Lunar Legacy: Rise Of The Beastlord-Chapter 65: Winter is Coming
Chapter 65: Winter is Coming
The night was quiet.. eerily so.
The sky above was draped in a blanket of stars, their silver glint filtered by a pale, indifferent moon. The city behind slumbered and unaware. But on the balcony of a quiet house on the outskirts, something hovered unnaturally in the still air.
A fist-sized rock floating on its own.
Jayden sat cross-legged on the railing, his silver hair dancing gently in the breeze. His eyes glowed faintly, brows knitted in concentration. The rock remained suspended mid-air without support, quivering slightly as if caught between two invisible forces.
And then.. with a quiet exhale, the rock dropped.
Clack.
Jayden leaned forward, elbows resting on his knees, and watched it hit the floor.
"Hm," he muttered, rolling his shoulder. "I didn’t feel any strain this time."
[I see] Luna’s voice chimed in through his mind, calm and clinical. [So is this your limit?]
Jayden shook his head slowly, a flicker of defiance crossing his face. "No. I think I can lift something heavier."
He rose to his feet and turned his gaze to the garden below. There, sitting half-sunken into the soil near the tree line, was a massive boulder, one easily the size of a dumpster, if not more.
His eyes narrowed and he stretched his hand forward for easier concentration.
Then... the boulder trembled.
The ground cracked beneath it. Pebbles danced around its base. Then, inch by inch, the boulder began to rise, dust rolling off its surface in clouds as it slowly ascended into the air. Jayden’s body tensed, every fiber of his mind funnelling into the single act of control.
Veins bulged faintly at his temple.
A thin sheen of sweat formed at his brow.
His outstretched hand began to shake. He brought up his second hand to help focus the lift.
The boulder kept moving up...
Higher.
Higher.
Till it rose to the level of the balcony. And then...
Thud!
It dropped, slamming into the earth with a deep, shuddering boom.
Jayden fell back onto the railing, chest heaving. He had finally found his limit.
After his talk with Jessica, after the truth came crashing down about the Winter Wolf’s vendetta. Jayden had made a decision: he wasn’t going to wait for the Alpha to come find him.
He would find her first.
But she had an advantage... her ice abilities.
So Jayden needed his own edge.
He’d spent the entire day refining his telekinetic ability, forcing himself to understand its limits and sharpen its focus. Lifting, dropping, pushing objects of various sizes—from tiny pebbles to hulking boulders. His body felt fine, but his mind was worn thin. Telekinesis didn’t drain stamina. It drained Will.
And that made it a more dangerous weapon.
He took one more deep breath, calming the tempest inside him.
[That rock weighed approximately 5000 kilograms] Luna said, her voice unreadable. [That’s impressive]
Jayden smirked between breaths. "Yeah... I’ll take that win." he said in satisfaction. Five thousand kilograms was equal to the size of a fully grown African elephant. He had also tested how far his telekinesis could reach... it was one hundred metres.
Jayden hopped from the balcony.
He landed in a crouch, his body absorbing the impact with supernatural grace. His fingers curled into fists, his eyes burning gold beneath the shadows of night.
"Alright," he muttered as he rose to full height. "Let’s hunt."
Without another word, he turned away from the quiet safety of home and slipped into the wilderness—into the forest beyond, where silence whispered of death and the cold wind carried the scent of snow and blood.
The Winter Wolf was out there.
And this time... he was ready.
Meanwhile...
Deep in the Frosted Forests of the city.
The Winter Wolf stood atop a ridge, her breath misting in the moonlight. Her fur bristled as she stared toward the city lights far in the distance. Beside her, bones littered the ground—fresh, bloodied.
AWOOOO!
Her howl pierced the air.
It was not sorrowful this time.
It was a summon.
From the darkness of the trees, shadows emerged. Eyes glowed in the blackness. Beasts of various ranks and sizes, all standing alongside the Winter wolf.
She knew Jayden was coming, so using her authority as the current strongest beast in the forest, she mobilized most of the other beasts to fight for her. And they had no choice but to adhere, or else she would just kill them herself.
And so, she created a new pack. One that won’t be a family, but rather an army. An army that would fight and die for her cause... or die by her claws.
The battleground was set, and Jayden didn’t even know what he was walking into. He had no idea he would be fighting more than just a single beast. He had no idea that...
War was coming.
And this time, it wouldn’t just be between man and beast...
It would be personal.
...
Jayden’s fist crashed into the ribcage of the lunging F-Rank Howler with a thunderous snap.
CRACK!
The beast’s body rocketed backward like a cannonball, slamming into a thick oak tree with a resounding boom. Splinters flew. Bark cracked. The tree groaned under the impact as the Howler slumped to the ground, twitching weakly.
Jayden stood still, his chest rising and falling slowly, calmly. The forest air was heavy around him, thick with tension and blood.
Four other Howler’s corpse lay around him—bodies mangled, eyes glassy. All F-Rank. All dead.
He hadn’t even taken ten steps into the woods before they attacked.
Five of them. All at once.
It was strange.
They hadn’t waited. Hadn’t even stalked him like predators normally would. No, they’d charged like they were sent... or drawn.
They knew he was coming. But how?
Jayden pushed the thought aside... the Howler he’d slammed into the tree groaned and rose on unsteady legs, eyes wild with defiance. Blood dripped from its mouth.
It bared its fangs and growled, charging him with a broken snarl.
But Jayden didn’t move.
He flicked his eyes to a jagged branch—a thick, splintered spear lying by a nearby stump.
Shlkk!
The branch zipped through the air, slicing forward like a bolt of divine judgment—straight through the Howler’s skull.
The beast dropped dead instantly.
A soft ping echoed in his ears,
[+20 Exp received]
[You have received 100 Exp in total]
[Exp: 400/350]
[Congratulations, you have leveled up]
Jayden smirked. "Nice."
But his celebration was cut short.
A low rumble trembled through the earth. The sound of claws—many claws—scraping across dry soil.
Jayden snapped to attention.
From the underbrush, four thick-bodied beasts charged forward—low to the ground, muscular, with armored hides as black as obsidian. Their snouts were elongated, their eyes gleamed like wet oil.
Jayden didn’t need to use his inspect to know what they were. He knew these creatures well.
Tremor Gators.
All E-Rank.
They were walking tanks. Their skin was resistant to blades, their jaws could crush a car door. They had no elemental powers... but they didn’t need them.
Jayden cracked his knuckles. "Oh.. I’ve longed for this day." he muttered, his lips curling into a grin.
Then.. the gators lunged at him. All four at once.
