Madam, Please Behave-Chapter 349: The Temptation of Going Home (Two)
Li Wanran still remembered.
Back in high school, even though Li Chongming had been a bit timid, a bit indecisive, he had always stepped forward to support her when she was at her lowest.
Back then, he was like a ray of light, illuminating her already darkened heart.
For the man she had longed for since youth…
She gave up her family, gave up her son and daughter, and chose the love she had dreamed of…
Only to end up like this…
Her gaze drifted briefly to the woman Li Chongming had just pushed away. She only spared her a glance before turning her focus once again…
Back to her husband standing in front of her.
Her hand gripping her purse was clenched tightly.
Li Wanran took a deep breath and forced herself to calm down, suppressing the rage that had flared from her earlier impulse.
In the blink of an eye—
She returned to her usual expressionless face.
Looking coldly at the man before her.
She said calmly:
“Let’s get a divorce.”
“No… Wanran, please, let me explain!”
The moment he heard her declaration, Li Chongming panicked. He ignored the stinging pain on his face and grabbed her hand.
There was a hint of pleading in his voice.
“Just this once, I swear it was just this once! I’ve never cheated on you before—I really love you! On our wedding day, I promised you that I’d love only you for the rest of my life… don’t you remember?”
“……”
“We even agreed… once my condition was cured, we’d go for IVF, and we’d have a child of our own too. Just give me a little more time. The doctor said I’m recovering, that soon I’ll be able to—”
“You think I’d let you fool me a second time?”
That sentence from Li Wanran shut him up completely.
Eyes wide, he stared at her cold expression as she said it.
Her emotionless face…
It was like she was looking at a stranger.
The hand he had used to grab hers suddenly lost all strength. One by one, his fingers loosened until he let go completely.
His head lowered slightly, and Li Chongming mumbled like a soulless shell.
“I didn’t…”
“I don’t want to hear any more unnecessary excuses. Tomorrow I’ll have someone bring over the divorce papers.”
Li Wanran cast one final glance at Chu Fang, who hadn’t said a word the entire time, then turned around and walked toward the door.
As she left, her last words landed word for word in both their ears:
“My money… don’t even think about getting a single cent.”
The air seemed to freeze.
Li Wanran left without the slightest room for negotiation, leaving behind a dazed Li Chongming standing at the kitchen doorway like a soulless ghost.
His head lowered… eyes wide open to the extreme, hands dangling helplessly at his sides like they no longer belonged to him.
Everything he had…
Was over.
Everything he had endured, everything he had fought for—all of it vanished in that single moment, completely wiped away.
Because of that one incident, Li Chongming had no room to negotiate at all. After the divorce, he wouldn’t get a single cent…
Not a single cent…
“Chongming…”
Chu Fang’s voice snapped him out of his daze. His stiff neck felt like it weighed a ton.
Slowly, he lifted his head.
He turned to look at Chu Fang, who had called out to him from behind…
Looking at her panicked face, the lifeless eyes in Li Chongming’s gaze began to show a trace of resentment.
Suddenly, he spun around and grabbed her shoulders, shaking her violently.
“This is all your fault! You ruined me, you ruined everything! My entire life is finished, everything I’ve worked for, everything I’ve endured for years… it’s all because of you!!”
“Chongming… don’t be like this!”
“Why did you come into my life? Why? Why?! Why!!!”
It was a mixture of impotent rage and blame-shifting.
All of Li Chongming’s inner resentment burst out at this woman who was barely in her twenties. Just moments ago, before Li Wanran arrived, he had still been so affectionate toward her.
But that mask…
Shattered in an instant.
A love without a foundation is like a pile of sand. It doesn’t need the wind—just a few steps and it scatters…
With his money gone, and all the hardship, all the humiliation he had endured for so long now wasted, what he had almost gained was suddenly lost in an instant.
That kind of gap… was unbearable.
Chu Fang’s face was filled with terror. As if frightened out of her mind, she let out a sharp scream while being shaken by Li Chongming.
Until—
She shouted out loud:
“I’m pregnant with your child!”
The shaking stopped. Li Chongming looked at her, eyes full of disbelief.
Like he couldn’t accept it, he opened his mouth several times but no words came out.
After several tries, he finally muttered in disbelief:
“You… you’re serious?”
“It’s true. I’m pregnant. It’s your child!”
She shouted it out, shook off Li Chongming’s hands from her shoulders, and ran out of the kitchen. From her bag, she pulled out a pregnancy test she had tampered with earlier.
She returned in front of Li Chongming, pushed away the strands of hair stuck to her cheek, and held out the test stick toward him.
Her voice was firm as she said:
“I was going to tell you tonight.”
“This…”
His hand trembled as he reached out, almost like he couldn’t believe it, and took the pregnancy test from her. He stared at the two lines on it…
Li Chongming had a medical condition.
From a medical standpoint, while there was a chance he could father a child, the odds were extremely low. During the long period he had been receiving treatment at the hospital, his condition had never shown real improvement.
He had thought he’d never be a father in this lifetime. But now, staring at the pregnancy test Chu Fang had given him—
For a moment…
His hand began to tremble.
His eyes moved away from the stick and looked at Chu Fang standing in front of him.
So much had happened in less than twenty minutes that he couldn’t fully process it all.
His legs gave out.
Like he couldn’t keep his balance, Li Chongming collapsed backward, his back slamming into the wall—but he felt no pain at all.
His mind held only one thought.
My child…
Chu Fang hurried over, reaching out to help him up from where he had slumped to the floor.
But she clearly didn’t have the strength to lift him.
