Chapter 414: Chapter 414 Do You Like Girls Instead?

Liam stopped the car and let out a slow breath.

The road ahead was quiet and wide, stretching into the grey morning, but his mind was still far away from here. Last night had not loosened its grip on him. Lilith’s arms around him. Her scent. The way her lips had found his without asking. Her body pressed close like she belonged there and always had. It clung to him in flashes that refused to fade no matter how hard he tried to focus.

Beside him Lana shifted in her seat, legs crossed, one boot resting lightly against the dashboard. She looked relaxed but alert, eyes scanning the open space ahead. They were heading to Russia together, following Irina’s call, and Liam already knew this trip would not be simple.

He glanced at his watch, brow lifting slightly. She was late.

Just as he opened his mouth to say something, the sound of footsteps reached them. Calm. Steady. Confident.

Liam looked ahead and saw Irina approaching, walking straight toward them like the ground itself made room for her. Five men followed behind her, all tall, broad, moving with the quiet weight of predators. Werewolves. There was no mistaking it.

Lana leaned forward, eyes narrowing with interest.

"Is that her?" she asked, voice low but curious.

Liam nodded.

"Yeah. That’s her. Irina Volkova. Alpha of the werewolves."

Lana stared for a second longer, then blurted out without thinking, "Holy shit."

Liam smiled to himself, already feeling a little smug. Finally, someone else seeing how ridiculous this was. A woman leading an entire pack.

"I thought you were joking when you said a woman was their leader," Lana added.

Liam felt a rush of satisfaction, already preparing a reply, but then Lana’s face changed. Her eyes lit up, almost glowing with admiration.

"She’s so freaking cool," Lana said, completely serious.

Liam’s smile died instantly.

He rolled his eyes. Of course. Absolutely of course.

Across from them Irina slowed her steps. Her attention had been on Liam at first, but the moment her eyes landed on Lana, something shifted. She stopped without realizing it, her men halting behind her.

This was not what she had expected.

When Liam said he was bringing someone with him, she assumed another fighter, maybe a hardened woman with scars and sharp eyes. Someone rough. Someone shaped by war.

Instead she saw Lana.

Lana stood out in a way that felt unfair. She wore high black boots that hugged her calves perfectly, the leather catching light with every small movement. Tight jeans clung to her hips and thighs like they had been designed for her body alone, showing strength and curves at the same time. A simple fitted shirt rested against her frame, stretched slightly over her chest, the fabric moving gently with her breathing.

But it wasn’t just the clothes.

Lana carried herself with easy confidence, shoulders relaxed, chin lifted just enough. Her long hair fell freely down her back, thick and smooth, framing a face that looked like heat itself. Her skin seemed warm even from a distance, glowing softly in the morning light. Her eyes were sharp and alive, green and intense, the kind that made people feel seen without meaning to.

Irina felt it in her chest before she understood it. This woman was dangerous in a different way. Not loud. Not aggressive. Just powerful by existing.

Beautiful was not enough to describe her.

Irina had seen many women in her life. Warriors. Leaders. Lovers. None of them stopped her like this.

Lana noticed Irina staring and straightened slightly, a small smile forming without any effort. Not forced. Not practiced. Just natural.

For a moment the world around them faded. The road. The men. Even Liam.

They finally stood face to face.

Liam nodded once, breaking the silence.

"Ready?"

Irina didn’t answer.

Her eyes were still on Lana, studying her openly now. The way she stood. The quiet strength in her posture. The confidence that didn’t need to announce itself.

Lana blinked, surprised, then laughed softly.

"Hi," she said.

That simple word hit Irina harder than she expected.

Before she could stop herself, the words slipped out of her mouth, honest and unfiltered.

"You are absolutely gorgeous."

Liam looked at Irina for a long moment, his eyes sharp and focused like he was trying to peel something apart. Then his brows pulled together and he spoke without any filter at all.

"So are you interested in girls instead of boys"

The words landed heavy.

Everyone froze.

Lana turned slowly toward him, eyes wide, mouth slightly open like she couldn’t believe what she just heard. One of Irina’s guards even shifted his weight awkwardly, clearly unsure if he was allowed to react or not.

Irina stopped admiring Lana.

She turned her head inch by inch until she was staring straight at Liam, disbelief flashing across her face before it twisted into pure offense.

"Fuck no"

The word came out sharp and loud.

"What kind of dumb head question is that" she snapped, eyes narrowing. "What exactly do you take me for"

Liam opened his mouth like he was about to explain himself, then thought better of it. Lana slapped his arm lightly but hard enough to send a clear message. He didn’t even look at her. He just rubbed the back of his neck, clearly realizing he might have stepped on something explosive.

Irina shook her head once, annoyed, then turned away from him completely.

"Just follow me" she said, already moving. "Both of you"

Without another word she stepped off the road and walked straight into a narrow path that cut through the open land. No car. No signal. Just her boots crunching lightly against gravel and dirt.

Liam frowned.

"She’s walking" he muttered.

Lana shot him a look. "You can fly and that’s what surprises you"

He had no comeback for that.

They followed anyway.

Irina walked in front with steady confidence, her five guards spreading out naturally behind and around them, alert but silent. Lana walked beside Irina without hesitation, falling into step easily, like this was the most natural thing in the world. Liam stayed a few paces behind, hands in his pockets, eyes sharp, senses open.

He couldn’t hear what they were saying clearly but he could tell they were talking. Every few seconds one of them glanced back at him. Sometimes Lana with an amused smile. Sometimes Irina with an unreadable expression.

It annoyed him more than he wanted to admit.

Ahead of him, Irina tilted her head slightly toward Lana.

"So tell me something" she said casually. "Who exactly is Liam to you"

Lana let out a soft laugh.

"A brother" Irina added, glancing back again. "Or something like that"

Lana laughed louder this time.

"Oh please" she said. "He’s my man"

Irina stopped mid step.

She turned fully toward Lana, eyes widening just a little. "Are you serious"

Lana nodded immediately, smile spreading across her face without any hint of doubt. "Very serious"

Irina studied her closely now, not just the words but the tone. The pride. The warmth. The certainty. Lana wasn’t claiming him for status or protection. She was saying it like a fact she was proud of.

"I didn’t expect that" Irina admitted. "At all"

Lana shrugged lightly. "Most people don’t"

Irina huffed a quiet laugh. "I mean I get it" she said after a moment. "He has the looks. The presence. That annoying confidence. But his attitude" she shook her head slowly. "It’s off the chart"

Lana smiled like she had heard that before. "Yeah it is"

Irina glanced back at Liam again, then returned her focus to Lana. "So how did someone like him bag someone like you"

Lana stopped walking just for a second, then continued, clearly amused.

"Actually" she said "I was the one who liked him first"

Irina blinked. "You’re joking"

"Nope"

Lana’s smile widened. "He caught me keeping pictures of him"

That stopped Irina completely.

She stared at Lana for a full two seconds before bursting into a short laugh she clearly hadn’t expected to come out of her own mouth.

"You’re serious"

"Dead serious"

Irina shook her head slowly. "That’s not what I expected at all"

"Seems to be a theme today" Lana replied lightly.

Irina exhaled, running a hand through her hair. She realized then that she had shown more expression in the last few minutes than she usually did in days. Normally she was cold. Controlled. Always watching, always guarding. But something about this situation, about Lana especially, kept pulling reactions out of her before she could stop them.

She glanced back at Liam again. He was walking quietly now, eyes forward, expression unreadable, like he was pretending not to listen while catching every word.

"Interesting man" Irina said softly. "Very interesting"
