
"You have your secrets; let me have mine as well," he said in the end.
Finding his words reasonable, Cyril stood aside, letting his friend pass through.
"What a shame. However..." Rhamn stood by Cyril's side with an idea.
"We have that green wisp as a hint; we could investigate on our own."
Cyril thought about her proposal while petting Tigris in his arms. Now the tiger was really asleep, lazily turning around in his dreams.
No. I'll find out when it's time.
After waiting for a few minutes, he also left the park, finally going home.
"I am not sure if that was magic, to be honest. It didn't feel like it," Rhamn continued guessing with interest, though Cyril ignored her.
...
That night Cyril once again dreamed of that mound of flesh in a dark area.
At least it wasn't a nightmare; he awoke without any irregularities, feeling rested.
These didn't feel like dreams so much as visions.
However, Cyril and Rhamn were still clueless about what that was or what it implied.
He could only get up from his bed and get ready for today.
The lessons went by quietly, even if a bit awkwardly, after the events of yesterday.
When he got the chance, Cyril asked Myra when she was free to go visit Alvin. Who knows, maybe the pills were done already?
However, she replied somewhat vaguely to give her a bit of time. She looked rather absentminded today and didn't talk much.
Thinking Myra might still be recovering after whatever happened to her yesterday, Cyril didn't intrude.
Of course, if this continues, he will interfere. They still had a lot to do together.
...
On a positive note, fewer people stared at Cyril at the cafeteria; most were now concerned with the approaching celebration.
Hollowing was just around the corner; this year it fell on Friday of next week.
The Academy was yet to announce it, but there were rumors of a special event on that day, so people were excited.
So was Cyril. With Margaret back in the Academy, it could be something truly interesting.

When the last lesson of the day was done, he wanted to go straight to her to learn the illusion magic, as well as subtly ask about his mother.
Just as he was about to head out, Cyril's way was blocked by a figure shorter than him by a head.
Emily, Jack's sister, was standing in his path with her hands warily crossed, staring sharply at him.
"You promised to see me today, remember?" She said it quietly, but with conviction.
"You didn't promise anything. What is she on about?" Rhamn sneered at her brave front.
Actually, Cyril had forgotten about her completely. But now that she was here, he didn't mind hearing her out.
"Sure. Let's go to the park," Cyril motioned with his head to the outside.
Emily nodded in agreement and said, "Cedric, you are going too, right?" to the figure standing behind Cyril.
Cedric bravely walked to the front, his usual smile present. "If Cyril doesn't mind, then of course, I would be glad to help."
It seems Emily didn't feel that safe on her own. The thought was somewhat perplexing to Cyril.
"She is just a weakling. I wouldn't be surprised if she were afraid of her own shadow," tried to cheer him up, Rhamn.
...
Still, Cyril didn't mind Cedric being involved in this. In a group, they all went to the park, taking a seat in one of the park's gazebos.
"So, what is the conflict between you and your brother?" Asked Cyril with interest. Morpho and Tigris on his shoulders, listening attentively as well.
Emily placed her hands on the table, fidgeting with them while staring in the distance. "I wouldn't call it a conflict... I still don't know exactly what happened; that's the worst part."
"We are from the slums to the south of the Tower, orphans. Growing up, we did all we could to survive." She began a story while sitting on a clean marble gazebo bench.
"My brother was the most feared thief around, and I had plenty of talent. We were good at what we did and by no means lived poorly. But..." Her gaze became confused.
"One day, he just vanished, leaving nothing behind—not even a hint. My search turned up nothing, and I feared the worst: that he'd been caught on one of his jobs... until, in a tavern, a stranger described an assassination he'd once witnessed."
She began rhythmically tapping on the table. "The way he described the assailant, that was definitely my brother, how he fought, and what he said when he left. I just know it. He is out there, and I need to find him!"
Emily hit the table with her palm and stared at Cyril with hope in her eyes.
Cyril sat still for now with a hand on his chin, a contemplative expression on his face.
"I need to know what happened to him." She repeated with a bit less confidence, waiting for his following words.
"That is indeed a worthwhile goal. I will help you however I can!" Cut in Cedric with a moved expression.
He passionately said, "Maybe your brother was sought after by a criminal organization for his talents, and they threatened your life if he didn't comply!"
Emily's eyes shined hearing this, and she nodded up and down enthusiastically. "Yes, that would explain it! He was always a bit overprotective in the past; maybe that caught up with him."
Now they began excitedly making up a story of what probably happened. Jack was turning into a saint, word by word.
Cyril stared at their daydreaming somewhat helplessly. Actually, he too had a similar thought process before Cedric cut in, but now he won't admit to it.
What do you think? Could this be interesting?
"A little bit maybe. But I wouldn't bet on anything too exciting happening. Maybe some drama will happen when they meet, but that's about it." Rhamn shook her head.
"It's your choice, of course. If you think this might be fun, then let's go."
While he was considering this, Cedric and Emily had already talked about how they would have to battle the shadow organization keeping Jack in chains. It was quite a dramatic story.
Cyril coughed a few times to attract their attention.
Once the two turned to face him, he began speaking, "Jack told me to visit a place if I want to find him."
This successfully captured all of Emily's attention. She leaned closer, her eyes filled with anticipation.
"I can take you there." Cyril added while staring at her eyes. "When I have free time."
Emily looked happy at first but froze when he finished speaking.
"Can't you just tell me how to find him? I'll go on my own, no need to bother you," she carefully said.
Before Cyril could reply, Cedric cut in. "No, Cyril is right. We can't send you there alone. It's too dangerous."
He turned to Cyril and gave him an approving nod.
It wasn't really what Cyril meant. He only wanted to be there in person to observe the outcome for fun and see what happens.
But he won't expose himself, instead petting Tigris again with a solemn face.
