Chapter 682: Forget About Everything, Let’s Go On Trip!

Mrs. Churchill took out a wax-sealed white envelope. The woman held out the letter to Ronan. Ronan then took it carefully. He opened the letter with the small dagger on his waist and read it on the spot.

"I plan to resign. After the incident, I have self-reflected. I have consciously neglected the duties that I should have carried out properly. I forget the value of the vision and mission that I should uphold as a school headmistress."

Ronan just let out a long sigh, while Mrs. Churchill kept talking non-stop. He immediately tore apart the woman’s resignation letter, making her look up again and see him handing over the torn letter to her.

"Your Majesty?"

"This is your last chance, Mrs. Churchill. I know you have a strong passion for academics. This will be a lesson for all of us not to underestimate the education of the future generation. I will give you a second chance and I hope that something like this won’t happen again in the future. If you have nothing else to say, I will leave."

Mrs. Churchill froze in place. Arielle also bid her goodbye to leave the place, but Mrs. Churchill remained silent in her place. When Ronan and Arielle were out of sight, Mrs. Churchill hugged the pieces of her resignation letter tightly while she was trying her best not to cry. When was the last time she cried? It was really hard to hold in her tears.

"Thank you, Your Majesty. I will keep your trust," replied Mrs. Churchill in a low voice. Obviously, Ronan and Arielle wouldn’t be able to hear it.

The next day, Arielle woke up earlier than Ronan. It seemed the man was really exhausted from his journey as well as his endless work. Arielle let her husband sleep longer and immediately headed towards Irene’s room after cleaning herself without the help of the maid.

She knocked on the door several times and opened it slowly. She could see Irene, who had woken up. The girl immediately lowered her head because her eyes were swollen now. Irene didn’t want Arielle to worry about her.

"Good morning," greeted Arielle brightly after closing the door to Irene’s room. She sat beside the girl and cupped her face with both hands. Irene gasped because Arielle held her face so tightly.

"Hm ... I knew it would end up swollen like this," Arielle said while touching Irene’s eyes, which were already very swollen and red.

"Arielle..."

"Sst... you don’t have to tell me if it will make you cry again. I’m sure crying all day like yesterday is more than enough. Now I will help you cool your eyes so they don’t swell like this."

Irene didn’t say much. She let Arielle help her clean her body. Irene said she could clean herself alone because she felt weird that a queen did the job of a maid. However, Arielle said that she was used to doing it. Old habits were hard to break.

Arielle gave time for Irene to clean her own body and prepared cold water that she had asked from a maid to reduce Irene’s swollen eyes. After wearing a thin underdress, Irene was called by Arielle to come closer and sat on the couch where she was sitting.

Arielle patted her thighs, telling Irene to sit on her lap. That way, it would be easier for her to cool Irene’s two eyes. Irene did as asked by Arielle. She placed her head on the queen’s lap.

Arielle smoothed Irene’s jet black hair so it wouldn’t get on the cold water. She took a small towel soaked in melted ice shavings and placed it gently over Irene’s eyes. The towel was not that big, so it didn’t get too wet.

While waiting for a few seconds, Arielle stroked Irene’s face gently.

"You already know, Arielle?" asked Irene as she tried to pull down the cold towel, but Arielle stopped her from taking it away.

"Hm-hm," Arielle answered soberly.

"Sorry," Irene said softly.

"Sorry? What are you apologizing for?" Arielle was confused why Irene apologized to her. As far as she knew, Irene was completely innocent, so why was the child apologizing?

"Because I failed to enter the academy. I can’t make you proud, Arielle. I only disappointed you and my brother by messing up the interview session."

"Irene... listen to me."

Arielle lifted the towel and dipped it again in the cold water, which had been added with lots of shaved ice. After squeezing the towel, she put it back on Irene’s eyes, which were still swollen a bit, but not as red as when the child woke up earlier.

"Your brother and I will always be proud of you. We appreciate your efforts. Sometimes the results can be disappointing, but an effort also needs to be appreciated. We both have seen with our own eyes how hard you have tried to do this. In just a little over a month, you almost got a perfect score."

"My score isn’t perfect. I failed on the essay," Irene cut in, making Arielle chuckle.

"Oh, how should I put it, huh? You don’t need to worry about that. After your brother did some research, it turned out that there were some incompetent people working at the academy, so they purposely made the admission test much more difficult than it should have been. They open up the chance for guardians or parents to pay them so their child could enter the academy."

"What does that mean?"

"Um... what I mean is, some people there have deliberately intervened in a certain student’s test so that the parents who really wanted their child to enter the academy would bribe them with some money. It is a corrupt practice, and your brother is dealing with it. You don’t have to worry about anything."

Irene just let out a long breath, making Arielle smile.

"Forget about the test and the academy. Now we’re going to have some fun. You haven’t forgotten that we are going to see the sea next week, have you?" Arielle asked excitedly. It made Irene stand up instantly.
