Mage Legend-Chapter 840 - 61:
Lynch said to Morgan, "Old friend, when you return this time, your people will surely hold a grand banquet to celebrate your achievements!"
"Hardly!" Morgan grasped his hands even tighter, whispering to the mage. ππ£πππππππΌππ²πΉ.ππ π
Desiring something requires sacrifices. Within this overarching principle, the entire meeting proceeded smoothly. No one voiced any pessimistic remarks or provocative wordsβwhich would only lead to isolation and downfall; nor did anyone expect others to unite without reciprocityβthat would be less reassuring than a mere trade contract. Haisas had Gold Coin and manpower, Ian could provide substantial supplies, the southern lords had many horses, and the elf and dwarf equipment remained magical.
Lynch, chin resting on his hand, was not very interested in the generals' discussions on how to resist the snake-men; those village rivers and the names of easily defended yet hard-to-conquer mountains meant little to him. The giant snake possessed a vast aerial force, able to bypass these map markers and attack anywhere, and only sufficient Griffin Cavalry and Elf Wind Steed Hunters could truly halt the enemy's momentum.
Yet even so, they could only block the snake-men, not the great snake itself. The Macken knight, possessed by the Light God, glanced at the large map of Anriel before leaving the excited generals and walking over to Lynch.
"I've been wondering, what exactly do you want?" Macken Knight said, "If you were to set out now, the great snake wouldn't live to see tomorrow's sunrise."
"That's not my style, and you wouldn't agree to that either," Lynch replied, "The only outcome of me killing the great snake is that I inherit its power. Those ancient gods absorbed by it cannot be resurrectedβbecause killing me would be many thousands of times harder than killing the great snake."
"Indeed, it seems after gaining Magic God ability, you've understood the rules," Macken Knight said, "What are your plans then?"
"I'm just a mage, so don't address me by other titles," Lynch replied, "After the god-slaying war, mages became unwelcome throughout the world, not unrelated to the surviving deities like you. If I resurrect the gods absorbed by the great snake, allowing them to regain the strength of followers, could that bring peace?"
"Can you do that?" Macken Knight asked, slightly surprised, "Are you willing to abandon the chance to further enhance your own strength?"
"I'm merely discarding burdens to purify myself," Lynch replied with a smile, "Yes, that's what I'll do. But I have the corresponding power, lacking the corresponding skill. When the time comes, I'll still need Pate's Hand of Healing."
"No matter what other temples choose to do, my followers always welcome kind and compassionate acts. This will make us friends."
"Friends? That's hard to say," Lynch shook his head, "I haven't forgotten how you once used Divine Power to intimidate me." Nevertheless, his eyes were filled with a smile, and he placed no real weight on the matter.
"So what you need is for all life in Anriel world to start welcoming mages again; for all those biases and exclusions to disappear? Why don't you use your own power to achieve this?" Macken Knight asked.
"I'm rather lazy, and the process of changing minds is inevitably very long and arduous," Lynch replied, patting Macken's shoulder, "I prefer to quietly study spells, so it's better to leave these matters to others."
"I accept your proposal," Macken Knight extended his hand, clasping Lynch's hand.
