Chapter 117: Chapter 64: Past Events Like Clouds and Smoke_3
He said, "I grew up by her side. How could someone so kind-hearted and beautiful truly have the heart to abandon..."
He said, "Life is short, don’t be entangled by misunderstandings for a lifetime. In the end, people scatter, and hearts are broken."
...
On the highway, Fu Weiheng was focused on the road ahead when the phone on the center console suddenly buzzed twice in succession. He instinctively glanced at it, the interface showed a message from Qin Mu. Slowing the car, he opened the message and took a look—
16:38
Qin Mu: Brother-in-law, my sister went out!
Qin Mu: It’s been over an hour! She’s not back yet! What should I do?
16:55
Qin Mu: Brother-in-law! My sister’s back! She looks... lifeless?
Qin Mu: My sister locked herself in her room again!
Qin Mu: Brother-in-law! She seems to be crying!
...
Message after message left Fu Weiheng irritated. He tossed the phone onto the passenger seat and pressed harder on the accelerator.
Night had fallen, and the room with closed curtains was dim but not dark.
The phone on the bedside table buzzed incessantly, one time after another.
In a hazy sleep, Su Wan realized something, slowly opened her eyes with a frown, and only then did she realize she had cried herself to sleep without knowing it.
The phone was still persistently ringing, jolting Su Wan back to her senses. She picked up the phone without even checking the caller ID and pressed the answer button directly: "Hello..."
Her nasal tone startled even herself.
Fu Weiheng, who had called countless times and was about to give up and go upstairs to find her, suddenly felt somewhat disappointed when she answered.
Listening to the hoarse, muffled voice on the other end, his tone slightly tensed: "Were you crying?"
Su Wan turned on the bedroom light, squinted at the brightness for a moment, "Neil..."
"Why did you take so long to answer the phone?" he said in a steady voice, though there was no blame in his tone.
She rubbed her swollen eyes from crying, "I fell asleep..."
"Hmm." Fu Weiheng opened the car door, got out, and walked into the neighborhood, his voice gentle and calm: "Would you like to come down and see me?"
Su Wan doubted her ears, "Hmm?"
Fu Weiheng chuckled: "I’m downstairs at your house."
Su Wan froze for a second, then quickly got up from the bed: "I’ll come down now."
He said, "Take your time, there’s no rush."
Putting on her coat again, Su Wan left the room and went to the bathroom to wash her face. In the living room, Qin Mu and Mr. Qin were sitting on the sofa watching TV, Su Yue was in the kitchen preparing dinner, but Qin Yan was nowhere in sight.
Qin Mu heard the door open and immediately shifted his attention from the TV. Su Wan looked a bit haggard, her eyes were very swollen and red, she put on a down jacket, and was hurrying out, clearly intending to go out.
Qin Mu got up from the sofa and walked over, concerned: "Sister, are you going out?"
Su Wan smiled a little: "Yes."
Hearing the commotion, Su Yue came out of the kitchen, saw her distress, felt a little heartache, and went up to straighten her coat without asking much, only saying, "It’s cold outside, dress warmly, come back early."
Mr. Qin also smiled and said, "Be careful on the road."
Seeing a few gray hairs in her aunt’s black hair, Su Wan suddenly felt extremely guilty: "Aunt, I’m sorry to have worried you."
Su Yue patted her shoulder with a smile, not minding at all: "What silly thing to say, just be careful outside."
Qin Mu also nodded: "If it’s too late and you’re scared to come back, just call me and Qin Yan to pick you up."
"Okay."
It had been raining all day, but now it had stopped. The air was filled with the fresh scent of earth, and the temperature had dropped a bit.
Coming out of the elevator, Su Wan couldn’t wait to step outside quickly.
From a distance, she saw that familiar, handsome figure standing under the streetlight in the neighborhood, wearing a loose overcoat, tall and elegant, with a cigarette lit between his fingers.
Su Wan took two steps forward, breathing lightly, suddenly stopped, and on a whim, called out—
"Neil."
