Madness After the Apocalypse-Chapter 39: The Demon Awakens
Chapter 39 - The Demon Awakens
**The Female Demon Awakens**
Chu Peipei hurriedly dodged Wei Wenbin's attack.
She had no martial arts skills, but fortunately, Wei Wenbin was injured, his shoulder continuously bleeding, which limited the strength in his arm. Added to the fact that he was wielding a heavy hammer, she managed to avoid his blows with relative ease.
She couldn't help but wonder what was going on at Miss An's house. Despite the sounds of someone smashing the door, there had been no response. Was something wrong?
The thought made her face tighten, and she raised her bone saw, striking at Wei Wenbin with all her might.
Her strikes were wild, lacking any real technique, but fast and forceful, if not accurate. It was a style she had developed over the past two months of competing with others for supplies.
It was a rough method—what one might call "slashing away like a novice."
She swung the bone saw rapidly, her movements so quick that they seemed to leave afterimages.
Wei Wenbin stepped back, a hint of helplessness on his face.
He had never respected women fighting; their methods were usually clumsy and unrefined—either scratching like a kitten with their long nails or throwing weak punches that couldn't hurt a fly.
Unlike men, whose powerful punches could knock someone out with a single blow.
However, he had to admit that once a woman armed herself with a deadly weapon, her wild movements were still quite intimidating.
At this moment, he couldn't get close to Chu Peipei. He attempted to disarm her, but the bone saw was too long and she wielded it too skillfully.
If he dared to reach for it, she could easily sever his arm.
He had no choice but to wield the hammer, though it couldn't hit her, it was enough to block her advance.
The hammer clashed against the saw, sparking from the impact.
For a moment, both of them swung their weapons in a stalemate.
Chu Peipei could hear no sounds coming from inside the room and began to grow anxious. While fending off Wei Wenbin, she called inside:
"Miss An, are you alright?"
"Miss An, are you okay?"
Wei Wenbin saw her shouting out and feared that Miss An might actually wake up. In frustration, he swung the hammer with all his might, knocking the bone saw out of her hands.
Chu Peipei flinched, her hand going numb, and her weapon was sent flying.
Her heart sank. She quickly tried to retrieve it.
But Wei Wenbin wasn't going to give her the chance. He swung the hammer and aimed it at her head.
Chu Peipei was shocked, immediately trying to retreat, but in doing so, she missed her step and tumbled down the stairs, landing on the landing between the 14th and 13th floors.
Wei Wenbin sneered and prepared to approach her to finish the job.
Just then, the door behind him creaked open.
His heart skipped a beat, and he quickly turned to see.
...
An Nan had been awakened by the incessant banging on the door.
When Fu Gui saw its master leave, it hadn't paid much attention, thinking nothing of it—after all, its master was an invincible warrior in its eyes.
But when An Nan hadn't returned from the door in a while, and there was no sound from outside, Fu Gui's sharp nose detected that An Nan was close by—just outside apartment 1402. Yet, she hadn't moved.
Smart as it was, Fu Gui quickly realized that something might have happened to An Nan.
It frantically scratched at the door, desperate to help.
It scratched and howled, "Awooo awooo awooo!"
Meanwhile, An Nan, who had breathed in the sedative but hadn't inhaled much of it, had only partially succumbed to its effects. She slowly woke up to the sound of her dog's frantic calls.
She immediately heard Chu Peipei's shouting and, without taking a moment to comfort her dog, stood up.
Testing her balance, though a little dizzy, she knew she was more than capable of dealing with Wei Wenbin and Qian Ying'er.
She shook her head, then pulled out a gas mask from her storage space and placed it on her face, prepared for any more chemical attacks.
She pushed open the door, and saw Wei Wenbin, hammer raised, about to strike Chu Peipei.
Seeing An Nan emerge from the door, Wei Wenbin was instantly terrified.
The female demon had awakened!!
He no longer cared about Chu Peipei and, grabbing his hammer, fled down the stairs.
In his panic, he didn't even bother with the still-sitting Qian Ying'er, rushing home alone.
An Nan, still recovering, wasn't quick enough to stop him.
She watched as Wei Wenbin scrambled away, feeling both exasperated and amused.

This man was like a fish hiding in the sewers—using underhanded methods, but fleeing the moment he's faced head-on. Slippery and hard to catch!
Rolling her eyes, she strode down the stairs, helping Chu Peipei, who had collapsed on the landing.
Chu Peipei was exhausted, drenched in sweat and panting heavily, her arms covered in scrapes.
When she saw An Nan, she let out a sigh of relief. "Miss An, are you alright?"
"I'm fine," An Nan removed her mask, her brows furrowed as she looked at her. "You haven't fully recovered yet. Why are you out here?"
Chu Peipei gave a weak smile. "I'm fine. I went out to look for supplies. Found a lot of biscuits, thought I'd bring you some to try."
An Nan paused for a moment, then frowned disapprovingly. "You should be resting after a miscarriage. You need to be in bed. I don't need any of these."
Chu Peipei smiled bitterly. "There's no time to rest properly now. It's alright, my body is strong. It doesn't matter."
She then picked up the bag beside her. "I know you don't need food right now, but I still want to express my gratitude. I don't have much to offer, but I hope you don't mind."
An Nan looked at her, silently impressed. This woman was strong, both in body and will.
If it weren't for Chu Peipei holding Wei Wenbin off today, that coward might have taken the chance and barged in.
An Nan gave her a grateful look, accepted the gift, and said nothing more.
"Wait here for a moment. I have something for you," she said, then turned and walked upstairs.
Turning back, she saw Qian Ying'er sitting in front of her door.
The woman was staring at her with wide eyes, a vacant expression on her face.
An Nan was startled and immediately drew her knife, on alert.
But Qian Ying'er suddenly let out a silly laugh and raised her hand, pointing at her. "Hehehe, beautiful! Big beauty!"
...
An Nan was speechless: What on earth is this woman doing?
Qian Ying'er tilted her head, smiling as a small trickle of drool escaped from the corner of her mouth.
"Hehehe, beautiful! No one is as beautiful as me! I'm the most beautiful!" she said, dragging herself toward An Nan on all fours.
An Nan stared at her in disgust, then kicked her over, sending her sprawling to the ground. She turned to Chu Peipei, asking, "What's wrong with her?"
